    Replace PIR Sensor with Camera

First you need to tear it apart and figure out the trigger for PIR to actuator. It could be a simple solenoid valve. Find the voltage and current required to actuate it. Cameras have alarm outputs that could work. Depending on the current it can drive, it might be signal only, in which case...

    Non-permanent security/alarm system

Sounds like you need an alarm and camera system that works together. I use milestone and tie it to my alarm motion sensors with Barix Barionet 100. I use outdoor DSC LC171 sensors and optex beam sensors, when triggered, it creates a Milestone app alert on my phone and tablet, emails me photos...

    Long distance camera install guidance

Lots of jacket options and range of cost. I went with the $0.26/ft PVC it's relatively delicate, but I was careful with my 450ft pull. And I'm cheap and was willing to take the risk. Call Stonewall, ask them - with a 1000ft pull, what they would recommend

    Long distance camera install guidance

If you go with the BiDi, you only need 1 strand. It runs light in both directions on same strand. Otherwise you use 2 strands to run data in each direction on separate strands. This is better for longer runs (in the 10,000 ft + range) and lots of connections (more than 6 or 8) as you dont have...

    Long distance camera install guidance

For fiber, I've used Stonewall fiber, any length and connector you want. I used duplex singlemode 9/125 with SC ends, which go into my SFPs. BiDi which uses single strand fiber, giving me a backup strand. I used the cheap PVC jacket fiber as my run in conduit. They have a nice pull eye for...

Optex beam sensors work great. AX series. 100% reliable for me so far.

Where is the option to record 24/7 in Xprotect 2017?

    I'm on 2017 R1. I get to this menu under Server>Advanced Configuration>Camera and Storage Information>CAMERA>Properties> But this R2 looks all different. Haven't played with R2 yet, I hear it's still a bit new/buggy? I think I'll stay away until R3.

Where is the option to record 24/7 in Xprotect 2017?

I only know how to do this on the server, I set the camera properties to record keyframes only, which gives me 1 frame each second. Then I have it triggered by PIR to record at 20 fps. If you want it to record continuously at 30fps, just unclick "Record Keyframes Only" and it will. But this...

    Help hardwiring a wireless PIR

In either case, 10mA is not much to work with, most mechanical relay coils will require at least 16mA at 9V (Panasonic TQ2S❍-9V, as an example). So you will likely need a circuit with a transistor/optoisolator or try your luck with a solid state relay (Omron G3VM-62C1). The trick here is...

    Networking a 1000' gap

I had to run 420 ft, used fiber. I used some Gigabit fiber media converters and ordered the cable terminated from Stonewall cable, with the pulling eye, so I could pull it thru the conduit. I ordered the duplex singlemode, media converters (bidi SC) only use 1 fiber, so I have a backup fiber for...

Looking for POE splitter with feedthru power

Nayr, not quite, they don't have power feed thru, which is the unique feature I wish to exploit.

Looking for POE splitter with feedthru power

I have an application where I want to draw some power mid-way to the camera on the same line. I want to power an IR illuminator some 20 ft (as the wire travels) or so before the POE camera. I found this device, https://www.phihong.com/pdf/POE21_user_manual.pdf that let's me do it, but requires...

I would say that image analysis is not reliable for this and you should use a motion sensor light.

Dome camera losing signal on warm days

You swapped POE ports on your switch? Does your switch provide power consumption readouts on each port? Could be an issue with the on-board power regulation circuit. DC regulators typically have a thermal shutdown when they get too hot. Same could be true with the microcontroller IC. In...

Windows Sensors Connect to BI? (or must get Hub first?)

Hard wired or RF sensors? I have wired sensors tied to my Milestone using a Barionet Barix 100. It supports lots of hardware inputs. You can also use any hardware inputs on your cameras, if they have them. Once you start talking about RF sensors, you might need to get creative, which for me...

    Motion Sensors

You should be OK. Passive PIR sensors don't emit anything, only sense IR light (heat). Most security motion sensors are passive PIR.

What's your favourite cheapish long range outdoor PIR motion detector?

Risco Watchout Extreme - has a long range lens (narrow view) that will do 75ft. Dual PIR and dual microwave, like the DSC LC-171 (39ft). They are rock solid for detecting people.

    BNC Connectors? What kind?

Neutrick Rear Twist BNC FTW. http://www.neutrik.com/en/bnc/reartwist-cable-connectors/nbnc75blp7 Kings are good, but you can't beat the Rear Twist.

    Idea for driveway camera

lowpro, what kind of CAT6 were you running? I'll be going with direct burial extra thick PVC jacket cable. Bigger than the thin jacket stuff I normally use. Now I feel the super thick PVC jacket will be fine, gel filled won't really do much for me unless I get water ingress at the ends. This...

    Idea for driveway camera

I've abandoned the idea of gel filled as this will be all in conduit and not exposed to the elements. Do you think you could have easily pulled 3 x cat6 in the 3/4" conduit?

    Idea for driveway camera

I have a long driveway and I'm thinking of building a pair of columns at the end of it. I want to put a camera in there with an IR illuminator (6-8W) and column light (10 W max). So I'm looking at running AC power in one conduit and a couple of CAT6 in another. The wire run will be ~200 ft...

    POE for 150ft cable

I don't think it is power related, the calcs show a fraction of a watt drop on that run (http://beyond-wifi.com/poe/poe-calc.html) The only difference between the TP-Link (GigE) and the iCreatin (10/100). The camera is 10/100. Try to force your upstream connection to be 10/100.

    POE for 150ft cable

Hmm. I would have thought properly glued PVC conduit would stay dry underground. We don't get much humidity out here in the desert. I just ordered 2 spools of cat6 from monoprice for a underground run. Should I rethink my choice?

    PIR Sensor Suggestions?

What's your goal? Illuminate IR on motion? That bosh is indoor and will interface with alarm panels, meaning it has low current signaling output and can't drive an illuminator without extra circuitry (relays, transistors, etc.) The coolwest will drive up to 800W IR illuminator, but it has to...
