    Fine-Tuning & SAVING Focus

So I'm dialing in my second LPR, and trying to fine-tune the focus (Dahua 5241-Z12E) I discovered the funniest things: 1) Let's say my focus is set at 1400, and I want to improve my focus, so I log into the camera web interface, set the step control from 20 down to 5, and then I step the...

    Fatal Motorcycle Crash Video

Play with fire... You get what you ask for... You reap what you sough... Oh how many adages apply here. There are about 100 assholes in my neighborhood who arrange group rides every weekend, and come down the boulevard holding up traffic and riding wheelies all along the way. I have somebody...

I finally caught a killer with my LPR, sorta.

If that perp was in California, he'd be out already

    Sack Attack

Pizza2, Your nighttime video is incredibly clear...would you mind sharing your camera settings? I realize you do have some good lighting out there, but I'd be interested in improving my situation a bit, if at all possible. Thanks!

Nice. I'm on the south side. I think there are a handful of us Bay Area guys on here.

Hey big al, are you in San Jose? :) Or am I misreading your username? I'm in San Jose. Welcome.

Hikvision unable to keep stream running with Alexa Show 8

Hi guys, and to the OP, great to hear that your setup is working to your satisfaction. Since my interest to this point has mainly been Dahua cams and Blue Iris, I decided to poke around in some threads that don't even apply to me to learn a bit more and see what other people are doing. Can you...

Indeed! You know the feeling. I'm just getting my feet wet, but you all know how appreciative us newbs are ;)

    My foray into LPR

I wanted to add a couple things I learned...the older 1960's plates (yellow letters on black) and 1970-80's plates (yellow letters on blue) do NOT show up. I think we need the reflective for this all to work. Also, on trucks or vehicles with bumpers where the plate is inset, it can get...

    My foray into LPR

Man I’m jazzed!!! As some of you may have read, I’ve been saying in other threads that my first Z12E is coming. So I got it and popped it up on a wood fixture yesterday and was grabbing plates in no time! Daytime is easy, of course. But night fell upon me and I was lost in a black fog. So I...

What focuses out farther than an HFW5241E-Z12E?

Hi, yes, thanks guys! I had messaged Andy earlier and he replied. He's taking care of it! Woohooo! He's got his stash in HK ;)

What focuses out farther than an HFW5241E-Z12E?

Uggghhh, so bummed...went to buy another IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E and realized Andy just sold out! There were two there this morning. Now...GONE. None available until March! Is there anything that's even better? 2MP, but maybe sees farther?

    BBQ Time

Uninformed Assessment: based on the sequence, it looks like he walked out and then grabbed the tongs to turn the food, and then noticed that there might have been a flameout. Meanwhile, gas was filling the chamber, and then he hit the ignitor and BAMMM! He almost looks to have a grin on his...

Those are Chinese too, yeah? Do you mean because ShenZhen has never been implicated in backdoor scandals?

    La-Z-Boy, anyone?

The real kicker is, all you have to do in San Jose is call the garbage company and they come pick this junk up for FREE. Today was garbage day and my neighbor already rid himself of that ol' chair. Sheesh. I wanted to do like Mike ^^^ suggested, but my neighbor wanted to lay low. ;) It was...

Chap catches dog walker that doesn’t clean up after their dog

Just showed it to the girlfriend, we're rolling on the floor :lmao: There are a few losers in my neighborhood who are kind enough to bag it, then they leave the bag knotted up for the homeowner to retrieve...or else they stuff the bag in a nearby shrub :screwy:

I really gotta get working on my settings to try and crispen up my night shots. The first plate reader will be here Wednesday!

    La-Z-Boy, anyone?

2nd notable capture with my new system. Neighbor texts me around 10PM on the 1st. He asks me to check my cameras because some asshole just dumped a recliner chair in front of his house. Happy New Year? I jump at the opportunity to help my neighbor. Here's the loser coming, note the open...

Chap catches dog walker that doesn’t clean up after their dog

F***ing love it! I like how she tries to start mouthing off as if to call him out for calling her out, and he just keeps on shaming her at full volume! B*tch.

Clips and Archiving: desperate plea for help.

Thanks guys. Yes, I've read the Help file ad nauseum, but it's seemingly minimal info with no example images and I'm just not grasping it. But I will continue. Southern Yankee, yes, I've seen your allocation post in several threads and take it to heart. I will continue to try and put it to work.

    Near Miss!

DAMN! Major violation by that truck driver! WTF? Chick at work did that to me in the parking lot recently, I gunned it and minimized the damage to a swipe across my plastic bumper. I asked here "Where were you looking?" She says "To the left." Uggghhhhhh... Good luck with kitty!

Clips and Archiving: desperate plea for help.

I’m struggling mightily and need this topic dumbed way down, like with step-by-step pics in a tutorial or something. Perhaps screens of someone else’s folder structure would help. Of all the places I figured I’d run into trouble with BI, folder structure and archiving clips never even entered...

    Newly-deployed system already paying dividends!

Thank you, those are good details. I will work on those settings the next couple nights and report back! iframes matched: yes. And 264 w/Smart Codec off also...but I will have to verify the others, looking forward to more crispness. I'm also about to pull the trigger on a Z12E, so I'll have...

    Newly-deployed system already paying dividends!

Thanks. Those are Andy's IPC-HDW2231R-ZS (Starlight Varifocals). Mostly defaults but after a couple days I did have to force Cam1 to color. The daytime shots are astonishing, as you know. I can freeze vehicles speeding by and count the lug nuts or read the phone numbers on the side panels...

    Newly-deployed system already paying dividends!

So after talking with friends and neighbors, I hatch a plan: I’m collecting everything errrrrly the next morning (which was this morning) and taking all the shit back and dumping it in their driveway. Get this: all gloved up and going to grab the spackle pail, there’s a bunch of shit right...

    Newly-deployed system already paying dividends!

So after prepping since January of 2020 (and snoozing for a year and a half), I’ve finally got a system up-and-running. I’ve still got some tweaks to make and will be posting accordingly for help soon. However, living on fairly quiet street, I am amazed at how soon I captured some valuable...
