Connecting from remote PC to Blue Iris PC: Remote Desktop Certificate Error

This one is a bit geekier: RDP TLS Certificate Deployment Using GPO Myself, I just ignore them and tell it to never ask me again. If you are connecting through a port forward you are exposing your BI machine to the internet. If not, not much reason to have a cert.

Phone is not the issue. I had him connect to my vpn from his phone and it worked perfectly. Issue is his VPN setup, which an android phone would not fix at this point.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

@Probird79 This I will disagree with "Not to mention you won't be getting security patches on your phones either..." Microsoft is pretty diligent about security patches. Since the mobile OS sharing the same kernel as desktop windows and WinIOT (until the abandon it) I think we will continue to...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

You are correct, eventually someone will find the port. I would still recommend softether to connect with. It works from my winphone perfectively and was pretty easy to set up.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Hi Gary, This, "Avoid common ports by changing the default device ports and / or mapping different external ports to the internal ports.", is why I said to pick a random port above 8000. This is for the public side of your network. The router will NAT it to whatever port you specify internally...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Hi Gary, While you are working on getting your VPN to work I would enable port forwarding. Let's, for example, assume you have two cameras you want to view. This assumes that you have some type of dynamic DNS setup. If you configured softether on your laptop then they provide a Dynamic DNS...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Hi Gary, You are not saying how you want to connect from outside? Did you get the VPN to work? If so you would connect with the existing Wi-Fi settings. If you are looking to connect through the you would need to forward some ports. If you are going to do that you would need some type of dynamic...

That looks correct. In Port range, you will just have the single port that matches the destination port. You will have about 6 entries.

This list doesn't match what I thought I saw in the manual for your device. You should only need to complete the following: Name: Your choice - something to remind you what the port forward is for. Source Port: The port incoming Destination IP: Your laptop you are running SoftEther on...

@GKL Take a look at this thread Windows Phone - SoftEther VPN User Forum I just was able to get my Window Phone to work adding the UDP ports to the router NAT table. I am using a Raspberry Pi with 2 nics, but it might solve your issue.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Windows Phone also supports a few other VP protocols and if he wants to keep is phone, there are numerous tutorials to set up Softether on a $35 raspberry pi. Setting up VPN Server on Raspberry Pi 2 is one example. As to the insecurity of pptp, if someone wants my data that bad, they can break...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Hi Gary, Using PPTP to view the main stream exhibits both lag and shop. Sub stream seems to be acceptable. And on a phone screen they look almost the same. To tell you the truth, I don't remember what it took to set up PPTP. I believe it is supported in dd-wrt natively. There is a good...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Hi Gary, I use a simple PPTP connection to connect to my netgear 3700 router running dd-wrt. Think it is a pretty standard setup. I guess I don't care if someone watches my front door or my cat. Previously I set up some port forwards on random ports and accessed it directly with domain:port. It...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

You are describing Blue Iris now. :) My only complaint with the BI app on Windows Phone is, that in my case at least, it doesn't actually play back the clips. I don't hold out much hope that it will get fixed since WP is dead officially now. But if you stick with HikVision cameras and iVMS app...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

@fenderman, I have the iVMS-4500 on my Lumia 950XL and it does have the capability to play back recorded video if it is on the SD card in the camera. As for the generic IP camera apps, I would suspect that is the case, but have only played with a few of them.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Hikvision's iVMS-4500 is supported on windows phone. There is also a Blue Iris app still available. Using Blue Iris means that your camera choice is much broader.
