    Challenge Accepted - 4K License Plate Recognition @ 85Ft with 4K S3 Camera (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3)

Yes depends on your distance to target for sure. Shame there is no Z12 on 4MP / 8MP. Just move your house closer to the road, sorted ! ;)

    Challenge Accepted - 4K License Plate Recognition @ 85Ft with 4K S3 Camera (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3)

Couple of notes: You have to be careful when you're mentioning 5442, remember that series has been around forever. ANPR is NOT supported, NOT implemented on the S1 or S2 models of 5x42 cameras, period. However the new S3 cameras DO support ANPR (I showed how you can check the cam capabilities...

Sure, it won't be much of a pic due to the lack of light but will aim to get one over the next few days for sure

    Challenge Accepted - 4K License Plate Recognition @ 85Ft with 4K S3 Camera (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3)

Yes, my goal was to see how far I could push the Z4 variant and like you, initially I thought this was going to be an impossible challenge only due to the sharpening and artifacting / noise seen out of the box. However, I knew I could do something with it so set the task of dialing in over 3...

    Challenge Accepted - 4K License Plate Recognition @ 85Ft with 4K S3 Camera (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3)

Hahah, thanks for the kind words as always. It really was an interesting one for me with these cams. As you all know, I dial systems in on a regular basis but these cams DO need a LOT of tweaking in the sharpness, gamma, areas which was the real part of this challenge. I should (could in future)...

    Challenge Accepted - 4K License Plate Recognition @ 85Ft with 4K S3 Camera (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3)

All, hope everyone had a great weekend. I wanted to post this video I took using the new S3 cams (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3 4K Bullet Camera, Dahua HFW5842E-Z4E-S3) I’ve been testing. Specifically I was challenged via some forum members and YouTube viewers to push these new cameras (4K variant) to...

It is also good practice to implement both based on differing areas of your location and target requirements within those.

Very good. Just make sure you dial in. The 4K versions are very good too and very flexible to location and target use. The 4Ks are very good too as I showed in this review thread.

You can BUT this is doable on these cams and the 5x-XI NVR's it's just not implemented properly yet. The 7xxx have always been phenomenal for VMD + their optics are higher quality (depending on build series etc) As I mentioned, ANPR is supported by the cams, just not fully baked, yet.

@wittaj just have a 'Smile for the Camera' sign up ;) Seriously though, this is what's great about using these cams in deployments (residential, commercial, industrial) is that they do give you a ton of evidential information

One other thing I would like to see done (this is a very little thing but would be nice) is that when cam's are placed into B&W mode, all bets are off for 'real' color. Therefore have it show Unknown (B&W mode used) or something like that rather than the Gray, Black, White etc that you see...

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

Yep and as mentioned, shame the Plate No. while clearly captured (in stream on cam as I showed before) as a plate is not processed on the NVR, instead showing Plate Unknown. Therefore you end up with LPR/NPR, not ALPR/ANPR. With that said you CAN do that with AI By Recorder on XI's etc which...

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

What is a shame is that the EI can certainly knows that plates are being captured when S3's are in VMD mode as it displays them under the image (as expected) BUT critically it will show Plate Unknown even though this data exists on the capture. Similarly as I mentioned in earlier posts, the S3...

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

Also while we're discussing the S3 cams and capabilities, there is ANOTHER benefit of IVS (standalone or in AcuPick mode) and that is the Experience Database that I mentioned, which DOES allow you to teach the camera targets that are undesired. I've been using that a lot in testing and it really...

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

I meant to say, for completeness there is only 1 time I EVER use Motion Detection and that is on LPR cams in dark areas when I have multiple cams covering that area. I always recommend 2 cams covering and ideally depending on use, location, target etc one of those (or an addition to the 2) is a...

Again, depends on what you want to use it for target wise (including distance to, type of, lighting etc) but for general surveillance then yes thats a good model. Consider the Z4 version if you want something with extra reach. That is the one I am doing the challenge with currently.

Then use IVS as your main. The S3 cameras will blow your mind BUT as I continue to say (and will do in each video I do on these), you MUST dial in these carefully especially depending on target use case

XI's are really good, I have one and love it BUT it is currently trailing behind the EI from an AcuPick 2.0 perspective. I have however addressed this with Dahua and asked that they release a new FW version ASAP for XI that looks to get to feature parity with EI, especially from an AcuPick...
