NVR4108-8P-4KS2 delay when switching camera streams?

I have the same NVR w/o the POE ports. Most of the cameras are Dahua 3 or 4 MP. The only lag I see when switching views is the one cheap ONVIF cam. Very slow to appear, maybe 4 seconds.

    Review-Dahua NVR4104-HS-P-4ks Network Recorder.

I'd be satisfied using SmartPSS for reviewing video and for capturing clips and snaps; the features for that are better than those of the NVR. But that would require a link between my CCTV switch and my LAN/WAN. Unless and until I set up a secondary VPN router, I keep that link unplugged...

    Review-Dahua NVR4104-HS-P-4ks Network Recorder.

I have a very similar model, the 4108, 4K, non-POE. I'm pretty happy with everything about it except this: there is no Manual Snapshot feature during Playback. In the previous firmware the icon was present but disabled; now it's gone completely. So, in order get a screenshot from playback I...

    Small form factor Starlight?

Based on some comments I thought I had read here, I thought that a Starlight camera was a Starvis sensor coupled with a fast lens. A consumer might think that the Starvis sensor alone would produce Starlight quality.

NVR only picking up low res sub stream

I'm not sure what to say. Onvif.org says that in June 2017 Profile T was a Release Candidate. I found this article from April 2017 which says: "ONVIF is working on incorporating new formats such as H.265 into its Profiles. With the new ONVIF video profile that is currently being developed...

    aerial Ethernet

I think using a guide cable is a fine idea for short to medium spans. Might be too heavy overall for a really long one. What sort of guide cable did you use?

NVR only picking up low res sub stream

You'd need to check the firmware release number in each camera and then look at https://www.dahuasecurity.com/support/DownloadCenter/Firmware.

NVR only picking up low res sub stream

ONVIF support for H.265 was only finalized a few months ago. Do you have the latest firmware in your NVR?

    aerial Ethernet

I've seen a handful of references on this board to running aerial cable. Though it's never the best choice, sometimes it may be the only choice, so I thought I'd make a comment or two about installation. Using Ethernet cable with a built-in steel support strand is a must, and you can't just put...

Dahua day/night settings - the basics

Thanks, lemand91. Your reply prompted me to dig around and I discovered the camera's scheduler in the GUI. That's going to help a lot. Where I live the maximum difference in daytime length is only about 40 minutes, so I can set the schedule for 6am to 6pm. Dawn and dusk will each occur +/- 10...

Dahua day/night settings - the basics

Aw heck. I figured and hoped that everybody but me knew how this works. The problem is that I keep most of my cameras in Color mode all the time but I only need and want WDR in the daytime. Since there is no PC in this arrangement, I can't use scripts. I can say from today's observation that...

Dahua day/night settings - the basics

Dahua cameras have settings for Normal, Day, and Night. - Are these settings triggered by the camera's IR sensor? Will they still be triggered if the camera is set to Colorful? Dahua NVRs have settings for Profile 1, Profile 2, and Profile 3. - Do these correspond, in order, with Normal...

    Outdoor Property Corner Coverage

I think you should draw a map of the property, to scale as best you can manage. Try different placements of 1 or 2 cameras of differing heights, angles, and FOV. Then get a tall stepladder, move it around, climb up and imagine the camera view (or combined views). Then make your purchase...

    Outdoor Property Corner Coverage

    - You could place a pole there with two cameras. One at the top with a wide FOV, one lower down with a tighter view straight out the driveway. - Two poles would be better, of course - If you make one or more long aerial spans, consider using cable with a built-in support strand. Others will...

    Dahua NVR608-64-4ks2 - H.265 Question

Just curious, why does the bitrate show Custom and 1kbps ? Added thought: are the cameras registered as Private as opposed to Onvif?

    Dahua PTZ over-voltage - recoverable?

"Being able to read how a conductor reacts to changing induced voltages will tell you if the conductor is OK, open or shorted....if you know how to read it." Sometimes I can't remember to put on my pants but I have good recall of my time as a repairman for Ma Bell in the 70's. We were provided...

Solved: Problems after repunching down with Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z

All my work has been with stiff outdoor Cat 5E and it's easy to do a bad RJ45. First thing I bought was an $8 end-to-end tester. By far the best dollars I've spent on my CCTV system. Even if this problem turns out to be something else, you're gonna want one.

    NVR opinions

The 4104-4KS2 is limited to four channels, so it doesn't sound like the right NVR for you. I have the eight channel 4108-4KS2 version and I like it with one caveat: the manual snapshot feature, which works in live view, has been removed from playback mode. I cannot understand why Dahua has done...

    Recording file size issues

    - Have you tried putting several cameras on the switch and none on the 2nd nic? - Is the switch managed or unmanaged? - How does the switch get connected to the PC (i.e. is there a router)?

Bitrate on CBR vs VBR vs FPS v H265

Since we're here, could someone discuss the bitrate impact of H.265 versus the Dahua's H.264H ?

seeking a better camera for this location

This is a T-intersection, with the main street coming in past the camera and the connection to the other street visible in the lower left. A 2MP camera rotated to 1080x1920 would be very interesting but I would then need a 2nd or 3rd camera at other angles to get a full view of the pedestrians...

seeking a better camera for this location

Ah, I missed the model number so clearly displayed on YouTube. No, I meant the IPC-HFW5231R-Z mentioned by matt200 as a varifocal alternative to the fixed lens IPC-HFW4231E-S.

seeking a better camera for this location

Thanks, bigredfish. Very convincing videos, especially considering that YouTube has added further compression. I will ask Andy for a price. The only listings I found on AliExpress were all fake in that they don't have Sony sensors.

seeking a better camera for this location

"tighter focus" Hmm. I'm trying my best to think this through. Would a 2.8-12mm lens, extended to 3.6mm and centered on the guard shack, give me as much depth of field as my current fixed length lens? The answer would matter to me because this system is generally un-monitored, no one around to...

seeking a better camera for this location

I mentioned fixed lens mostly because my budget for this is tight. Also, this system is usually not monitored so it would almost always be left extended at 3.6mm. With the existing 3MP cam, on the NVR's 1080p monitor, I can zoom in at least 30% in Live View or Playback before it pixelates. I...

seeking a better camera for this location

One of my cams is a Dahua HFW43005S-V2. It's 3MP, has a 3.6mm lens, is more than two years old. The setting has just enough ambient and street lighting to allow setting Color mode at night. I recently bought a 4MP HFW4431M-I2 thinking it it might be better but it wasn't so I didn't bother...

    Upgrade HDW4631EM vs 4431EM worth it ?

Is there a bullet or mini-bullet version of the IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE ? The pic above is from a Dahua 3Mp fixed 3.6 lens. The FOV is fine but I want a less noisy nighttime image. And less ghosting in movement.
