Are there any particular issues with those switches or is it mainly a security concern? If it is security could I just put them on a VLAN (routed through my other switch). I do have them integrated into a HomeSeer home automation system, though so I am not sure how this would work if I have a...
That is one of my concerns because I don't know the specs of the original fan. My concern isn't really about the cost of the Trendnet TPE-S160 breaking down (I was thinking of replacing it anyways). The bigger issue is the downtime and having to buy a new switch in a hurry (and pay extra). I...
Well, I don't turn on the heater for the equipment room but for the house. But then the equipment room also gets some of that heat. And if I close the door it gets even hotter as the hot air (from the stuff inside) can't escape. I have a couple of outlets in the door but it doesn't help much.
If it goes below 20C I turn on the heater and the "equipment room" (tiny, just below the stairs) is some 5-8 degrees Celsius hotter so 25 to 28 (about 77 to 82). That is were the switch is located. My wife used to go to the "equipment room" to warm up... She calls it the sauna. Maybe that is why...
I looked at fans before and I think those were Noctua as @tangent suggested. It's not exactly easy to find a replacement fan, though. Size is the easiest part (45mm from screw to screw) but there is voltage (probably 12V), required cfm, 2/3/4 pin connector, connector style, etc. Google isn't...
We currently have a Trendnet TPE-S160 PoE switch which has a fan that is always running. I considered replacing the fan with a quieter model but I would prefer the replace it with no fan at all. I did quite a big of research but couldn't find anything great. It will go into a rack so it should...
I installed a second cam this weekend using this adaptor. I can see both PoE cams in BI and has been working fine so far. We will see how long it lasts as it is outdoors. I am thinking of getting a second one instead of those "protected/outdoor" versions that cost like 3x.
@TonyR thanks for pointing this out. I guess I can't rotate the image without reducing the resolution which I don't want to do.
Just to be clear, I rotate the lens on the cam so I have a portrait view instead of the default landscape view. But then the image shows up rotated so I tried to...
I made the mistake of choosing cams with a too wide angle (mostly 4mm, I think) which as of now are only good for the back to see where our dog is. I am in the process of adding better cams with better sensitivity and narrower angle which is why I like the varifocal 5224. So would a 6mm 5449...
I have a IPC-HDW5842T-ZE-S2. When I go to the web interface of the cam and to Camera->Conditions->Picture and I try to set Flip to 90 I get an error "current resolution does not support this function". Does that mean the 5842 cannot rotate an image?
Andy on his AE page mentions "Remember that the 2 lenses have to converge so higher and further away leads to loss of detail due to the fringing of the spliced images. Therefore to retain quality of target details go in the middle (7 - 7.5ft high) and with distance to target around 6.5ft - 10ft...
Clearly, being on the ground won't cut it. See the attachment. You can't even see the street anymore. Apparently you have to adjust the cam so there is nothing close to what you want to focus on (the license plates on the street). Having said that, that position was never meant to be the real...
Where do I adjust the zoom for a IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E? I looked at the manual and it is supposedly under Setting->Camera->Conditions->Conditions (not sure where that is)-> ZoomFocus. I don't see such a menu. Please see the attachments.
@TonyR Indeed, as you said in post #5, the patch panel is T-568A. And as you said in post #12 it was my understanding that in the USA we usually use T-568B. So I wired the camera end to T568B (not because of your post but because of what I read up before) while on the patch panel I followed what...
It's too late for us now to run fiber but doesn't that add a lot of cost? Fiber cable might not be expensive. However, your regular (residential) router has an Ethernet output feeding into Ethernet patch panels and Ethernet switch. So you would need a direct fiber from your modem and then some...
Thanks, I just posted in the thread about that camera. It looks like that is what I should have gotten. It's not all bad, though. In the front we have pretty good illumination throughout the night so the 5842 might still be an ok choice. The side don't have good lightning so maybe I will get one...
Most people here seem to recommend the 5442. But (mostly) based on this thread and others it seems the IPC-T5449H-ASE-D2 would be a better choice. So why is the 5442 still recommended so much? The only two things I can think of is price and varifocal capability. Am I missing something?
I was reading up on some other stuff and came across the IPC-T5449H-ASE-D2. So I checked this forum. Maybe I should have bought this cam instead of the 5842. Looks pretty impressive compared to the 5442 and probably even more impressive compared to the 5842.
It is a CableMatters but I don't know the model. Maybe E188100 (based on the picture). Anyways, now that I look at some unused ports (again, see attached image) it seems the pins are not in sequence. They are 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 5, 4.
I am not a networking person but from all my research before remodeling our home the majority of people said to stay with unshielded for security cameras (long story so I just keep it at this). So all of our security cameras are using unshielded cables. All the cables for the Ethernet ports in...
I have an IP camera that I want to use for license plate recognition. So I put a new Ethernet cable into the patch panel and created my own Ethernet connector on the other side of the cable which connects to the camera. However, I cannot see the camera using SADPTool (for testing I am using a...
I decided to buy one of the 5842 to see how it compares to the 5442. Based on that I will replace or augment the rest of the cams. We have LED lights on all night long so I am hoping that the 5842 will perform similarly to the 5442.
How do those numbers like 5442 and 5842 translate to Dahua numbers like N85DJ6Z, A82AH5V, etc (see attachment)?
I used the camera selector on the Dahua website and the only turret cameras (they seem to call them eyeball cameras) that came up were 4k cams, i.e. nothing like the 5442...
My wife actually works for a company that uses face recognition to enter the "employee only" area. It works pretty well. But it's probably pretty expensive. The photo archiving program I use does indeed need a bunch of faces to recognize them and even then it gets them wrong sometimes. It is...
This is kind of over my budget but it is 8k (not that I care too much about that) and F1.4 (SOUNDS better than the 1.8), varifocal (2.8-12mm), turret, PoE

This might be some science fiction stuff but can or is BI planning to do some dog face recognition? I use a photo archiving program that is pretty good doing face recognition for people. Actually it can even recognize our dog sometimes but I don't think that was their intention. Anyways, this...
