    ZyXEL GS1200-5HP Quick Notes

FenderJason recommended this a while back and to his credit, it was indeed a good find. So I decided to test it out. Amazon sells it for $60. Light weight and not a very deep chassis For a little basic 4 PoE setup, the main emphasis will likely be on remotely bumping ports. At first it's...

Yeah I'm one of those guys who still likes direct IP and controlled data so cloud services are completely out for me. My thermostat is even under my own web control and denies any WAN in/out activity. :) That said, it certainly does make life easy having those options available. I'd for sure...

I can think of a few long ways to write this, but am curious if you grabbed this graphing/logging from a software distribution or packaged Pi img? It looks fairly intuitive and easy to work with so I have to ask :-D Also did you buy a specific sensor tailored to solar measurements for the Pi or...

    NVR display for offsite location

PM me for any specific questions, but if it's a stock install the first thing you'd want to do is disable hibernation, sys restore, file sync, pagefile, run that update I was referring to, etc -- There's like 10GB easily. :-) I do share that suspicion that Windows compresses things based on...

    NVR display for offsite location

No need This was taken a few minutes ago on one of the 16GB hard drives. You can see the recovery partition steals like half of it. Doesn't matter. I outfitted these with W8.1 Pro. I still have Office 2010 (Word, Excel, Outlook), Chrome, etc but its primary role is a thin client. Works...

    NVR display for offsite location

Yeah sorry those users on Google have either some odd behavior occurring, or aren't calculating properly. If any w7 install of mine went past 10GB I would freak out. Honestly, I've rarely ever seen it climb to 10 after updates and before I start to add custom applications to it. I can spin up...

    NVR display for offsite location

I deployed about a hundred Win8.1 term PCs with 16GB SSD -- after all updates applied, still had 5GB usable even after several GB used for recovery/factory image. My Win10 experience with these things is exactly similar. I've never come across an issue where 32GB is an issue after or before...

    NVR display for offsite location

As someone who loves Raspberry Pi and other low tech devices, I'd say skip it for your sanity. If you are putting this in a client's network, the last thing you want to deal with is tinkering and wasting time on debugging etc. Don't get me wrong, you can program them to be pretty rock solid...

I do have that issue from time to time in my garage which is lit by LED. The headlights in my car are LED based and freak out as well depending on what speeds the cameras hit during the day. The faster the shutter speed (very sunny day), the more flicker occurs.

60Hz gets you to 30fps btw. Also, and personal preference, I usually get rid of that default smoothing feature. When you went under 1/150sec was the ball tracking not ideal? 60 I can imagine not being good, but was 120 also unusable?

    NRV for Cold, Remote Environment

Yeah the heat is my grudge with that cabin so I never wanted to insulate any of the components just because it may be a half year until I make it out there. I put temp sensors in a few places to monitor that but found in the summer the inside never really gets hotter than 75-80 and so I am a...

    NRV for Cold, Remote Environment

First year or two I just used a dell e6420 laptop. Runs 4x 2mp cams. I used a 5,400 RPM HDD for OS and a 128GB flash drive in the walls for storage. Worked beautifully. This is about a 7 hour drive for me if something goes wrong, but nothing ever has (with exception of lightning hitting one...

My cabin gets to -30F outside, -10F inside in the winter and BI and associated hardware runs fine. Nothing special or unique about the equipment.

    Long Range Video Surveillance

If you're looking to place the cam up the road a bit (Or supply power from the house a few hundred feet) you can just extend Ethernet and power to the cam using these things: https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Gigabit-PoE-Repeater-TPE-E100/dp/B00SDFFZZY?th=1 I've only tested these with IR and PTZ...

You mentioned line of sight -- Do you have it? If not, you can get closer to that goal by moving the wifi bridge (on either side, or both) to an ideal position. You're limited to about 300ft on each side (without repeaters/amplifiers/etc) so in your setup is that possible to get line of sight...

Comcast (Xfinity) will activate 1 Terabyte data limit plan beginning November 1st

I don't recall saying they owe me anything. Just saying there's no data to support the need for data caps. You're allowed to have an opinion without implying that you're owed something. The two aren't mutually exclusive as you keep suggesting :-)

Comcast (Xfinity) will activate 1 Terabyte data limit plan beginning November 1st

There's a reason to cap water or electricity usage in a town. Legitimate reasons. I have yet to find one reason for capping a cable Internet connection other than for [obviously] ancillary profit and possibly a spiteful reaction to everyone throwing away their cable TV boxes. If anyone says...

$5 Thrift Store Find: Axis 200+

Nice to glance back at the roots every now and again. This was one of the world's first network cameras as we see them today. The world's first IP camera was the Axis 200 model, released in 1996. This is a variant of that model. Their documentation says this was the first, but it's either...

Turkeys Got an email alert earlier this morning from one of my places -- this is a 4G based setup since I can't get any other Internet out there. Cam is one of those ESC 2MP bullets. Bonus: This is one I took earlier in the year from the phone. Just keeps on going haha :)

They will think about it for a second and then proceed to implement data caps now that it is rolled out in a ton of cities without much fallout. I bought one of those oculus rifts a while back and haven't really used it much past the demo and fun toys. I stuck a Leap sensor on the front and it...

Small camera display project, looking for ideas/advice

The only thing I forgot would be a quick CSS script (Because I'm lazy like that) to remove the scroll if it appears. I may have done that to mine. Either way, it survives nuclear fallout based on how simple the code is. I do have it iFramed and set up with smart control buttons to open the...

To be honest, you don't need any of that stuff... Run even leaner than any of this stuff BP is offering or anyone else. It's not that hard: New HTML page -- stick it right in the BI www folder or if you have another web server in the house somewhere it can work there too. <html> <head>...

Small camera display project, looking for ideas/advice

:) yay! But yeah that gap there is due to BI's handling of an odd number of cameras or cams that have different ratios etc. You could always fill the third one with a fake cam that displays info. Some people around here do that kinda thing. They add a "1080p" cam (Solid color 1900x1080 JPG...
