Hikvision Firmware Upgrade Problems or Not?

@DilbertDonald LTS is right that 'LTS' branded products are Hikvision but LTS branded products are not supported directly by Hikvision USA; that's one of the tradeoffs of the general lower price LTS offers for their branded versions

Hikvision Firmware Upgrade Problems or Not?

@DilbertDonald do you mean support by Hikvision USA? LTS sells LTS branded products that only LTS supports and Hikvision branded products that both LTS and Hikvision can support. Did LTS represent otherwise to you or?

    How is Dahua pronounced?

Dahua actually did a video of this a while back:

    Hacked Dahua cams with NVR5216-16P-4KS2E

By 'hacked' do you mean changed from Chinese to English language firmware or do you mean exploited by a vulnerability in the device?

Will All cameras eventually get AI Firmware Upgrades?

It's a good question and it's possible, as Wyze has shown with their xnor.ai partnership. Whether it will happen, I am not sure. On the plus side, Wyze's success here (we tested it and it worked well) puts pressure on all the professional manufacturers. Simply based on past history, most will...

Half-Decent Youtube review of a bunch of wired IP cameras

I only scanned through the video briefly, so I cannot opine on the quality of the test. One area where Reolink is almost certainly #1 is commissions to affiliates like this YouTuber. From an unsolicited Reolink message to us a few years ago: I am writing to see if you would like to cooperate...

    256GB SD Card: It Works

To be clear, the issue is not whether it will work at all but whether it will work reliably over time. I am not saying it will not but there has definitely been a high rate of reported problems over the last few years across various camera manufacturers.

    What's the real scoop?

Is there such a thing as more or less trusted manufacturers?

Curious about Dahua's new AI ipcam lineup

For the Myriad 2 and the newer Myriad X, Intel makes Neural Compute Sticks that make it easy to try out. They are ~$100 for the USB devices, reference Intel® Movidius™ Neural Compute Stick

Curious about Dahua's new AI ipcam lineup

We've not seen Dahua share any specific lower level technical details and Dahua offers a variety of cameras. That said, for those lower-cost Dahua 'AI' cameras (say $500 or less), I doubt they are using anything like YOLO or Tensorflow, etc., mainly because the processing required and the cost...

anybody can access hikivision chinese website from usa?

Yes, it works for me when I use a VPN to connect inside of China. I assume isitdownforrightnow is assuming non-China use, which is generally reasonable except for China specific sites. For example, here is the main news on cethik.com, Hikvision's Chairman Chen Zongnian celebrating the 98th...

anybody can access hikivision chinese website from usa?

Generally, that works. However, for China sites, due to the Great Firewall, it does not always report correctly. For example, Hikvision is owned by the Chinese government. The government entity that runs it is CETHIK (for CETC Hikvision). Its website ishttp://cethik.com. Isitdownrightnow...

anybody can access hikivision chinese website from usa?

Update: Hikvision's China website is now working, even accessible in the US http://www1.hikvision.com Why or how it could be broken for over a week is still puzzling to me.

    How SD card recordings work?

But running SD cards in cameras is significantly far more demanding than regular consumer use cases. These cards are written far more frequently in video surveillance and the cards are often placed in more environmentally challenging areas. For example, both Axis and Hikvision re-brand / spec...

anybody can access hikivision chinese website from usa?

Update: Now, the Hikvison China website is returning a 404 error message code, while last week it was returning 'site can't be reached'. This is the same from both the US and VPNing inside of China. Why the Hikvision China website continues not to work is strange.

anybody can access hikivision chinese website from usa?

It's funny you should ask because we have had the same question. The Hikvision Chinese website has been down for days. We VPNed into China and it's down inside of China as well. We also confirmed with Chinese contacts that they cannot access inside China. We emailed Hikvision corporate on...

Implications of US ban on Hikvision & Dahua

The ban directly impacts federal government agencies plus those organizations using federal money (grants or loans). There is a second element of the ban (technically NDAA 889) that would effectively blacklist any company who sold or used Dahua, Hikvision or Huawei from selling to the federal...

If there's a IP camera with embedded VPN support

SAST says first releases by the end of 2019. I would think that there would be a few models by then but, even if they are released, the big questions are: (1) How many models? We hear manufacturers starting with just a few, rather than the whole line. (2) Which manufacturers will be in? So far...

If there's a IP camera with embedded VPN support

I don't know of any currently but the forthcoming SAST platform to be run on various IP cameras (Android + app store for IP cameras) would likely have that.

Anyone tried Security Camera Warehouse (SCW) NVRs and Cameras?

Because if a vulnerability is found in the future, that device will be easy pickings as it is publicly accessible, may be indexed by Shodan, etc.

Any predicted impact of 25% Tariff?

Discussed here Tariffs and Dahua From what we hear, some are already planning to raise prices (e.g., LTS, Bollide), others are waiting to see as they have inventory in stock for months, some may be planning to eat the cost and there is some discussion of moving manufacturing to other countries...

    Tariffs and Dahua

Now that there are a new round of tariffs, just checking back to see if anyone is seeing any impact. For example, LTS has been telling customers that they expect to raise prices due to the tariffs so I am trying to understand how broad or not this is. Any impact?

    Hikvision video encoder

Encoders are more typically used when one wants to connect to a 3rd party VMS software that does not have built-in encoding (think Exacq, Milestone, Avigilon, etc.). As such, it makes less sense for an all-Hikvision system which offers DVRs integrated into their CMS / VMS.

Ever had a camera or NVR's update which improved things?

We just tested Hikvision DeepinView and their analytics improved substantially from the firmware version that shipped in production and the latest one they gave us. This is not typical since few Hikvision products being used right now have deep learning but that is one example.

Yes, the Chinese government has blocked IPVM. They give no notice nor reason nor appeal. We join the BBC, WSJ, NY Times, etc. as publications blocked inside China.

    DeepSense or Facial Recognition

We tested the Dahua 8242 face recognition camerashown on that webpage and it had various problems. From our summary: The Dahua DH-IPC-HF8242FN-FR had multiple issues making it more difficult to recommend for larger/more widespread use. Low recognition rate: The camera failed to recognize ~30%+...

Is there something similar to OnVif device manager that support H.265 (onvif v.23 and up)

Did you verify that those 'cheapo China cameras' are actually ONVIF conformant? See: Conformant Products - ONVIF If they are not, that is likely part of the problem and many 'cheapo cameras' are not actually ONVIF conformant.

Is there something similar to OnVif device manager that support H.265 (onvif v.23 and up)

ONVIF DM, even when it was not out of date, does little to fix recorder / VMS integrations that do not work. What recorder or VMS are you trying to connect it to?
