Network Switch for IP POE Cameras

I have a stack of 3x Cisco Catalyst C3750X PoE Gbps switches (48 ports each) that are interconnecting my infrastructure at home. I am going to be using these for the cameras. You can get one for less than $200 now off eBay.

Upgrade of an older Hikvision 4K PTZ to a new Dahua 8A840WAN 4K PTZ.

That looks intimidating..i like it :D

Shouldn’t the varifocal lenses offer some flexibility even if the camera wasn’t in the ideal position?

That's good to hear. Knowing how much some of these cameras are, it good that thieves leave them untouched. I might look at the turrets for my backyard because the cameras will be installed under the high-deck. I got two cameras down, 6 to go :D

Yes that is correct, the overlap covering will help protect the cameras themselves as well. In the attached picture that you marked for me (thanks again for that), you marked the cameras under the light fixtures of the garage. Was that on purpose, wouldn't the light interfere with the image? I...

Didn't your neighbor wonder why he hasn't received mail for sometime haha. You make great points and I feel better now about mounting them at the recommended height. Thanks!

Based on the earlier suggestions for positioning the cameras, I have a question about the height (again). I know the importance of placing the cameras at 7-8ft high max, but aren't you guys worried about people reaching out and damaging them? Especially with something like a bullet camera, its...

Thank you again mat200. I didn't know Lorex carried these, it was cheaper and faster ordering them from Lorex. I ordered this: https://www.lorextechnology.com/outdoor-junction-box/white-outdoor-junction-box-for-lorex-security-cameras-4-pack-/ACJNCD4B-4PK-0-p

    NUUO Crystal Experience?

Hello everyone, Since I have vSphere infrastructure running at home, I was looking for an OVA based NVR. Blue Iris requires Windows and I really do not want to setup a Windows VM unless I have to (i.e. licensing). So a simple google search showed that NUUO Crystal NVR supports OVA format, which...

Thanks, that is good to know. On that same topic, do you know if professional cameras like IPC-B5442E-ZE offer the ability to interface with them via SDK or APIs (RestAPI, etc.)? If so, where can I find such documentation?

Hello everyone :D excited to say that I just placed an order of 2x IPC-B5442E-ZE cameras from Andy, that's all I can afford for now :( Do I need any special mounting for these bullets to go on Stucco / brick wall, or simply use the back bracket it comes with?

I have a question on the AI component. My understanding, coax cameras are pretty much dumb terminals, they simply provide raw feed to the IVR which then does any processing like face or plate recognition. IP cameras have intelligence built-into-them in that they can process face or plate...

I am looking at this varifocal camera (IPC-B5442E-ZE - which is labeled Loryta IPC-B5442E-ZE 4MP Starlight+ WDR IR Bullet AI Network Camera 2.7mm ~12mm Motorized Lens English Version) from amazon (Andy's shop) and it ships to Canada (cost if $300 USD after shipping and taxes). When I look at...

That’s really good to know. If I haven’t learned what I have learned today from these helpful gents I would have probably went that coax to PoE route. What I thought was a professional installation wasn’t really, all my cameras are over 8 ft high, so pointless to use the existing cables and holes.

I scratched the cable with a razor a few times and nothing came out. I tried slicing it as well and the copper colour stayed true :) is there a vendor that you recommend tor purchasing the varifocal 5442? Hoping they ship to Canada. I looked at the Hiks camera that CCTVCam recommend and it’s...

You just said something awesome! the positions you pointed out can all be reached from the Garage. This might actually make it a lot easier to run cables. I could have a POE switch there as well, then link it to my basement infrastructure. Thank you! I can add another camera to the right of the...

Thank you wittaj for opening my eyes on the power of lenses and FOV, I admit I am one of those 4K Costco suckers and I am glad I was able to return my Lorex and find this forum before it was too late. Since my attic options are out the window, I will look at utilizing my infrastructure and...

Thank you SouthernYankee for the quick response. I have attached a picture that details the cable specifications, it says conductor type is SOLID. Does that mean its solid copper? Your installation approach in number 3 is very interesting and sounds like great way for testing all ports and...

Amazing fast feedback. Thank you both! so that takes care of my attic idea. You would be surprised on the amount of videos on YouTube showing how to install cameras in the attic, all of which are definitely above 8ft. That's why forums like these are valuable :D

Disclaimer: I am still reading through Cliff Notes and other threads. Boring background story: My house came with DW (digital watchdog) DVR setup of three cameras PTZ installed in 2012. Anyways, none of these cameras work now and I want to upgrade the whole setup. So I went to local Costco...
