Wow. That's a cool idea for a fountain. Little recirc pump in the bucket. You'd get people's attention.

New IP8M-2779EW-AI - strange non moving white specks on night vision or low light situations

Consider putting some low voltage landscape lights around. Even 1 watt led lights will make the camera's job significantly easier. Having your house lit up also makes it less attractive to burgars. I've heard cops say the best thing you can do is get rid of bushes near the house, second best...

    Spot Monitors Via Network

This one is several years old, maybe seven or eight. Weird how they sell them as a machine that does it all, and then they tie it up so it doesn't do what people might normally want. I have the same issue with Amazon Fire products.

    Spot Monitors Via Network

I got curious thinking about whether a smart tv would work as a stand-alone monitor. I have an older Samsung "smart TV." It shows definite signs of senility, being slow, crochety and reluctant to try unknown programs. I had put it aside because I couldn't load any programs that weren't on the...

    Spot Monitors Via Network

If a big screen is required, maybe a smart tv would work. The catch is that they often have very restricted internet abilities. You'd want to try it before you buy it.

Yes, right. This Lenovo is pretty slow, too. I forget the specs, but not great. Good enough to use as a security monitor, though.

    Spot Monitors Via Network

Someone recently gave me what they thought was a monitor, but was actually an all-in-one computer. I know Lenovo, HP and Dell make them. It looks just like a monitor, but is actually a workstation. Sort of like an imac, but very basic in terms of computing power.

I don't know if Firestick lets you run general Linux stuff, but I use CCTV-Viewer in Ubuntu. Just monitoring, no recording. https://github.com/iEvgeny/cctv-viewer

    Spot Monitors Via Network

I used to have a set of wireless HDMI transceivers. Chances are they're in a box somewhere in my garage. They are meant for people with a lot of home theater gear that don't want to junk up their living room with gear and wires. As I recall, they worked ok, but had some latency. I think I...

Help me piece out a system

There will always be another sale. Along the DORI line of thought, for each main approach to your house (i.e. not the side yards, where you have a neighbor house close by), you want an overview camera, for which I like the Dahua Color4k-t, which gives me a 180 degree view, and sees...

    Osiring NVR "forgetting" camera password

Something's making them reboot? Maybe power them on 12v adapters of at least 2 amps. That might tell you the POE is faulty. Also try hooking to router instead of nvr, and see if they reboot. poE

Looking for a new graphics card for codeproject AI

GTX1080ti is still pretty high in the rankings, despite being about ten years old. Mine was an MSI brand. Used for video editing for many years, it is now handling 7 hd cameras through OBS and live streaming a church service every Sunday.

Yeah, they default to 192.168.1.108, so if something caused them to reboot, that's where to look.

    Osiring NVR "forgetting" camera password

Again, not to be a shill, but the Security Scanner app also reports the manufacturer info for the devices it finds, if available. So it tells you if the device you're looking at is a Dahua camera, because Dahua includes that info in the ping response.

    Osiring NVR "forgetting" camera password

They should. I sometimes have the problem that some of them show up but won't be edited, but they do appear. Other workarounds besides Pale Moon include an Internet Explorer mode in Edge, and a plugin in Chrome. I am able to get into my cameras from Chrome, but I can't see the actual views and...

    Osiring NVR "forgetting" camera password

Actually, your router (probably 192.168.1.1) may tell you where the camera is. But it won't if the camera defaults to a different subnet, in which case you'll need something like the Security Scanner.

    Osiring NVR "forgetting" camera password

I'd plug the camera directly into the switch and bypass the NVR to do the programming. Try 192.168.1.108, which is the default IP address for Dahua cameras. If that doesn't work, use a program like Securityscanner – All in one scanner to find the camera on your network. Older Dahua cameras...

    Osiring NVR "forgetting" camera password

One of the things you'll discover is that Chinese IP products have firmware quirks. I've also had problems setting passwords on the Dahua IPConfig tool. Fortunately, you can log into the cameras directly using a web browser. There are some issues there too. Dahua built the cameras to...

There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you memorize the number 192.168.x.x it gets easier. Power over Ethernet has made cabling pretty simple. Unless you've in a hurry, spend some time reading and thinking and reviewing product specs. You'll find it pretty interesting/entertaining, I bet.

Is this the best set out for my current needs?

I'd suggest getting one camera you know you're going to need somewhere, say a 5442 with a 3.6 lens, a POE switch, some cat5e or cat6, and start trying it in all the places you think you want a camera. If you find it is a good match except the field of view is too narrow, order a 5442 with a...

Possibly the vendor can get you an update. But do you need to update? Be careful because Dahua has been known to remove features with updates.

You might find you get sucked in. You'll get excited thinking about all the places you can run cable, and how to trigger ever-more-elaborate Rube Goldberg devices when an intruder crosses the line. Don't laugh--it happens.

Is this the best set out for my current needs?

I have had people back off from white deterrence lights twice and ignore them once. The successes were at night, the fail was in the day. 2 way talk is a semi-gimmick. In addition to the points made above, when things happen, it is usually at night when good people like you are asleep. You'd...
