    FYI, I upgraded by 2231 and seems to be working. No plugin required for video.

    You should also get micro-sd cards for the camera. If the NVR gets knocked out, it will still be recorded on the camera and vice versa. Plenty of threads here on what is a good quality card.

    1. there are several apps that will work on android 2. No, it won't work that way. 8 = 8. Get the dahua 5216-16-4ks2 version (non P) and get a POE switch. The 5216 has much more horsepower than the 4216. For your budget, look at the 2231. few less options than the 5231, but a solid camera.

    What are your other cameras? What are their bitrates, encoding, etc.? Unless everything is the same, you can't make a comparison.

    Depends on your network setup what you can see or not see. The easiest solution is to use SmartPSS to connect to the DVR, and then you can see all the cameras connected.

    Holy crap. If you are upgrading your wireless router just for OpenVPN, there are way cheaper options. Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X or even a rPi with it installed. If your wireless stinks, get something new, but I've switched to a separate router and "lite commercial" access points and haven't looked...

    I second what @awsum140 said. If you don't need audio, put two 2231's up instead. If you want audio, 5231 is where you will be.
