Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Looks like I was wrong regarding rj45 and fiber.I know jack about fiber and thought rj45 was used. Now that I know how fiber is done, I suspect I should hire a pro for putting on the terminals. For Cat5 or 6 I have no doubt I could do it even tho I never have. That said...the company that will...

LOL don't even talk about shedding. I have to vacuum daily. But both are restricted to just down stairs which is just hardwood and tile floors. I'd be rich if there was a market for dog hair.

That pup was #5 and doubt he'll be my last. I had wanted to raise 2 together for the last decade or so. But working kept me from getting the 2nd. Now that I'm retired, I can spend 24/7 with them. Words can't describe how I feel raising 2 together. Life is good! I'm sure you know what I mean.

Never got the covid vax and never will. I don't even trust the flu vax anymore. Last one I got was pre-covid. Last spring I came down with something that might have been covid, but never lost my taste/smell. Didn't go to the Dr, just stuck it out at home, sick as a dog. Took ivermectin...

Appreciate it tho, so thanks for the input. I was not even aware of an IR extender or illuminator. I'll remember it for sure

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

I didn't see the longer range. Just looked again and only found 100' on that link unless I overlooked it. But how much would it really give me using these Nest cams. No sense in spending money for minimal gain. For now I just want to know if its a vehicle triggering the alarm.

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Damn, that sux...just looked at the Blaster and its only rated for 85'. The apron is 600' away, not that I'd expect any kind of detail from night vision with these Nests. This is what this thread is all about. I'm done with wifi cams and want to place hardwired cameras on that lower level of the...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Thanks Interesting suggestion and something I may look into. But remember this cam is just temporary for daytime viewing of the apron activity because I get random triggers from it the alarm. I had to use 100' of ext cord to power it. So not sure how long I want to leave it out there.

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

I'd like to utilize both a NVR and a laptop, but also keep a monitor on full time with all the cams showing live stream...if that's possible. I know to be sure to match the NVR to the cameras. But still iffy on the LT specs. But appears there is some leeway in that an older system would still...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

After reading several threads here, I'm starting to really understand the key differences between the plug and play and the true VSS cameras. The Sub Stream Guide was also a good read. Easy to understand for the most part, while very informative. I still have lots to learn, esp with BI...some of...

I also found this setup, but don't think its what I want. Its only for 1 cam, so for 4 I'd need 8 media converters?

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

So here's where I am.... I am trying to figure out everything I need to set this up. Even tho this is all new to me, I am more than capable to do this part. Just need a little guidance to ensure I do it right. I want to be sure I fully understand everything required and not run into something I...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Looks like cat5 multimode fiber optic cable with a duplex pair is what I need for 4 cameras. Plus all the connectors and tools. Do I need a media converter switch with an SFP slot? Not that I know wtf that is lol Boy do I have some learning to do. But I am determined to make this happen...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

how many strand do I need? A quick search shows 2, 6 and 8 strand. I'll assume 1 strand per camera. Is there a specific type of fiber other than direct bury to use for the cameras? I know squat about fiber other than reliability.

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

I'm gonna sleep on this for a day or 2. But I'm am leaning heavily towards doing it the right way. wittaj has repeated it enough that it finally got through my thickheaded way of thinking. I was hoping for an easy way for now, but.... "Personally I would rather run temp cabling instead of...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Just for term clarification...the Nest run on the house 120v line only, and then wifi through the Comcast XB8 router. Are they just considered wifi cams, or IP cams? or? >>>edit...so if I understand correctly, the Nest use a powerline adapter. There is a device on the end of each camera line...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

^^^That answers everything I wanted to know for house cams. That would allow me to upgrade the house cams without running cat5 down into the house for a NVR or the BI...still trying to understand how that works and lest just leave it alone for now to avoid confusion. This is just for house cams...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Driveway cams would be strictly solar and wifi unless I trench. apologies for the confusion. Gonna take a break for a few minutes and take the dogs out. I should clarify something...I spent 40 yrs as a flatrape tech for GM. Early retirement 6 yrs ago and I still have the side effects of...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Yeah Nest just need 120v nothing else. I thought POE was over a 120v line. I'm way behind on correct terms right now. The cat 5 was from the logitech. probably shouldn't have mentioned them as it just added to the confusion.

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

If you are talking about taking a good camera and making it wifi and provide a large solar and battery pack so that it can run 24/7 video and feed to an NVR, that is a different scenario. ^^^^^^^ This EXACTLY what I want to do if its worth the effort. The Nest are junk and will stay where they...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

The Nest cams are POE in that all I need is 120v ac to plug into. Some of them also have cat5 in place, but unused currently. And those are only in the attics, so it would be too hot for a NVR. Running cat 5 or 6 from a cam to inside is doable the house, but even more work.

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

"Yeah if you do run wifi, it is highly recommended to have a router that is not connected to the internet and the rest of your network and have it simply be for the cameras. Just recognize/accept that there will still be video drop out and fails." This sounds like a possibility combined with...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Just a comment about my current cams...my Nest do run 24/7. I have every sec of time for the last 60days available. But I'm going to assume its considered recording b/c of the loss of detail when I look beyond 24hrs back.

insert the emoji for my eyes rolling around my head lol. I had to read it 3 times to understand. lol The thought of trenching and everything else, is overwhelming. Why I am finally upgrading cameras

Maybe I'm wrong, but everything considered, maybe I don't need to worry about a LPR right now. But I'd get one as an add on eventually. I mostly want to be able to see the entire lower drive and be able to decide if I need to go out there. I will not hesitate to do this at any hour of the day. I...

Why I am finally upgrading cameras

And then there's BI. I have seen many posts with comments and problems with using it, and it may as well be in Arabic lol. So much still to learn and understand. After I get a handle on the cameras, I'll dive into BI more and see if I can get a better grasp of it. Right now...whew!!:wtf:
