    POE Switch Question

Then i would refer back my opening comment (particularly the part about the quality).... I come from a tech background and i mostly browse tech forums, so i was kind of surprised at the number of posts i see on here mentioning random, generic, no name branded switches being used by people...

    POE Switch Question

In the olden days maybe. :) Also in the olden days you needed to use a crossover cable to link two switches, but that hasn't been a requirement for several decades.

    POE Switch Question

Switch specs vary from manufacturer and model but generally speaking for any decent quality switch there's not normally anything special about uplink ports. They're just extra ports and you can link switches to each other using any of the ports on the switch. The exception really would be if...

    Ubiquiti Networks Cloud Gateway Ultra

I found some internal photos if anyone is interested. Ubiquiti - Album on Imgur That large heatsink explains the weightiness. Also, found a magnetic mounting plate for it. https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/cloud-gateways-compact/collections/pro-store-floating-mount/products/uacc-fm-17cm

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

I was literally just checking that out. :) The $599 price comes loaded with 512gb storage. Still seems excessive. But tech items tend to cost more in Australia anyway. It's the Australia tax. EDIT: and that retailer is one of the better ones for competitive pricing. Not many places around...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Not where i live. It's a AUD$400 difference. AUD$199 for the ultra and AUD$599 for the max. Now i don't know if that's just the ultra being at a really good intro price or what, but it's the main reason i didn't get a max in the first place.

N Not the cloud gateway ultra I just purchased though. However it is supported on the cloud gateway max.

Four cameras, two locations, one NVR

Is the TP-Link running as a router or is it in bridge mode? If it's running as a router you're gonna have a tricky time getting the NVR to see the cameras because they will be on a different subnet.

Redlight cameras !!! New tech being installed, vs old tech

Many of the red light cameras where I live are also speed cameras. So if you speed up to beat the lights and go through a red you'll not only get a fine for the red light you'll get pinged for speeding too.

Four cameras, two locations, one NVR

Meraki is good like that too but a bit more enterprise and thus cost. At work we manage about 40 sites all connected via site to site VPN containing routers, switches, APs and cameras all from the one portal.

Four cameras, two locations, one NVR

It's worth mentioning that the unifi cloud gateway mentioned in the below thread supports site to site vpn (they call it site magic) with what is essentially simple click and connect configuration. https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/ubiquiti-networks-cloud-gateway-ultra.78028/ I bought one of them...

    Internet to my detatched shop

You can get outdoor rated pre terminated fibre optic cable that has water blocking yarn which is a shit load less messy than gel filled stuff. You also need to keep in mind that fibre optic runs have bend radius requirements that can differ to copped cable runs. It might be a straight run...

Normally not as long as you keep the ends out of it.

    Internet to my detatched shop

Yeah well maybe, maybe not. you're sticking that stuff in the ground so you should use the appropriate cable. You should be using gel filled direct bury cable because even though it will be in a conduit it will almost certainly end up with water in it. Fibre typically has no such problem.

yes you would but you would be able to use regular non SFP switches and media convertors.

    Internet to my detatched shop

Yeah unless you just run copper instead in which case you just need a normal Poe switch for your cameras and your AP can plug in directly as well.

I don't think so. But thats exactly what you do with a vlan. Except it's a logical separation rather than a physical one.
