What, no Tomato on the poll list?

Frame rate keeps dropping to 10 fps

Yup, get off WiFi. Also agree with Fenderman that 30fps is way overkill. I never go over 10 for any of my cameras and that's more than enough IMO.

Next best thing under 100$ to Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

For cheap, these are a good option: DaHua IPC-HFW1320S 3MP Mini Bullet IP Camera IR CCTV POE IP67 Security Camera They're loaded with English firmware and the firmware is upgradeable. Of course, these won't touch a Starlight in regards to performance.

    Condensation in the dome

Domes are definitely the worst for outdoors. As nayr says, replace them with turrets.

The Starlight varifocals running on a PC with Blue Iris gets my vote.

Is Blue Iris a "One stop shop"?

No Signal - Signal dropped from Nest cams with Blue Iris

Another option is to sell the Nestcams and get some good Dahua cameras.

Any recommendations on free Windows NVR software?

Milestone XProtect Essential if probably your best bet. Another option is Netcam Studio which is pretty easy to setup and allows 2 cameras for free.

Help: Newbie who got hacked through hikvision

VPN is the way to go. If you have a NAS, it likely has a package for OpenVPN making setup pretty easy or a router with DD-WRT also has it built in.

    Xprotect 2017 R1

    Yes, 2017 R1.

    Milestone cs blueiris

Having played with the new version of XProtect Essential, it definitely beats BI when it comes to CPU usage even with motion detection engaged. However, BI has way more options and its mobile app is far smoother.

    Xprotect 2017 R1

Installed the newest Milestone and have been messing with the past few days. It's largely the same in terms of features, but I did notice some glitches were fixed. For example, in the previous version the mobile server wouldn't start automatically by default and I often had a hard time getting...

    4MP using H.265 codec

Same here. My dad has a Dahua bullet using the 265 codec and no issues so far in BI.

Reolink decided not to add iFrame interval because it'll cause issues for "some people".

Dahua are definitely the better camera and value these days, but I too like to mess around and that's what I did some time ago and ended up not bothering to replace my Reos.

Port Forwarding is Perfectly Safe... Wait, What...

Folks can just get an inexpensive NAS like a Synology or QNAP and OpenVPN into it. NAS have measures to protect against these sorts of attacks.

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

Thanks, but have used Vera and it's in the same club as Smartthings IMO. Was thinking more like Homeseer, Domoticz, Homeassistant, etc., but they all seems to take having to manually change config files and code. I can do this, but tired of doing so and looking for a DIY that doesn't require...

    Reolink - good & bad

I use Blue Iris so not sure about the software as I use the web interface for configuration. Make sure you disable UID and UPnP on the cameras. Also block them at the router if possible or setup a vlan which are always good measures with IP cameras.

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

Thanks for this suggestion. Talk about easy setting things up through SmartRules. Any DIY solutions that are this simple? My days of editing config files and compiling kernels are over.

Need help with ReoLink Cameras and new Blue Iris Upate - Low FPS

There are some posts in the IP Camera section about suppliers. I've seen quite a few Dahuas on Aliexpress selling for under $100 like the 4421 bullet and others.

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

I may have to check out some other options as it has been a while Will check out Domoticz, but also HomeSeer and Indigo (Mac).

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

I never had my lights go on and off randomly, but ST does display annoying glitches every so often. Have thought about checking Domo out. I'll check out SmartRules, thanks.

PC with Blue Iris or NVR? Which one to choose for 24/7 recording?

Would take PC over NVR every time; more flexibility and options. Plus, NVRs depend on motion detection by the camera which almost always sucks. As others have mentioned, go with a Skylake i5 and Blue Iris and don't look back.

Need help with ReoLink Cameras and new Blue Iris Upate - Low FPS

You can get Dahua for a similar price these days; they're the best bet right now for folks just getting started IMO. I got my Reolinks on sale and thought what the heck. Haven't seen the need to replace them as they work fine, but just a matter of time before 10mp cameras are selling for $100...

the new secret weapon : FI9928P

Wifi is the worst for cameras due to reliability. As for security, wired cameras are just as vulnerable as anyone can just cut the cable sticking out the back or take a bat to the camera if they're placed too low.

    Xeoma VMS Surveillance Software

Thanks, good to know. For Macs, I've had good luck with Security Spy and Windows, Blue Iris of course, but also XProtect and Netcam Studio, but hadn't come across anything decent on Linux.

Need help with ReoLink Cameras and new Blue Iris Upate - Low FPS

Are you running these over wireless or hardwire? Try changing your bitrate to 4096 and see if that makes a difference. Mine work perfectly, but maybe I'm just lucky.

Reolink decided not to add iFrame interval because it'll cause issues for "some people".

Because they don't search. You still have to turn off 3D NR and raise the buffer to 20MB for Reos to work in BI.
