Cabling: Tools rough draft #1. Opinions/Suggestions desired.

going to resurrect this thread. Being 25+ years in the network cabling business, my viewpoints were... clouded with experience, many things taken for granted. I bought the company I worked at back around this time of Oct 2022 and "business survival" of getting things out of the red became...

Adding a building to my network.

Example: I'll be relocating my IP cameras off the 90degree edges of my house, run a Cat6 burial cable out to the corners of my fenced lot. I'll have to trench but only 5-6" deep (I will not be doing any plowing or such in these areas so it's safe). Easily done by hand. With burial cable, it...

POE wired Doorbell - what is the best one?

Dahua does have their doorbell / villa units. Not certain of model #'s (has been 3+ years since I purchased/installed) or what is the latest greatest, but my doorbell / villa camera works great for it's purpose. I say "villa" because it was designed for villa intercom purposes. You can have...

Adding a building to my network.

You could just simply run burial grade cat6 for your runs between all 3 locations and abolish all the point to point headache. I'm always 'skittish' when folks use radio signals as their main transmission of IP cameras and/or NVR.

Best current deal on 1000ft of Ethernet cable, RJ45 Connectors, and a crimper?

If you have a "GRAYBAR" electrical supply store, get the Ber-Tek Cat6 indoor PVC 1000' for $170'ish. GRAYBAR is everywhere and you would not have to worry about shipping costs. You will not need PLENUM, as if your house is on fire, the toxic fumes from PVC cables would be the least of your...

Contemplating Blue Iris and have a question about PC location

Or hire your local low voltage network wiring contractor and run 2 Cat6 cables back & forth from your closet to wherever you put your machine. I wouldn't rely on WiFi to remote into your Blue Iris machine. In a time of crisis where your mind is getting scrambled in a rush due to an emergency...

Who uses Dahua AI capable cameras? Reliable AI for triggering events? Pro's/con's?

The OP must of been very thoughtful to start a thread subject like this in the hopes it would survive years later to help others.

Hindsight is biting my friend after theft, need opinion on camera layout.

A couple weeks late.... but something to consider (really, anyone to consider) make sure you have at least 1 camera at the 6' height from the ground. Sure, it can be easily vandalized. I had a security issue. Put 4-5 cameras out front at 9' and 12' heights + 1 at 4' height (Dahua VTO villa...

Blue Iris in a business environment. Who has used it or installed it?

I did talk to Andy while purchasing the equipment. Future could look bright! Have already been approached by a woman's shelter advocate of the suggestion of making a separate non-profit business to assist with those in need of NVR & IP cameras for woman's shelter, domestic violence victims in...

Blue Iris in a business environment. Who has used it or installed it?

Kinda funny this has popped up after 2 years. My company is in the middle of it's first Dahua Camera and NVR system install. It's dinky (NVR8CH-8P-2AI and 7 x IP-T54IR-ZE 4MP). Sent all 4 techs over to learn pro's/con's/how/how not to, do residential Cat6 wiring as professional as possible...

Need Buyers help for Dahua Camera

Can you toss up a picture of your outside installation so we can see why it's not possible to bring the cameras lower? I have multiple height cameras. 4 at the 6 foot height to point directly at faces so that light reflection off a face is not obscured by hats or bowing head down. These are 2...

How about this... purchase both the ZE and Z4E. Can't go wrong! You'll eventually use one and the other once you go down the rabbit hole!

Review-IP Villa Outdoor Doorbell Station & Indoor Monitor Kit

I have no idea what those commands are that you listed. I use the GUI to setup my config parameters. And my setup is different than normal because I chose not to use the Dahua Cloud for notifications & video feeds to my Android phone but rather an odd ball way of bypassing the cloud all...

Does she like car tires? Rubber? Carry sharp objects? Stand in middle of the road like a zombie? If so...I'll take her cell #! I mean, her address. I mean, her shopping cart plate number.

Review-IP Villa Outdoor Doorbell Station & Indoor Monitor Kit

unsure if has been mentioned or not, updated firmware on DahuaWiki that works: Dahua VTO2202F V4.511.0000000.0.R with a build date of 5/23/2022 (have to update firmware 3x's... one version, then next, then final) DahuaWiki Dahua VTH2421F-P V4.700.0000000.0.R with a build date of 8/4/2023...

Looking for a decent doorbell camera that works with BI

I know the Dahua VTO/VTH villa intercom system might be... older and not as useful to folks out there like what has been already been mentioned...but since Dan brought up Home Assistant, The Dahua VTO is included in the Dahua integration into Home Assistant. From there, can have speakers or...

Camera Placement for Detect vs Identify - Just Some Thoughts

As I have learned... if you want a video / picture of a face to give to the local authorities so that they have something to arrest or get a warrant for, the perfect angle is level with the face. Once you start going higher, now you have to factor in light shadows, baseball hat, lowering of...

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

If you do decide to drill through the block for any reason, drill through the mortar and not the block itself. Easy fixings, later.

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

What of putting external camera round mount base at the red circle of the outside wall, and with 1/2" EMT conduit travel 2' to the left, 90 degree bend down, another 2', 90 degree bend to the left so the EMT conduit ends underneath that 1st floor roof overhang.

And so I bought my low voltage company that has been dismissive of any online presence along with today's technology. Email? Webpage? Techy stuff?

working 2x's as hard is... fun :) exciting and tedious. but I wouldn't change anything. I'm still 1/2 technician and 1/2 boss. The stress & drama came up when I had 3 new techs to train. Lots of 'ooops, I didnt know' situations that I feel I have to babysit. Time & experience will help...

Still here. No one told me I would have 100% no social life as a new business owner that has no experience assuming control of a 20 year old established business. Not so easy :) Heck...bought one of Andy's wifi outdoor spotlights a month ago and still have not even installed it!

Home security system (ring vs vista 20p wireless)

I installed a DSC 1864 (?) for a DIY system. Knowing I was going to toss 40+ Cat6 cables in my house, I opted to run both video, data, coaxial, alarm wiring everywhere. I mean come one...it's just drywall :) Simple patch. I have integrated it into my Home Assistant system (when a door alarm...

And so I bought my low voltage company that has been dismissive of any online presence along with today's technology. Email? Webpage? Techy stuff?

Much has happened since I tossed this post up, on this topic. I was working 16 hour days / 7 days a week so this went on the backburner. Until a couple months ago when AllStream (old ATG, old Integra dialtone/internet folks) jacked pricing up to $300 just to host a single email. In a rush, I...

What brand name variety of cameras should I have for commercial selling demonstration purposes?

Hey peeps! Sorry I have not been around in the months of late. Purchasing this company I work at has really sucked up any and all of my free personal time. I still have to finish the postings of 'how to cable' here someday soon. Now that things are settling down, I have more requests for...

Burying CAT6 in pvc conduit- direct burial rated cable needed?

Put your 12vdc or 24vdc 1" deep in the ground. Who cares. PVC conduit, EMT conduit, direct underground...there is no NEC code application in this case when it comes to a homeowner doing his thing. I have 24vdc running 100' out to my lamp post in 6" depth using underground solid core Cat6. No...
