    New home build questions

Welcome to the forums. You won't need a NVR installed to test, but you will need to power it somehow and connect it to your laptop via a network cable. You can either use a 12VDC power supply or a POE injector or switch. As far as accessing the cameras, get a router that you has OpenVPN...

How much "hidden" should be a dome camera from sunlight....

@tibimakai, check out this thread. Remember it isn't just sunlight that destroys plastic. I've spent enough time in So. Cal. to know that the atmosphere carries other items that will degrade the plastic quickly. Also remember, nothing will beat a baseball bat, can of spray paint, or the good...

    Ip camera going offline

That could be the cause as it could be a loop. Unsure if his switches have STP built in.

    Ip camera going offline

There more than likely is something in your network topology causing you grief. Verify none of your switches are running a DHCP server (i don't think those switches have that option). Because the switches are daisy chained, start your troubleshooting by disconnecting the downstream switches...

    Ip camera going offline

It sounds like a network segmentation issue. You need to get into your switch logs and see what is going on.

    Ip camera going offline

Probably WiFi interference as @fenderman alluded to. With a good wifi signal, no devices should disconnect. The fact that all of them disconnect shows you have an issue. Unsure of what router/access points you are using, but it would be interesting to see if any log files are available and if...

    Mistakes made

In your router, there should be a settings page for DHCP IP addresses. Typically it is. x.x.x.100 to x.x.x.150. My pool is 25 addresses from .50 to .75. My IP Cameras are assigned IP addresses via their MAC addresses on the router starting at .170 through .180. That is outside my pool. IP...

    Mistakes made

If the camera IP address keeps changing, that is a function of the DHCP settings in your router. There should be an option in your router to bind the MAC address to a specific IP address. You can leave the camera setup as DHCP, but the router will take over and assign a specific IP address...

    New Smart PSS V2.003.0000000.0.R.190802

@EMPIRETECANDY, one thing I just noticed with this version, is that it will only show 1 IVS per camera on the live view (highest in the list). Also, moving a window in live view causes the program to crash. Is anyone else seeing this?

    Time lapse camera shots

I'm more concerned on how to schedule the shots? Is that something built into the cameras (I have a 2231 and 5231) or is this something I need to script? I was thinking I could merge them with FFMPEG tho. I did find this github that I can probably hack for 2 cameras fairly easily.

    Time lapse camera shots

I'm going to have a building put up and was thinking I'd like to have one of my cameras take snapshots every hour during daylight hours to record the progress. Is there already a pre-written program out there that can do this (other than BI)?

You must do a hard reset on each of the cameras. Then you will need to use the NVR password to login to the cameras from the NVR interface
