Aha, that makes sense, thanks for that. And guessing use of the IE tab extension in Chrome for Windows is free?

Web viewer with PTZ Control - Webcam style

Thanks for the plug @TonyR! (I wrote EasyPTZ). In the past I've set up a Dahua camera to relay through YouTube. I don't remember the details, but a web search for "embed ip camera in youtube" or something will probably find details. I found that it worked decently but there was a significant...

    Dahua and ubuntu

Interesting about the IE-Tab Chrome extension. When I try to use it though it wants to charge me $6/month for up to 10 hours of use or $10/month for "unlimited" that it then explains isn't actually unlimited: http://www.ietab.net/pricing-mac?quotaexpired=1 Not you? And I have access to three...

    Dahua and ubuntu

Old thread I know, but I couldn't get playback to work on my Dahua camera from Ubuntu using SeaMonkey (or Chrome or Firefox). Interestingly it didn't even work from MS Edge when I tried on a Windows box. The only thing that worked was good ol IE. Yikes. Has anyone happen to have found a way to...

    ANPR accuracy %

My vote is for OpenALPR. It gets pretty close to 100% when I feed it decent plate images. My recommendation is to avoid Dahua's built in LPR, which gets maybe 30% even under the best conditions in my experience.

Browser access to Dahua NVR suddenly broken

I'm surprised Dahua doesn't require us to use Vista! Gets me so irritated every time I have to fire up Internet Explorer to watch the playback from my cameras. Partying like it's 1999!

In praise of my Dahua camera!

I've got a SD49225T-HN mounted on a roof above the beach, facing into all the oncoming weather with frequent 60 mph winds, and the thing is still rock solid after a couple of years. Amazing. (Excuse the ghetto mounting job, ha. It's slightly tidier now.) That point in the distance is...

What happened to Live Cams Pro on iOS?

I'm in the same boat, missing Live Cams Pro. Isn't there some way to install an app that isn't in the app store via itunes? One app to try is iDMSS Plus, but it's not as good as Live Cams Pro. Neither are as good as Tinycam Pro on Android, but Live Cams Pro was the best on iOS. A shame they...

    New Dahua LPR

Interesting. I've had absolutely terrible results with it's ALPR. I'm now using OpenALPR with it, from exactly the same angle, and getting near 100%. With the Dahua's ALPR I'm lucky to get 1/3 correct. Not being able to get the plate from this image is kind of crazy in my opinion: Do you...

    New Dahua LPR

Well I guess one question I have is: does it do a good job of alpr for you? And if you've used openalpr, how would you compare it? I can't get it to produce usable alpr, and my lighting and angle are pretty good (see pics above).
  11. W

    New Dahua LPR

Good idea. And yeah the file/folder structure is crazy. I could see using that for internal camera storage, but it's pretty lazy of Dahua to upload them that way.
  12. W

    New Dahua LPR

And aha, there's hope for extracting the ALPR data without having to use the NVR (and I don't have enough faith in their software developers to give them another $450). If FTP is enabled from the camera's Storage -> FTP, and ALPR is enabled, it uploads 3 images for every vehicle it sees: the...

    New Dahua LPR

I know, but my point is that my server, like most servers, has the top level domain (and therefore a period) in the /path/to/ftp. For example on Dreamhost my website is at /home/myusername/mydomainname.com/whatever. I'm pretty sure AWS is the same way. I know there's a few hosts that don't have...

    New Dahua LPR

Another funny detail about this camera is that you can't have a period in the FTP path. I have websites on 3 different servers, with 3 different hosts, and every one of them has the top level domain (.com or .org or whatever) in the FTP path. But Dahua doesn't allow periods in the path, which...

    New Dahua LPR

Someone sent me an update that brought me up to AI Version 4.0.7. I don't think it improved the ALPR at all, it still correctly reads less than 50% of the plates it sees, and I have a really good view of cars moving slowly. For example it missed this plate, which is downright amazing: I...

    New Dahua LPR

I'm hoping the NVR does the license plate recognition, because so far I can't imagine relying on this camera's ALPR.
  17. W

    New Dahua LPR

So in case it's not clear for anyone considering buying this camera: this $450 camera requires a $400+ accessory (the NVR) to make it's ALPR even somewhat usable... And I'm still unclear: does the NVR do any ALPR of its own, or is it just reading the ALPR metadata from the camera? And if it...

    New Dahua LPR

And after the firmware update I still don't see a way to search for license plates, or even to see the license plates for recorded footage. It shows them on the Live tab as cars drive by, with the same 50% average plate recognition. Hopefully that recognition rate improves with the Algorithm...

    New Dahua LPR

@EMPIRETECANDY: I did the firmware update (thanks!) but now on Setting -> Information -> Version it says "Algorithm version does not match, please upgrade firmware.bin". Possible to send over firmware.bin? Here's a screenshot of that page: When I download the firmware from Dahua's site I get...

    New Dahua LPR

Does the NVR do it's own ALPR, or does the camera do it? If it does it's own, does it do ALPR with the Z12E? And can anyone comment on it's performance versus OpenALPR? And does it allow the user to search for license plates and/or interact with external databases?
  21. W

    New Dahua LPR

What's the advantage of doing that over sending the main stream to both? And I still don't understand: does the NVR do any ALPR?
  22. W

    New Dahua LPR

According to @samplenhold they have the same sensor: I have them mounted side by side, although at different angles, and their image looks exactly the same to me.
  23. W

    New Dahua LPR

Me too, I love OpenALPR. But then there's no point in using the $450 IPC-HFW7442H-Z, might as well use the half priced IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E, which is actually a better choice since it has more zoom.
  24. W

    New Dahua LPR

Wouldn't that work with any camera? In other words doesn't that bypass the ALPR on the camera itself, like using OpenALPR on an external computer?
  25. W

    New Dahua LPR

So to be clear, you're using OpenALPR to do the LPR, not the camera's internal feature? I'm sure that would work well, it's the internal ALPR that I'm finding terrible. But I haven't done the firmware update yet, so hopefully there's an improvement once I do. Are you talking about on the NVR...

    New Dahua LPR

Great, I'll try the firmware update tomorrow. As far as the NVR: https://www.amazon.com/EmpireTech-NVR4216-16P-I-16Channel-WizSense-Recorder/dp/B08DFXK5XH/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=NVR4216-16P-I&m=A329YQ83EBQGJF&qid=1605768623&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1&tag=ipctk-20 Does it do ALPR, or just...

    New Dahua LPR

Are you saying there's a firmware that isn't on their website? Would love a link if so. Why not? OpenALPR (or whatever) can receive a stream from this camera just like any other camera, right? Great! Where do I find it?

    New Dahua LPR

I'm far from a master of the IPC-HFW7442H-Z, but a few thoughts after playing with it for a few hours today: - the firmware doesn't seem to have been updated in almost a year and a half. That's a bit odd for a new camera with complicated features...

Recommended computer for ALPR with 2 cameras?

Possible to start a different thread to discuss that? I'm trying to get some input on a computer purchase, and it got pretty side tracked last time I tried. Not complaining, just trying to keep it focused on this.

Recommended computer for ALPR with 2 cameras?

I just got a second camera, and it's confirmed, my old Thinkpad T530 definitely can't process them both. So I'm looking at getting a replacement computer again. To keep costs down I'm thinking about getting a desktop, unless someone knows of a good inexpensive laptop. Doesn't need to be new...
