So my router is fios provided actiontec mi424 revision g. It is connected coax from service and there it converts coax to Ethernet internally with I'm guessing a bridge mode as I don't have the wan port. So it's a modem router. One other thing I have not tried and don't really have the... -

Right sorry should have said I did turn on virtual host and did set cameras to 254.1 gateway. The ONLY thing I have not done is power off the unit after changes but reboot did take place -

I have not yet but yesterday had a chance to try it a different way connected my laptop to a Poe port and with all routing in place I was able to get back to the router so I know routing is working but I couldn't get out to the web even if/when I set the DNS on the laptop manually. What I'm... -

motion sensitivity
thanks for confirming. one would think a setting of 1 on the nvr would set something higher than 0 on the cameras. guess will have to get used to it. thanks again. -

Yes i have actually just earlier today noticed the thanks feature and have happily began to use it as you guys have been most helpful. as far as dns all of my devices are working without issue, the NVR is able to get to ntp servers as well as smtp servers to send emails so I can't imagine there... -

Thanks @kccustom, so I guess the question is what is the actual trigger to tell the camera to send to the nvr? Is it simply turning the feature on on the camera and if that's the case isn't it enough to turn on the feature via the nvr since it then turns on the camera setting anyway? -

Thanks again @aster1x, yes I have been able to get things to work BUT I had to expand the subnet which is not ideal, as soon as I put the subnet back to .0 it again stops working. My settings again are nvr 192.168.1.200 set as static on the router so the nvr picks this up itself at which... -

also on this topic is a somewhat interesting question: if i do all these changes what if anything does that impact with regard to how the cameras interact with the NVR? will i potentially lose some of the nvr built in functionality since it will not be talking the way it thinks it should be? -

motion sensitivity
ok i will admin i will have quite a few more questions in the coming days so bare with me. trying to set the motion alerts and it seems like leaves are setting it off. so i adjusted the sensitivity to 1 on the nvr 7608 but that seems to yield a 0 sensitivity on the cameras themselves 2332... -

Yup I got this far after following the steps here. I did have the router subnet set to 255.255.255.0 and when it was the cameras had no access to the outside they were failing. The issue it seems is there is no easy way to turn off the dhcp of the nvr and there is no physical link between the... -

AHA FINALLY so I have to double check what this setting does BUT a friend of mine is a networks guy and told me that 2 subnets can only talk on a 255.255.0.0 mask. SO i set on my router a section to 255.255.0.0 for subnet and i still have the right ip address but now the routing is going to... -
