Opinions on Camera locations and type

Just a thought. Have you spoken with your neighbors to see if they are also interested in adding cameras to their places too? If near neighbors were co-operative you could provide better coverage for everyone at less cost per neighbor. Additionally, it casts a wider net of deterrent for the...

    Wireless Camera Pole Install

Ah, short pole therefore small cross section, due to wind loads. Couldn't do that here. My brother standing on my shoulders could make short work of that. Guessing from the angle of the cameras that the pole is a fair distance from the court. Is the pole covered by other cams? PS cost is...

    Wireless Camera Pole Install

Thanks hook3m, explains a lot. I don't recognise those cams but here they would be great for business if they were within hurling distance of basketball armed teens :) Where I am, those junction boxes would cost more than using a taller and thicker gauge "pole". What height are the cams...

    Review-Dahua Starlight IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 800 meter capable ePOE

Could also buy one of each fixed focal length, they won't go to waste and bonus greater coverage. I have plenty of the varis and like them but they were the first reasonably priced Starvis. Don't buy them anymore.

Thanks. Hopefully the OP can explain, rather than speculate their decisions.

    Wireless Camera Pole Install

Mate, I wasn't asking you. I wanted it straight from the OP. We all have our own skill sets and that is why I was asking the OP.

    Wireless Camera Pole Install

Absolutely. If the base diameter of the cameras is <than cross section, I would have mounted directly, hence my question about diameters and cross section. Just one less potential point of failure. A greater cross section of pole is not expensive.

    Wireless Camera Pole Install

Just a question because I do it differently. BTW never met any material that a Bosch mandrel and hole saw cannot cut a circle as good as a waterjet. Please allow me to learn.

    IR Hotspot

Supplement IR illumination. Many options out there. Have seen an AE seller offering a Dahua branded illuminators but cursory search of Dahua's international site reveals they are either copies or .cn only models. Have been working with an OEM developing something suspiciously similar...

    5231-Z5 Bullet Hang/Slow

I don't use BI and still getting similar behavior. Kinda makes me think that it could be the cams.

    Wireless Camera Pole Install

That should be rock solid. Are you using the camera mounts because the cam's have a larger base diameter than the cross section of the pole?

    5231-Z5 Bullet Hang/Slow

One of my Z12 has started doing a similar thing, white screen but can see the IVS rules and the time. Only way I can fix is to hard power cycle it.

    VPN on demand with iDMSS

Just a thought and possibly off topic. I have a 100/50Mbps internet connection and was not totally satisfied with my VPN throughput with my hap ACrouter as the number of cams increased, even though it is an awesome piece of hardware. A few months ago I upgraded my router to the new MikroTik...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Depending on your router, you may be able to set up a local NTP server. As everyone here is looking for most bang for bucks, investigate Mikrotik network gear. Not easy to learn but extremely powerful, if you have time to learn. Inexpensive too.

Dahua Ultra Starlight Varifocal Bullet (IPC-HFW8232E-Z)

No adapter required. Bullets mount perfectly to ceiling as is. Andy doesn't know shit from clay. He was informed about this over 12 hours ago but didn't want to lose face and correct himself here.

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Love the IPC-HDW5231R-Z - now what?

Apparen According to Andy I am the only one who has ever asked for the 6mm. These would be awesome for doorway approach cameras.

Love the IPC-HDW5231R-Z - now what?

If sized appropriately you may slightly overshoot the the target but for the money and sharpness the fixed focals give, I am prepared to waste a few pixels. Now if Andy would start stocking fixed in anything other than 3.6mm, it could be a win win situation.

Love the IPC-HDW5231R-Z - now what?

Those fixed focals kick ass, if you know your lens requirement. Personally I think they perform slightly better than the vari.

Strange issue with ultra starlight IPC-HFW8232E-Z from Andy

Strange. If it runs on shorts cables and you are not using PoE, are the CAT cables quality pre-terminated cables?

Strange issue with ultra starlight IPC-HFW8232E-Z from Andy

When you were using your power supply, did you have the cameras on the bench near the supply? Did your other cams run OK on the bench power supply? Have you checked the camera power connector near the install point with your multi-meter? Have you unplugged any other cameras that may be...

    PFA137 mod

I use ubiquiti toughcable pro and it stands up to being fully exposed in the tropics. Dare same it would be same in opposite climatic extremes. Bit of a pain to work with and pricey but best I can get in this part of the world.

IVS event skipping frames on the local microSD recording

Had to recheck myself as I record continuously. Turned of continuous recording and still missing the start of the IVS event. The only place that I know where you can Pre-event Record is: Even at max Pre-event it still misses the start.

Skipped Frames on MD/IVS/Alerts while recording to on-camera SD card

Random thread resurrection, when you have a current thread IVS event skipping frames on the local microSD recordingon same topic, only serves to confuse matters for everyone and weakens the forum as a resource because search results get a lower signal to noise ratio.

    Camera recommendation for living room

Essentially, if you are relying on a living room camera for identification purposes rather than observing or recognising people in your living room, you have a stranger in your living room and that ain't good. If you look at the table above and someone in your living room is is outside the...
