Thanks!
That's a tricky one. If we use the international one, Dahua USA can argue we bought a grey, unauthorized product that does not reflect their quality. This is the same issue we have with Hikvision though Hikvision tends to use the same model numbers across the world whereas Dahua makes...
Today and tomorrow (18th and 19th) all of IPVM is free. Here are 5 shootouts I think IPCamTalk members would be interested in:
Camera Analytics Shootout 2020 - Avigilon, Axis, Bosch, Dahua, Hanwha, Hikvision, Uniview, Vivotek
Color Low Light Mega Camera Shootout - Avigilon, Axis, Bosch, Dahua...
Thanks to everyone who uses and recommends the IPVM calculator!
We have a new version that works on phones - no app install, just we optimized it with a responsive design for phones. Like the 'desktop' version, it is free for up to 4 cameras, with the same functionalities.
If anyone has any...
On Feb 12th, @EMPIRETECANDY, in this thread, said "we have some models lacking of stock now till the end of this month, maybe March", so has that slide back now? That would not be surprising given everything going on, just trying to be clear.
Arjun, do you want to measure temperatures with the thermal camera? Assuming so (that's typically what people are using thermal for regarding the pandemic), the issue is accuracy.
Normal security thermal IP cameras are not tuned to deliver precise temperature readings. And there is a lot of...
Could be, I heard that theory from someone else this morning. However, I had never heard any US government or industry people criticize Li Ke or his Huawei background. Not necessarily because they liked Li Ke but because he was relatively invisible. Dahua's issues are far more their size in the...
Yes, Hikvision USA models have long lagged behind International versions, historically explained by further QA or development for USA firmware. I would expect with the ban and sanctions, this would create more delays and further limit how many models are sold officially in the US.
As @fenderman...
@aristobrat To clarify, the guy leaving is from Huawei. He (ex-Hauwei) was new in 2017 when we wrote that post. The ex-Huawei guy just resigned as Dahua CEO. Now, Dahua's founder, Fu, is back in
@EMPIRETECANDY thanks for sharing! i found the official announcement 巨潮资讯网
We will be contacting Dahua and doing a post, i'll post it back here when released
We've dealt with many high security operations over the years and they virtually all hate false alerts because it is a distraction and gets them in the habit of distrusting the alerts generally.
We are certainly open to testing it but, given Dahua's US government ban and sanctions, unlikely...
Interesting. They are setting expectations rather low, e.g., just 80% accuracy and up to 10 false alerts per day for fighting:
Recall rate ≥80% (Correct alarms/real events)
False alarm frequency ≤10 false alarms/24 hours (Target size: The fighting target takes up 1/4 × 1/4 of the whole image).
My general understanding is that there is a lot of stock in the US, since many manufacturers and dealers stocked up months ago with the tariff raising fears.
Of course, whether specific models or sellers have stock is another thing.
We (IPVM) did a shootout recently on just this with 25 cameras. What we found was that some of the more expensive cameras did much better in delivering strong subject details, I've excerpted a section and a sample image:
Details on moving objects: The strongest weighted performance difference...
Yes, I understand that. That was my point. ONVIF cannot enforce its trademark on a random user on a forum. ONVIF can enforce its trademark on Doorbird's own marketing.
Why anyone reached out to IP Cam Talk is strange but ONVIF going after Doorbird for using ONVIF on Doorbird's own marketing is...
There's a difference between what Doorbird says in their sales and marketing vs what a reporter for a newspaper or a poster on a forum says. In the case of Doorbird, they are using the ONVIF trademark promotionally, so it can be restricted.
In our over 10 years of covering ONVIF, ONVIF has been...
Have you verified that with ONVIF? Maybe that is true, maybe the poster (Doorbird) is mistaken. For sure, the poster is mistaken about 'pressed with charges' as I agree with you that appears to be a translation issue.
I am happy to help get clarification on this from ONVIF or you can contact...
I asked ONVIF for a comment and will follow up if/when they respond (They just finished Intersec so I expect a delay).
Also, I checked ONVIF's website and Doorbird is an ONVIF member but has no products listed as conformant. Despite this, Doorbird lists an 'Onvif'-setting in many of their...
We (IPVM) have a report on this that I've unlocked - IP Camera Browser Support: Who's Broken / Who Works
The Western commercial brands are mostly there now while Dahua and Hikvision are improving but still mixed support
So 0.000 or 0 means / implies the rating is based on the IR illuminator on. Otherwise, it should be a number greater than 0 as the camera will need some amount of light.
Also, and I don't think this is a concern for you, but for others reading this, if you ever actually measure the lux level in...
Be careful about how you use lux ratings in making product decisions. Our testing shows that comparing lux ratings of cameras across different manufacturers cannot be trusted, since each manufacturer uses its own approach, scale, technique to setting a lux / minimum illumination level. So you...
