    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thanks for asking, we're getting close, I fixed several settings I had wrong and added a Softether bridge I didn't realize I needed. We think the final roadblock is that the computer that has the Softether VPN server must be hardwired to the router. Today I'll be trying to use an old computer...

net neutrality vote, could this affect ip camera remote viewing ?

That's what I was thinking, that it further compression would not be a viable option, but I wasn't sure.

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thanks, the offer is really appreciated, Roger has sent me some screenshots of his set up that should be a big help, I should have time this afternoon to fix some settings I had wrong and set up a bridge I overlooked to do, afterwards I'll see about checking back after I have it working to let...

    Hik-Connect App vs. iVms 4500

I know us Windows phone users are in a minority  it's not because they are not great phones, but the company failed to give it the support and promotion it needed  Well, that iVMS-4500 app is one they made for Windows phones, they just didn't include the Hik-Connect option. I...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Thanks for the suggestion, Roger has Softether VPN working to connect with his windows phone okay so I know it is doable, he is going to share some screenshots of how he has his set up so that way I might spot where I have something wrong on my set up.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Good points, could get passwords ? That would be the main concern. Is there a way to tell (software program) if you've been hacked ? I had thought hackers would spread malware, is that much of a concern ?

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Softether is what I was trying to use since it does offer VPN protection, but it hasn't been easy for me (as a noob), I could have just a couple basic settings wrong and have no idea that it's wrong. At least since I know since it works with your windows phone at least I'll know it's worth the...

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

I know I sound like a noob, it's because I am when it comes to this stuff, but you are saying everyone who does port forwarding WILL get hacked, not maybe or 50% chance, but definitely will get hacked ? If so and it's that bad, why don't they make routers so it's impossible to do something that...

net neutrality vote, could this affect ip camera remote viewing ?

Very good point, maybe if it could be compressed to download then uncompressed after download, but I'm not sure if video could be compressed enough to make enough of a difference.

    Hik-Connect App vs. iVms 4500

No, the Windows version does not have that option, (wish it did ) On the left is a screenshot of the menu on the Windows phone version, and then the screen you see when pressing "Devices" then add a new device, and if you touch where it says "IP/Domain" on the new device page, it...

net neutrality vote, could this affect ip camera remote viewing ?

Also, not sure if it makes a big difference, but the download is usually less than about 3 minutes as opposed to if you streamed it live in real time for close to an hour.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Okay, thanks Roger, you can tell I am new at this stuff  I got some chores to do now, but I'll see about trying those settings you mentioned. Being a Noob I am leery that if I try anything that doesn't use a VPN that there is a high risk of getting hacked, but maybe I am being overly...

net neutrality vote, could this affect ip camera remote viewing ?

Interesting, I'm still learning about this stuff, but the ISPs Netflix uses does not charge Netflix for what they upload to the customer or are all the costs go to the download (streaming) to the customer ? (I might not be understanding this correctly)

Neat idea, anything that can both keep costs reasonable and reduce bandwidth sounds good !

    Hik-Connect App vs. iVms 4500

I'm new at this type of stuff on routers, but my router specs are - RT-ACRH13 | Networking | ASUS USA I has also downloaded Softether SoftEther VPN Project - SoftEther VPN Project and was trying to figure out how to set that up so I could connect to my windows phone, but still trying.

What outdoor security cameras are compatible with using Windows phones as a viewer ?

Okay, thanks, I appreciate the details, I go slow at this since it's new to me though. On this help page http://hikvisionusa.com/Techsupport/how%20to/Hik-Connect%20Data%20Sheet%20NA090517.pdf it says: "Avoid common ports by changing the default device ports and / or mapping different external...

net neutrality vote, could this affect ip camera remote viewing ?

Thanks, its good to hear the perspective you can offer from working for an ISP. Do you think a better option might be for the ISP to charge a fee to Netflix directly, then even if Netflix raises it's rates to it's customers to cover that, at least then it only affects Netflix subscribers and...

net neutrality vote, could this affect ip camera remote viewing ?

Thanks, I'm new at ip camera stuff, but if you would only very occasionally access a live feed remotely and even then for likely a minute or two at a time, that should not be anywhere as bad as a constant stream (I'm guessing as I'm new at this and assume there is only a stream when actually...

    Hik-Connect App vs. iVms 4500

Thanks, your response helped me to know what to research more, hopefully getting me closer to a solution  I meant to ask, do you use the iVMS-4500 app on a Windows phone ? The reason I ask is because the iVMS-4500 app for Windows phones is different from the iVMS-4500 versions for android...

Hi Roger, I was hoping you could check what settings you use in your windows phone for the iVMS-4500 app in hopes it might help my problem below - I have finally connected and powered my camera up (just in the house for now to get things set up before installing it outside) and so far I can...

    Hik-Connect App vs. iVms 4500

The iVMS-4500 on my windows phone does not list "HIK-CONNECT DOMAIN" as one of the "Register Mode" options, only options were these three: HiDDNS or IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER I do have a hik-connect account that gave me a 9 digit number. NOTE: I think just the android and the IOS versions of...

Thanks, just checked, the serial number is numbers only, no letters, just 9 numbers, and that label also has a date that said 06/2017 so I guess that is the date it was made. I guess I'll have to wait till I hook the camera up and turn it on for the first time before I can see what version...
