    Proof of being 'sad'

Reading numbers from a piece of paper and using a calculator to find the result, pressing the = and seeing that the answer is 404. Looking back at the piece of paper and thinking "not its not... its still there"

    Advice on Q-See NVR

I'm sure that 99% of us found that one out... saving money was most expensive thing I did, and did and did... until the junk / spare camera draw grew into a cupboard, then I figured it out.

Is there a standard base frame rate to record at for surveillance?

Hi blake Of course the answer depends on what's happening in the field of view, (old ladies pulling shopping trolleys directly towards the lens need less fps, lol) For my own blurless'ish requirements that cross the fov then my answer is 20

Need some input on add on cams--suggestions

It must be Christmas... for once I 1000000% agree with fenderman :D Just as a kinda 'point' of interest ... (and with out wishing to attract the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune), if you get a camera mm angle of view wrong and are used to taking stuff apart, then lens swaps are are not...

Hikvision POE LAN segment - access to cameras without virtual host or extra wiring.

Re: Hikvision POE LAN segment - access to cameras without virtual host or extra wirin Hi alastair I really shouldn't encourage you, cos what with the downsides and the hack not sticking.. I'd of shelved the idea. But there was talk of accessing the cameras via the nvr on ports 650XX...

OK... so why am not able to make a patch cable that works!

Hi fenderman... happy Xmas. I knew that :D ... hence my "cos they were invented by clever peeps"

How do you mark your cable runs?

Different colour pvc electrical tape works well after the event Different colour RJ boots or sleeving over the cable at time of installation. Or for cables that are awaiting for other trades to finish before termination, then leave a bit of extra cable and then use side cutters to cut...

What style drywall anchors are best?

Don't know what they are called in the US of A, but I use this type of fixing.. the screw in piece is 10mm dia and available in plastic or metal, and as you will see is self drilling. The only tool required for installation is a X head screwdriver. Caveat... to avoid the fixings showing, make...

OK... so why am not able to make a patch cable that works!

Never assume, lol In practice there's no difference between wiring standard A or B, you can use either (but remember to stick to one of them as your normal method, cos they were invented by clever peeps) So why make two darn standards when you only need one you may ask.... the answer is...

    Hikvision NVR questions

Hi LewisO A few answers. Yes, the NVR is clever, it knows if its ports requires POE or not.. Yes, and depending on the NVR firmware / software version.. you may be able to to get to the individual camera web page also through the NVR. It can happen, lol.. so if possible try to use only...

OK... so why am not able to make a patch cable that works!

Which of course is 100% correct, but in my defence (again, lol) I did say... "Solid cable 'should' (but sometimes you can get away with it) be used with connectors that are designed for the job.." So offered a method (albeit at a premium) that gave an alternative that was not reliant on the...

OK... so why am not able to make a patch cable that works!

Not all RJ45 connectors (plugs) are equal.. Solid cable 'should' (but sometimes you can get away with it) be used with connectors that are designed for the job..(3 prongs cut into each conductor, instead of the normal 2) giving a _ - _ shape For solid ... terminate the ends with a Keystone...

HIKVISION 7608 DVR; Will it FTP?

Hi Dave Re 'A', if your firmware version wont allow the cameras to be seen on the LAN, then a quick fix would be to (loop back) connect one of the unused nvr ports back to your router / switch. Re 'B', that will be fixed by doing 'A' Hope that helps.

Possible to Disable Built In IR on Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I 3MP?

Here you go, as milkisbad posted above :) If you don't want to reboot, then just go to day (save) then back to night (save) and the IR wont be on.

Suggestions for 2d Home IP system -- been hit already -- figure they'll be back.

Comparing same kinda looking , apart from the mega pixels of course. My favourite seller in the whole wide world has DS-2CD2332-I at $93.50 and the DS-2CD3310-I at $59.90 (delivered) a difference of $33.60 :single_eye: I did mention that in passing earlier in the thread But well done, at...

Suggestions for 2d Home IP system -- been hit already -- figure they'll be back.

Your still missing the point, lol Yes you can indeed reduce the bit rate ... but if your going to that, then save some money by not getting into the mega pixel race by over specifying some of the cameras.

Suggestions for 2d Home IP system -- been hit already -- figure they'll be back.

Nonsense is only in the deliberate misunderstanding of what was being suggested, lol If your running a 3MP camera at less than its full potential, then cost savings can be made by buying a more suitable selection of cameras in the first place. :(

Suggestions for 2d Home IP system -- been hit already -- figure they'll be back.

An idea... Its unlikely you will want to run 5 or 6 cameras at 3MP, as an 8ch nvr is limited to about 50Mps input bandwidth, and 1 cam at 3Mp will take up just under 13Mps so you will have to reduce each camera to about 2Mp..... so some savings can be made by purchasing the 1.3MP version of...

Camera Recommendations for BI - 1080p

+1 on that. Kinda... lol BI is great, but as you know requires the pc to be on 24/7. I recently got a Hikvision nvr so use that as my main device and turn the pc off when I'm not using it. Sure BI has more bells, whistles & features that you can shake a stick at, but after a long period of...

    IVMS4200 Codec?

Mp4's are fine (the police are kinda up to date and will know what to do with it) ... but if your pc doesn't have the right codecs installed, then Windows media player wont play them. Lots of options, but I suppose if want to use that player then this should do...
