NVR firmware update limits PoE ports speed to 10Mbps?

If "bandwidth" is your concern: there is absolutely no issue to connect those "other" camera's to that (external) switch, and connect those through the LAN port of the NVR. The idea is indeed that each POE port connects to its own (single) IP camera, but if your NVR is (for example...

what else can i do to secure my network? any advice or tips

There have been camera's found that smart to spawn "generic" gateways addresses to "find" common router addresses... So I wouldn't secure your network by "obscurity"... Drop your cams into a vlan which is simply not routable, and you are safe.

    Hikvision NVR Notification settings

I don't have Hik, but in the DMSS (dahua) app, you can choose each and any type of notification (Motion Detect, IVS, or even video blind or network connection loss) PER camera on the NVR. Easy peasy. I suspect the same for Hik. Good luck! CC

dahua NVR, how to record general at lower quality and movement at high?

Never messed with a setup like this (why wouldn't you save all high quality footage anyway, TB disk costs nothing nowadays), but my guess is that you can fiddle with these settings: You could try to mark your main streams as "manual" (hence triggered by the IVS rules for example), but the...

what else can i do to secure my network? any advice or tips

Even with "wifi" cams, if you secure them in a Vlan which has absolutely no internet access at all, you are already a level higher in the security maturity scale. As long as your NIC in your laptop support vlan tagging 802.Q, it is already (virtually) serving two networks by the use of 1...

Proper Wiring Ubiquiti NanoStation NSM5 - Help Please

These nanostations should be "transparant" for the other networking devices (this in comparison to a router, which has a visible IP in the range of other devices and thus act as a visible networking device): traffic should be bridged across wherever source and destination lies. If the NVR does...

Proper Wiring Ubiquiti NanoStation NSM5 - Help Please

Hi @Captain_B: can you confirm you are plugging that red arrow into a POE port of the NVR? This means that the NVR needs to distribute a DHCP address to the camera (at the other side of the Nanostation). Which means: if your camera is already booted up (and was unable to get an IP address), then...

Dahua VTO2111D-WP-S1 Push Notification via DMSS

So, I'm guessing you have enforced an "outbound" blocking rule in your ISP firewall/router. 1. Login into that system 2. Goto firewall rules 3. Where you had opened port TCP/2195, now open TCP/8888 Off you go! CC

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

Oh, and for the ones diving into this topic in 2042: yes, OpenVPN is not safe anymore! Do not use it, you will be hacked! Use its backward compatible nephew called NPVnepO! Much safer :slap: </humor off> There is no such thing as "100% safe", or "100% availability". We are talking about...

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

Even then there are other (outbound) VPN tunneling contraptions possible, one easier than another. I've setup once, with one VPS a site2site VPN where the "difficult" LAN connected to that VPS. With enough bandwidth constraints, you connect your VPN Client to that VPS and hoppa, you are "at...

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

Which part is insecure? To start: what P2P actually does: it creates an outbound handshaked tunnel (encrypted) to China Capital. Secondly: not only you cannot see which information is sent out to the outside world, nor can you inspect the incoming traffic / commands / malicious code. Thirdly...

dahua nvr4208 8p not finding cameras on poe ports

There shouldn't be any difference between getting a DHCP from the NVR over POE than a DHCP from a router over a POE switch. My suggestion would indeed be: 1) enter a fixed IP in the cam whilst being on your home LAN: enter 10.1.1.200. 2) unplug from your home LAN and plug in port #2 (for...

Recommendations for 180 degree coverage security camera

I once compared bi-lenses domes with 2 single lens domes, huge difference. On the other hand, I personally like to overwatch the "other" cam with another cam (especially in crowded areas). It does require overlapping FOVs, but you get much closer viewing points: According to the size of the...
