Edit: Was re-reading (again) the OP initial post and found this. Is this correct or another vendor?
Sorry to side-track; what is Andy's store name? I tried the camera name and "EMPIRETECANDY" on AliExpress with no success.
Again sorry for the n00b question here.
In a dual-supply setup, no, unless you had some sort of monitoring setup (thinking DIY setup like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc).
In a single-supply setup, yes, because your cameras would be offline. ;)
Yea I guess my mind is in the enterprise datacenter space, where *everything* is redundant. And expensive. And loud. ;)
Although my server (running the NVR) does have a redundant PSU! :D But my switch doesn't. Boo!
Anyone used something like this? Any alternatives/feedback/etc?
WS-POE-Dual Failover Diode Bridge - Dual 9 volt to 56 volt input - single output | eBay
Was thinking about this for redundancy for the PoE injectors.
Thanks for posting the sample pictures and video. :) This combined with nayr's content really helps to see how the camera performs in different situations.
EDIT: Adding quote for relevance.
Couldn't agree with you more; relying on a manufacturer alone to keep a device secure isn't wise. That's why I'm isolating my camera network traffic from my other networks. :)
That said, some IoT manufactures do release firmware with security fixes included...
Great! Thank you nayr! :) There seem to be multiple security exploits lately for IoT devices so it's nice to have the option to update the firmware just in case.
Not a replacement for healthy security practices of course, but a nice option for the paranoid like myself. :D
Just got an email from Ali Express that they now take PayPal. I wonder if that will resolve this issue?
Side note, any updates on when this camera will be back in stock? :)
@nayr what NVR software or hardware are you using with that camera? I'm testing Sighthound with a different Dahua camera but it'll only connect to the sub stream not the main stream.
Sorry I realize this is somewhat off topic. But I want to make sure this will work before investing in multiple...
Reading (lurking) through this entire thread, and I think I'll be returning my newly purchased 4MP Dahua (IPC-HDBW4431R-AS) for this 2MP one. So weird to say that...sounds like I'm taking a step backward...but you can't argue with the comparison footage that @nayr posted. The night time clarity...
