which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

Thanks Andy and wittaj. Good advice. I'll just use the camera UI since I should not have to change it much. Any zoom & focus changes later will be done via API when switching between night and day.

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

The Z12E arrived today. So I went outside and dug a hole and put in a 4x4 post to mount the camera. The camera will be mounted 3.6' high. The concrete is drying/curing now. Should be ready in a couple days. In the mean time, I'm pre-staging my camera. I added it to BI but can't seem to get...

What router are you guys using?

The Ubiquiti gear is decent and quick to setup and easy to use. pfSense takes a little more work to setup initially. It is just as easy to manage once it's setup (IMHO). It does have add-ons which can expand its capability (OpenVPN, pfBlockerNG). I run pfSense and Blueiris on the same...

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

LOL. Trust me, I know. I've been cited for leaving my trash can outside, for being too messy under my deck, for too many weeds in my flower bed, for missing my house number on my mailbox, and for an area of dirty siding. The HOA hired a management company who has "agents" that walked around...

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

HOA's have there pluses and minuses. Not all neighborhoods have HOAs. I do think they have too much power. If you don't follow the rules, or the dues, they can put a lien on your house and sell it.

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

I would love to do that but my HOA won't allow that. Everyone has the same mailbox.

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

I'm sure my neighbor would love me if I chopped his tree :). If I mount the camera lower, I can get a clear view under the trees. I'll be doing a lot of experimentation (glad the camera will be only a few feet off the ground so that I don't have to climb a ladder each time to try new angles)...

What router are you guys using?

In terms of VPN, if your purpose is only for BlueIris, then I would go the stunnel route. This would cost you nothing and be a secure way to access your BI web UI. You said CHEAP. Hard to beat free :).

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

The Z12E should arrive next week (yes, should be fun :)). In the mean time as a preview, here is my target location. This picture is from my overview camera and I was originally intending to place the Z12E right next to it. But the trees may present a problem so the LPR camera will be mounted...

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

Great work with your cameras. Thanks for sharing your experience. I only need one so figured I would stick with something ready to test with. I plan to automate the license reading.

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

Based on the feedback, I'm hoping this will be the sweet spot. I'll mount the camera about 4 ft high. IPVM shows 125ft distance. PPF of 147. The curve of the road will have the vehicles' plate at an angle of about 30 degrees. I'm hoping I don't have to add additional IR.

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

Thanks. I just ordered the Z12. As much as I like to tinker, I'm going to give the Z12 a try first and see if it has enough zoom.

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

Yes, I just noticed the trees when I checked out the view in-person. LOL. Looks like if I mount the camera about 3' high, I would be able to go under the leaves and get an unobstructed view. The spot you indicated has an angle that looks between 30-35 degrees. I was thinking that might be...

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

I'm also concerned about achieving good night time results. Although the road goes in front of my house, I can't put a camera near the road. My house is about 50' from the road, so to get a good angle, I need the target further away. My planned camera location (attached to my house) is about...

which camera for LPR at a distance of 215ft?

Hello team, LPR seems interesting and I'd like to give it a try. Based on IPVM, my "capture" point is about 215' from the camera location. Would the IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E work for both day and night? I'm thinking 215' may be too far. What other cameras would you recommend at this distance?

    3990X & Blueirs thoughts ?

Your CPU is at 12%. Your RAM consumption is 2.58G. Not sure you need to upgrade. I'm sure it's not about 'need', more about 'want' :). LOL

Do I install the Honeywell Ademco Vista 20P or get something newer?

The Eyez-On EnvisaLink EVL4-EZR looks like it might work. I have the Vista 20P. I like the Alexa integration. I'll can put switches on my garage doors and ask, "is garage door 1 closed?". Time to start watching youtube videos on how to install the Vista 20P (I remember reading over the...

Do I install the Honeywell Ademco Vista 20P or get something newer?

Is Internet connectivity an important feature to have? Do you have yours connected to the internet? It would be nice to receive some sort of notification in case the alarm goes off. Also, can you turn off the sirens remotely? I was not planning on having it monitored.

Do I install the Honeywell Ademco Vista 20P or get something newer?

Hello everyone. I would love your feedback. Back in 2006 (I had to check my receipt to know it was that long ago), I purchased a Honeywell Ademco Vista 20P kit with the intention of installing it. I bought a bunch of sensors and switches for it as well. Sadly, the kit is still sitting in a...

Problem with vpn while on separate WiFi

I love this app! Been using it for years. And it's free tool. mikeynags is right, the OP's issue is VPN split-tunneling. Disabling VPN split-tunneling should fix his problem. As noted, he will not be able to get to anything at the local source location while the VPN is active.

Don't port-forward for direct camera feeds. It's fine to port-forward to security devices. Like a VPN gateway. See here: Noob Question on Router & Switch

Server Rack - adding components - cable management - suggestions please

Yeah, I guess I'm used to it. I didn't even consider buying 6" cables. First RJ45 I crimped was back in 1994.

Server Rack - adding components - cable management - suggestions please

Like others have said, you might consider spreading out so that all your patch panels are not together. The switch doesn't have to be next to each other either. I also made my own 6" patch cables from the switch to the patch panel to minimize the cable sprawl in front. But there is a still...

Hardware and Software option to replace Unifi Gear (HOME)

Blue Iris works great on ESXi. There are some threads that describe it. You will need hardware acceleration so that means you will passthrough the GPU (either integrated or discrete).

    Dual NIC via USB? Recommendations?

The ASIX AX88179 chipset (used by Dlink and Lenovo among others) is proven and I can also validate that they work fine. I have three of the Startech USB 3.0 NICs, which are based on the same ASIX AX88179 chipset as these. Other popular chipsets are Realtek RTL8152/RTL8153 (used by TP-link...

    3990X & Blueirs thoughts ?

The RTX 3090 is a gaming card, which I'm sure would do fine. NVIDIA's enterprise cards with 24GB+ have been out for a while. They are specifically designed to AI, ML, rendering, transcoding, etc. They can get very pricey though. Not saying anyone would get a Quadro, GRID or TITAN card for BI...

Camera system messes with work computer VPN

Sure. If you have BI and the switch disconnected from your internet router (BI still plugged into your switch), and your PC is plugged into the switch, does your PC get a dynamic IP address (in the 192.168.x.x range)?
