Up here in the panhandle, I think we are gonna miss most of it. Stay safe down there!

Server/CPU recommendations for ESXi host for Blue Iris, Linux media/file/web server

If remote management is a sticking point, then used server hardware (Dell, HP, Supermicro) is going to be pretty much all you will be able to get. I’ve been running Proxmox for years off just consumer gear. BI runs great in a win 10 VM with only 6GB of RAM on Proxmox.

I wish Honda made a Tri fuel Gen. I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Would be a nice to have a backup portable but I don’t want to fool with gasoline.

Looking through my manual I'm wondering why Generac recommends using a 5w-30 synthetic for all temps nowadays in their air cooled generators. Seems like higher temps would need a thicker blend but that is not what they are recommending...

There is just so much Chinese junk on Amazon. I tend to stay away from most electronics on there unless they are brand name and it says it's sold by the actual manufacturer.

This seems to be more for people that don't have insurance. Their FAQ says they don't pay insurance deductibles and they also don't pay for anything insurance covers. I guess if one felt that insurance didn't meet their needs, this could make up the difference? I'll bookmark it for the...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I guess my question is, what is it for? People that don't have insurance? Deducible payout? I guess I need to read up on that. I should have checked into this during Hurricane Michael back in 2018. I've gotten SBA loans before via FEMA decades ago but have never used them for anything else.

Genmon fetches everything and sends it to the MQTT broker. Then Node Red -> InfluxDB -> Grafana. It has taken me longer to setup the dashboard than anything else! I had to run ethernet out to the generator for the Raspberry Pi to host genmon out there. Wifi just wasn't cutting it with the...

My Generac 24kW states in the manual if running continuously in ambient air at 85F, change the oil and filter every 100 hours. I’d do it at 100 hours regardless of the ambient temp like you say. It’s easy to do. The cost on a 30kW liquid cooled Kohler is gonna be big. Probably pushing...

Help me determine the power consumption of my cameras and video system

What do you pay per kWh? If you have more than 100w there I'd be surprised. Those cams use about 6w when they aren’t running IR. The DVR might use 50w.

Mine basically sounds like someone has parked a lawnmower outside and not moving it. So you can hear it, but it's not like it's terrible. Hell, people are always doing lawn work in a neighborhood so it blends right in. And during a power outage no one will care anyway since everyone else will...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

So are you wanting the transfer switch to wait longer before going to gen power? In the dealer menu you can configure that settings. Mine came with a 30 second delay which I thought was too long so I adjusted it to 5 seconds. We don't experience any brownouts here so a 5 second delay is fine...

Man it’s crazy to me you still don’t have power. That power utility deserves to be crucified in the media for performing this poorly on power restoration after such a small hurricane.

Go to Kohler or Generacs website and look up dealers in your area. Call them up and have them come out. I called half a dozen. Three answered and only two came out. Generac was about $3k cheaper so I went with them, The electrical company that did the work has been in the area for a couple...

Texas (Houston) must have some shitty power delivery or just a non-hardened power network in general. Here in PCB FL we laugh at Cat1s. All our wooden power poles have been replaced with concrete poles. It’s been ongoing for the last 5-6 years since Hurricane Michael. Maybe the power would be...

I looked into having a manual transfer switch installed on the outside of the house with a 50A inlet for portable generator use, but I ended up nixing the idea as I don't know if my wife would be able to set all that up if I wasn't around when power went out. It's a hell of a lot cheaper though...

    Natural Gas Generators

Damn that’s a pretty good deal. Did you contract out yourself? Generac 24kw is costing me $12k for everything. Plumber is coming out today to finish plumbing it up. The T version has a terrible minimum focus distance. I’m glad this post is here. I need to get around to modifying mine to see if I can shorten it.
