    POE switch needed?

My VTO has been running off a POE switch since day 1 without any issues (no power cycles, reboots, etc). Same for all my Dahua IP cameras, including the DC hungry PTZ. Now the question could come up... is it wise to run IP cameras off a POE switch? My answer...yes. Have I heard people having...

Beware of Z-Wave 700 series controllers

I gave up for now :) reverted back to Gen5. I'll deal with Gen7 or even Gen8 when my system gets.... more complex and I need the additional entity headroom, security, and range (which I need none of the 3 as of yet)

Beware of Z-Wave 700 series controllers

by Silicon Labs Firmware: 7.18.1 Hmph...never noticed this post before. I acquired a series 700 Gen7 usb controller to upgrade over my Gen5 Aeotec at the beginning of 2022. Took me a good while to get around to seeing about upgrading to the Gen7 due to the biggy bug I kept reading about...

    DSC 1864 install opinions wanted

Hmph... it never occured to me to put smoke detectors into my DSC. Didn't know that was possible, actually. I did purchase First Alert battery-operated Z-Wave smoke detectors I have yet to install but those will be monitored by Home Assistant. The smoke detectors that came with the house are...

    DSC 1864 install opinions wanted

I like having 3 - 6 Bosch Gen 2 pet immunity PIR's all around. Outside and inside. And for added security benefits, get Home Assistant home automation software. DSC does MQTT to it with the net card. Auto turn on outdoor lights or smart tv's with UI3 outdoor camera group in 2 seconds upon any...

SUNBA PoE+ PTZ Camera Outdoor, 36X Optical Zoom 5MP

The camera did not work for the CANTOK selection. Hence, had to manually find SUMBA and the Illuminati option. Yep, this will be a non-critical use camera. I have to decide to put it 10'-12' or even higher up near the roof line. Main use will be to see incoming far away storms rolling over...

SUNBA PoE+ PTZ Camera Outdoor, 36X Optical Zoom 5MP

Recieved it. As with any auction find, you never know if it's broken or new in box. Luckily, this was new in box. Plugged into my POE switch and it boots up. Had to use IE to log into it (no go for Chrome). Immediately disabled P2P and other 'please hack me' settings (it's on a closed VLAN...

Possible office building customer for coming up. Recommendations for Dahua cameras?

what confuses me about server vs desktop setups... the processor. I've never used a Xeon processor. For Blue Iris purposes, it is highly recommended to use Intel 6th gen and up (i5-9600k for example) for the use of the QuickSync. I did use a Intel 4th gen chip without it and....do not recall...

Possible office building customer for coming up. Recommendations for Dahua cameras?

again...no rush or worries as of yet. customer said 3-6 months out for any installations. with the amount of snow that Lake Tahoe is getting this winter, might be July before I can get on a boom lift for outdoor installs!

SUNBA PoE+ PTZ Camera Outdoor, 36X Optical Zoom 5MP

601-D25X 5MP Ver I just snagged one of these at a local auction for $120. Wanted (but never needed) a PTZ for backyard so this would be more akin to a .... toy. This is a $379+ retail camera, unlike the OP's $499 version. Couldn't find anything about IVS or such so will use Blue Iris's motion...

Dell PowerEdge T40 Mini-tower server System Intel Xeon E 8gb DDR4 550HK I know next to nothing about what is great to have in a server build. I did my own server home build but it was based off a regular desktop. It works 100% but does not have redundant power supplies or hotswappable HD's...

However, I will look into server grade as well. I remember some small business Dell mid-tower had a nice price server grade tower. T something. Certainly no $3000+ hardware is neeeded.

while what you say is true for enterprise commerical environments, this location is not such. I mean, they've been running Hikvision analog cameras & NVR for years and only upgrading because the need for the 2 additional driveway cameras that concentrate only on vehicle & plates.

that is also a possibility. I tried a Synology NAS at home and Blue Iris for a little time. The alerts snapshots took 10-20 seconds to populate when I needed 1 second fast reaction time during my tire slashing security event. However, the customer will not be live viewing at all so maybe...

Hi! We lost a cat and need help

for temp purposes, it's AOK to run a loooong patch cord or a Cat5e/Cat6 cable through a crack in window or even underneath the door weather strip (gently close the door...cable will get somewhat crushed but may survive). This would give you the ability to slap a POE camera on a 5 gallon bucket...

CAT6A Shielded (FTP) Running Along 120VAC for 75'

water will get into PVC if buried. You do not only have to worry about rainfall seepage but humidity & condensation buildup. Hence, ANY buried cable should be waterproof regardless. If going underground path...it should be considered by everyone on IPCT past, now, and future to go weatherproof...

Is there a scientific/engineering formula to figure out the needs of a battery backup & POE switch/cameras?

I never know what is appropriate when it comes to battery backup needs. My default for just about everthing is the number 1500 (Cyberpower, APC, etc). But now is the time I should narrow down "expected" battery backup life in case of main power outage. All will be on 110VAC outlets. I do have...
