Whelp... it finally happened to me

maybe consider laser lines? This model works great for me. Laser line My photo beam/laser line is 30' long, about 3ft above ground. (it will go to almost 100'). It'd high enough that cats don't trip it, but it trips for coyotes (my intention). I also have the Bosch tritec. Great device to...

    Power adapter for POE camera

Arnonz, the Splitter I was referring to "splits" the poe ethernet into a) ethernet and b) power. If you want to support two cams on one cable, you can separate the 8 conductors into two sets of 4. This will support two 100Mb cams. Several posts on this. See...

    Power adapter for POE camera

The comments here did NOT touch on another benefit of having the power plug on a pigtail to a poe comaera. Microphone! At the camera, a powered mic is needed. A separate powered mic is usually preferrable even if the cam has a built in mic. Generally, the built-in mic doens't pick up audio...

Amazon drivers are using our driveway to 'break in' their new vans...

The driver didn't feather the gas at all, even when leaving after the accident. Left divots everywhere. And didn't fill his divots when standing next to hem w/ cell phone. A cretin! Maybe the company will download the contents of the black box. Assuming it records spinning tire events and...

Looking to add an alarm to Dahua NVR but have no experience with this.

That looks like half of the connector. The terminal block portion is missing. The terminal block is easily removed. It's a snap fit to the back of the NVR. It has screws to tighten onto your cable's conductor. No need to crimp on pins to connect to NVR. This is my experience, for my Dahua...

    Alexa/Google Home integration

Sounds like good news! A bit convoluted (as mine hack is), but it works. If smartthings recognizes the event from IFTTT, and is turning on the light, maybe Alexa could recognize the same event. And then fire off a routine that includes Alexa making an announcement. Good luck! Fastb

    Alexa/Google Home integration

If I understand your question, a few thoughts. 1) I have two smartthings Motion Detectors. For indoors, they're fine. 2) for outdoors, IVS is superior to MD. The challenge in my mind was: The NVR must inform Alexa/Google of an IVS event (not an MD event). Ah, I understand better! Use the...

    Alexa/Google Home integration

Therein lies the rub. Using a door sensor on the NVR Alarm Out is a hack. Effective, but hackey. Having Alexa announce "Driveway Guest!" is worth it. And Alexa knows if I'm home (due to my cell phone's location tracking). Alexa responds accordingly (like pushing an alert to my phone)

    Alexa/Google Home integration

You didn't mention if using BI or an NVR. On my NVR, I use one of the "Alarm Out" relay contacts. I have it wired, 6" away, to a wireless door sensor that's on Zigbee, Z Wave or WiFi. (I forget the rf protocol right now.) Note: This door sensor approach is a common way for people to signal...

Looking to add an alarm to Dahua NVR but have no experience with this.

The "Alarm" signal is a dry contact. The alarm pin will be open (float) or will be connected to ground. This signal can control a seperate alarm. Don't assume the "Alarm" can drive a speaker, that would be a completely seperate kind of thing. The Alarm In signal the NVR expects is similar...

Bike Rider Has A Close Call

This is a very common complaint from drivers. Note: In this video, the cyclist blasted through the stop sign, after not looking for traffic. The opposite of rolling through a stop sign after looking both ways. So I'm not defending this particular cyclist. Yes, many cyclists merely slow down...

    Camera Trigger Sprinkler System?

Any camera's image processing to generate an "event" may not measure up to a PIR. I had problems with deer grazing in my garden. I used a driveway motion detector floodlight, and adapted. As typical, mounted in a outdoor junction box. But not attached to a house. Two AC cords connected. 1...

    Ring Camera At Gas Station

Tony, Good comments. You mention the card reader and keypad are low voltage devices. The voltage, by itself, doesn't allow devices to skirt the Intrinsic Safe (IS) regulations. I participated in several IS product designs. Products had to withstand two simultaneous failures without causing...

    Ring Camera At Gas Station

"Intrinsic Safe" (IS) is complicated. Varies for dust, vapors. And types of. And concentrations. At gas stations, the higher above ground, the less if an IS rating. Since those vapors sink. In gas pumps, with mag readers, keypads, even high voltage CRT screens, those items don't need an IS...

Whats the simpliest or easiest way to have a 20m CCTV LCD Monitor in house?

I have an small, older PC in my kitchen (on the first floor) to view cams from my NVR that is located on the 2nd floor. I use a WiFi router to: a) connect the wired cams to the NVR (to keep cams off my main network of PCs, TV, Stereo, printer, etc). b) provide WiFi so I can connect the above...

PSA: Now is not the time to trespass

If your neighbors have teenagers, that could be the source. You mention "taking a shortcut". Then they're likely not dangerous bad guys, maybe just lazy neighbors? But if a shortcut, maybe set up some IVS rules (if your cams support that). Or set up a string, which will indicate the direction...
