SMTSEC 5MP Low LIght 1/2" Sony IMX178 Dome
I run XProtect on i5 NUC, 11 X 3MP cameras, looking to add the 12th soon. All doing 1920x1080, except 1 at 3MP. Based on menu options, it appears to do multiple alarms for motion, although I haven't set that up.- CamFan

FOV or angle of view on the DS-2CD2342WD-I
For a 2.8mm focal length lens to achieve 109° diagonal FOV, the sensor size must be 7.85mm diagonal (6.84mm wide x 3.85mm tall). This is 1/2.3" sized sensor. I thought the HIK 4MP were Omnivision OV4689 1/3" sensors. -

Why isn't there a standard bullet camera in 2.8mm lense?
To get wide angle, you need a larger front flat glass, which increases the body diameter of the bullet. In my measurements, Hikvisions 2.8mm lenses are really more like 3.2 - 3.25mm, so even the domes don't give you the wide angle they advertise. Nor are the actual angles correct... -

12V power through Cat5e?
Not so fast. You need to deliver 38 watts at 12V plus or minus 10%, which gives you a range of 10.8V to 13.2V. Worst case is you need to deliver 3.5 Amps (38W/10.8V) at the lowest voltage. So using the bulk cable calculator, put in 3.5 A and 13.2V. 14AWG will droop to 11.4V at 200 ft...- CamFan

I think 1/2" will be as big as they go. S Mount/M12 lenses seem to max out at 1/2". Going to 2/3" and larger will be a c-mount lens. It has to do with image circle coming out the back of the lens being able to cover the entire sensor. It's all about economics of scale. The small sensors they... -

Pixel size has nothing to do with processing power, pixel count does. Bigger pixels can be exposed to more photons, thus can be better in low light. Bigger sensors need bigger lenses and will have shorter depth of field. For security, you want long depth of field so everything is in focus... -

Powering camera by POE and 12v?
Not having access to the schematic, I would guess the poe power supply regulates to 12vdc. It likely meets the 12V pigtail input at this point. If designed right, they should be protected with diodes so one can't backfeed the other. Backfeeding the poe supply shouldn't be a problem. Most...- CamFan

Mounting Hikvision 2032 off 1/2" threaded nipple?
So you want to mount a 1/2" nipple coming out of the box and attach the camera to that? It could work, you would need a custom adapter plate from 1/2 to the 3 screw base mount. BUT, the cable end of the camera will not fit through the nipple. -
