Foscam FI9831W not connecting after power outage and making strange noise

I would not recommend Foscam. Keep trying to reset it. You have to make sure the paperclip stays on the reset button. Watch the lights in the back. You'll know when you've got it to reset. Its best to configure via ethernet.

    NVR default gateway! !!

The modem/router IP appears to be the WAN IP not the LAN IP. If you're using a Windows PC, you can open a Command Prompt andt type ipconfig. That will give you the IP of your router (gateway).

Should my switch be able to handle these cams?

Default mode is Classification, this mode allocates a set amount of power to that device. Consumption will only provide power per how much the powered device needs.

Should my switch be able to handle these cams?

I did a quick search and it looks like some switchspes allocate power based on what the cameras are reporting via LLDP. There is a setting in the switch where you can change the PoE mode to Consumption.

My ISP does not support VPN - alternate way to view my ipc remotely?

Is the IP address for your NVR static? While I agree there are vulnerabilities with port forwarding, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. What performance issues are you referring to, the video drop? Could it be an IP issue?

Eh, just port forward to your NVR.

My ISP does not support VPN - alternate way to view my ipc remotely?

This is definitely an option but what this does is creates a remote desktop to a PC (or laptop) at your house. Jump Desktop is what I use. The only caveat is that you don't use a mobile app to view your cameras. You basically are using the PC from your phone. These tend to be a little clunky as...

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

So you're just using all that equipment to view at your house, correct? Is there really a need for the NVR and other camera related stuff to be connected to the internet?

Well, then that's probably your problem. Where is the gateway/router and who owns it?

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

Bare with me. I need to know if the boxes (Asus and other routers) are all connected to each other by physical cables. If so, the choosing "Repeater mode" on the Asus is incorrect. In your primary router (possibly from your ISP and possibly combined with your modem), in the setup there is a...

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

What is the DHCP range in your primary router? It needs to be something like 192.168.1.20 - 192.168.1.70. Also, when you say repeater, do you mean they are connected wirelessly?

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

You really need to correct the static IP issue first. It may not fix your problem but if you have the static IPs set within the DHCP range, it's incorrect. Depending on the router you have, it would probably be easier to use DHCP reservation as you can use the IPs that are already set...

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

Well, you need to set the static IP addresses outside the DHCP range or you may get an IP conflict. This is why I generally recommend DHCP reservation.

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

It shouldn't make any difference. Are your static IPs outside the DHCP range?

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

Did you simultaneously switch the hardware and the connections? If you go back to the "old" connection order, does that resolve things? How are the cameras connected to the POE switch getting their IPs?
  23. T

Better to connect NVR to Router or POE Switch?

Understand that the cameras connected to the POE switch are getting IP addresses and routing info from your router. While I doubt it makes a huge difference, my preference it to connect the NVR and the POE switch directly to the router, if possible.

    Cable route Suggestions

Is the NVR in the same place as the main router? I'd probably put a switch in the garage and just run one cable from your router or another switch on the network to the garage and then branch according to your plan.
