Yes. This should be explained in the BI docs.

Board Type IMX 178 or IMX 185

I've owned and used both and they're both awesome, it just depends on what you want. 185 is better with light, 178 is higher res. Attached are the Texas stars through my 185. Waning gibbous, camera is due east. I can see the bright stars once my eyes adjust, but the dimmer ones can't be seen...

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

Can anybody confirm the lens mounting used for the cantonk S500? Not sure if it's CS, M12, or M14. Seems like they're all using 3.6mm board lenses. This cam would mop the floor with an 8MM CS F1.4 with offboard IR.

    $69 motorized varifocal 4x (2.8mm-12mm) Longse

@klasipca - putty caches commands in the terminal, if you still have it open you can use the up and down arrow keys to go backward and forward, respectively, through your command history to recreate his l33t steps

    $69 motorized varifocal 4x (2.8mm-12mm) Longse

@klasipca - I might be interested in your brick'd IMX124 IPC + S2L if you're interested in selling it (depending on what you wanted for it). PM me if interested in selling part or the whole shell. Got a few modules that need homes and wouldn't mind taking a crack at saving the ship with a FW flash

    $69 motorized varifocal 4x (2.8mm-12mm) Longse

@klasipca - maybe I missed the link, but I meant to ask for a totally non-IR'd, nighttime image with the IMX124. Here's an equivalent shot with my super-poopypants OV9712. Thanks for the help and great review.

    $69 motorized varifocal 4x (2.8mm-12mm) Longse

Thanks for posting @klasipca - I'd be curious to see how the IMX124 sensor does with no IR in a night scene if you'd be so inclined. Curious to see what the starvis tech is capable of in a naturally lit scene.

What IR illuminator would be best?

Interesting - thanks. I'm surprised that I can't seem to find cameras geared toward the 940nm spectrum. You'd think they'd align light source, lens characteristics, and CMOS sensitivity... :stupid:

What IR illuminator would be best?

Anybody running 940nm IR + cams? That's the invisible ('no glow') spectrum. Seems like everybody's standardized on 850nm spectrum (red glow) for cameras.

What IR illuminator would be best?

I ordered one of these in a 15 degree angle. I've got a 12/25mm F1.0 1/2" sensor homebuilt rig I'm putting together for chokepoint ID & LPR use (maybe, we'll see). I'll let you know how it goes. I'm sold on IR, personally. I think if people talked IR as much as they do about cameras on this...

    Alibaba NVR

Thanks - has anybody had experience actually writing data via usb and/or sata? I personally use blue iris right now, but for something that doesn't take the power, noise, and cost of an i7 machine I think this could be a reasonable substitute in a less than mission critical application. You...

    Alibaba NVR

Anybody used this? Forgive me if I'm duplicating; couldn't find another post. Looks incredibly sketchy, doesn't support motion detection (yet - ha, we'll see if that ever happens), and is probably riddled with security holes; but it's $30 and consumes < 10W, sans hard drive. Looks like it...

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

@alastairstevenson - the difference in focal length is small, but noticeable. Certainly not big enough of a deal to explain what is happening with @hamsoplo's rig, but I brought it up as an aside more than anything. I believe the technical term for what I'm trying to explain is chromatic...

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

@hamsoplo - it looks to be a focus issue. I've found that with fixed focus cameras like the longse you have, the focal distance is slightly different for NV than daylight, I'm guessing due to the difference in the wavelength/spectrum. Making one sharp will compromise the other. There is where an...

How to: Standalone (headless; no NVR) Huisun Mini-PTZ installation

@ericandor I believe so, but I don't have a v2 to verify this process is transferrable. Check out the v2 thread, and be sure to verify with the supplier prior to ordering.

Understanding PoE modules and how to connect them to cameras

@Kamalas: http://m.aliexpress.com/item/1565857088.html That cable pulls the necessary wires off the ethernet cable and brings them to terminal blocks which then plug into your poe module. Then your poe module via another set of wires/terminal blocks feeds the necessary data and power into...

how to give mainstream for record and substream for live view on BI

@fenderman - I haven't messed around with it that much, but the idea is to not be processing the 720 stream at all until the 360P (substream) triggers it. I should be able to verify this through my switch traffic but haven't yet. Agreed it's not that big of a deal for my i7 server, but my a)...

how to give mainstream for record and substream for live view on BI

Thread resurrection over here, I know, but I had this same question and found an answer. BI (at least for the cam I have which is a terrible $18 OV9712 1MP cam) will default upon auto-detect to /mpeg4 as a path, which is the main stream. It records, as well as gives live view/matrix display...

    Just got burgled . . .

@Sully - here's the PIR sensor I use. It has about a 10ft semi-circle read range and works very well. Wires up to 120VAC so you'd have to figure out power + relays if you wanted dry contacts or a low voltage solution (i.e. external trigger for a camera). Right now I just have it powering some...

    IR Illuminator Location

@fmflex - you may want to consider something like this. I personally haven't used it, but I'm all about investing a little extra for a setup tool to dial in the spec. I'm probably going to order one (or something like it) to get the luminosity and angle dialed in, and then parlay the spec into a...

    Just got burgled . . .

@Sully - sorry to hear you got burgl'd dude. Just to put in my two cents, I'd say don't over-invest up-front. Knowing how to set up angles, lenses, lighting, NVRs is an art. It takes a lot of experience, patience, experimentation, etc. A mistake I find myself making (I'm sure there are others...

Wireless PIR sensor to alarm input IP Camera?

I just picked up a 120vac PIR for a diy garage light. I'm planning on using it for additional IR for the cams eventually. For the one I have, you'll need a relay to get to low voltage or dry contacts. I'm planning on doing that soon, I'll let you know how it goes.

Camera Proxy application to unify and secure your IP camera live-viewing

In C#! I've done something similar in the mono framework on a raspberry pi, I bet it'd be a perfect platform for this if you wanted to run (fairly) headless jpeg/mpeg. This is awesome, thanks for open sourcing and sharing!

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

@smiticans - try messing with offboard IR. I took my mini PTZ, maxed out the far LEDs and then took them for a spin onto the scene of the S500 to see what would happen. Sure enough, even far away stuff (for a 3.6mm lens) became significantly clearer. Here's a video that illustrates the idea...

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

Glad you like it @smiticans! Yeah the S500 IMX178 sensor really kicks butt, I really wanted to mess around with off-board IR but just didn't have time. I remember when I plugged it in, my totally uninitiated wife remarked at how sharp the image was. I had it running into BI for a few days and...

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

@smiticans - I've got a 3.6mm/poe version I may be interested in selling if you're looking for one, just shoot me a PM. I like the S500 camera a lot but I think I'm going to standardize on the 5-50mm huisun ptz for my installation instead as it's more flexible in deployment.

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

@NIPSZX - looks like the unit I have will do H.265 according to the menus. When I use the option it continues to display via the camera's web interface, however I can't verify that because it appears blue iris does not decode H.265 so BI reports a no cam signal error. HTH

5 MegaGixel 1/1.8" low light destroyer for $90-AVOID LONGSE JUNK

I actually mounted my huisun PTZ and IMX178 near each other and used the PTZ as an artificial IR illuminator for the IMX178. I can quickly tell that this IMX178/longse camera is likely a case of 'great sensor/poor illuminator' as when I use the PTZ to shoot light far away within the IMX178...
