    Filter alerts by Motion Zone?

When reviewing the list of alerts, is there a way to filter by motion zone? I have configured "near" and "far" motion zones on most of my cameras. The "near" ones are the ones I really care about; eg someone walking on my lawn. Where the "far" ones are just for car counting and to make it...

3 teens in west San Jose home breakin (11am Sat. Dec. 9)

That's true enough. I do have the door chimes for all my doors and windows, so I would know during the day if someone saunters in. I really should arm at night though. That's when I'd be more likely not to hear the chime.

Geez, that's pretty scary! Time for me to arm my alarm even when I'm home!!!

3 teens in west San Jose home breakin (11am Sat. Dec. 9)

When I sent videos to the postmaster general I just sent them via Google Drive. No issues. SJPD unfortunately is hit and miss with property crime. They did a good job busting a gang committing a series of break-ins in my area a year back, but other things (like the video I have of a guy...

    Mail theft gang

The tree has been trimmed back significantly, and I've got the camera zoomed in at the mailbox. So far no takers. Time for a baited package. Lol.

    Mail theft gang

HAHAHA, wow, I wasted a lot of time on those videos too. Those electric dog collars ARE really cheap. It would not take a lot to wire something like that up to a mailbox. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Haha.

NTP Server not working for Dauha cameras

This was my exact same thought. Its tempting, but then I think of where I'd locate the antenna for decent reception, and it ends up becoming more of a project than its really worth I'm happy enough having all the cameras simply synced to one another.

NTP Server not working for Dauha cameras

If you're looking for a dirt cheap standalone option, a Raspberry Pi makes a great NTP server. I picked one up to set up an NTP server that all my cameras and NVR sync to. It seems to keep the timestamps for the cameras nicely in sync. With the default camera NTP settings I was setting a few...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Bullet Z5 7-35mm (IPC-HFW5231E-Z5)

WOOAH! I just changed the settings on my cameras and the audio is actually useful now! THANKYOU for that tip!!!!!

Since I already have an open/closed sensor on the mailbox, I can use that to not only trigger the camera, but to also trigger an air horn when the mailbox is opened after hours.

    Mail theft gang

I suppose mounting it on the tree itself and pointing it out at the mailbox would work. That would give a straight sight line to the mailboxes.

    Transformer explosion

I suppose it could be fireworks too. Seemed very sudden and loud for fireworks though.

    Mail theft gang

Hahah, yeah. The Starlight Varifocal on the front of the house can definitely zoom to see the mailbox clearer. I'm tempted to consider a smaller form factor camera hidden nearer to the road though. Problem is there is no fencing or anything to really attach it to. I suppose a bird house...

    Mail theft gang

My neighbor and I are going to switch to locking mailboxes as well. Given that there was some papers left in one of the opened mailboxes across the street I suspect they were looking for packages. The postal delivery person came Sunday during the day to drop off packages. There's a part of me...

    Mail theft gang

Wow talk about brazen. Then postal inspector hasn't even investigated this and they're at it again. I got a partial face this time. Sheesh. I'll report to local pd as well as updating my USPS case number. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

    Mail theft gang

Yeah, we've had a rash of property crimes in my area lately. The local PD doesn't have the resources to investigate them very well. Hopefully the mail theft one can be dealt with a bit more comprehensively.

    Mail theft gang

I ended up calling USPS; they took down the details and the local inspector will contact me for more information. I've of course saved all the videos related to this so that they can review them. Its a shame that my cameras are all focused on the area immediately around the house. The fact that...

    Mail theft gang

I've reported other minor crimes observed to the local cops. They've never some out for the footage even when I had clear footage. I looked at the post master general website and I need to call them. I've been in meetings this week so it hasn't been good. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using...

    Mail theft gang

I tried just putting the wireless sensor right in the mailbox, but the signal didn't make it all the way to the house. I used an ecolink zwave door sensor (Z-wave Plus Rare Earth Magnets Door & Window Sensor, White & Brown (DWZWAVE2.5-ECO)...

    Mail theft gang

The other night the z-wave door sensor I installed on my mailbox detected an opening at 2:09am. Reviewing the camera footage, I discovered the following. First, a UHaul van drives up and down the street a few times and parks. Then a team (you can see one guy on my side of the street, and another...

    Transformer explosion

A few weeks ago, my system caught what I think was a transformer explosion. The video doesn't show much, but you can clearly hear it here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dovEnDWxqxaYcsTj2 One of the IR cameras captured the flash quite well though; you can see how the street went from dimly lit to...

Dahua minidome catches guy casing house

This is true. The individual didn't even try the doorbell either, which would have made it entirely clear that someone was home. I'd hope with knowledge that someone is home they'd have not bothered as well. Hmm, time to keep a bat under the bed.

Is there a good small camera for front and rear doors?

If I could do it again, I'd choose to have my camera at face level beside the door. Given I've got a front step, an individual wearing a hat would need to look up at the camera for me to see their face.

My only apprehension about putting the key under the mat would be that they find the key doesn't work so just smash the window anyways; seems I've have caused an escalation that I really don't want.

Haha yeah my wife and I discussed it but figure knowing our luck someone would break into our car and steal the dash cam or something silly. We're going to keep the cars in the garage. We only moved in a year ago from an appt so haven't had the chance to clutter the cars out yet. Hahaha...

Yes very much so. The image quality is great especially since it's just the porch light. I played around with the shutter and gamma curve and got even more out of it. So if the guy returns I'll have even better shots. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
