    Malibu Fires

My house is on the flats, so no danger of fires, but they turned off the power for four days anyway. That’s the standard response to high winds now. We have high winds every year. In LA, we’ve become like South Africa, not even trying to maintain or improve the infrastructure. People who can...

Which nVidia GPUs are you using?

I see where it says that: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Specs Fwiw, nvidia says may 1016: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/gfecnt/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti/ But I’ve got an email where I mentioned it to a colleague from 2015, so I know it’s close to ten years old.

    Dahua hard reset button

Don’t forget to power with an adapter outputting at least 2 amps when you do the hard reset. A lot of the time it won’t actually reset on POE or even 12v if under 2amps.

    Notice the Amazon strike?

One of the few social media venues not to censor people expressing doubts about the 2020 election was called Parler. Amazon Web Services silenced Parler by deplatforming it. In addition to all the other good reasons for breaking Amazon into tiny, tiny pieces, that, on its own is a sufficient...

Which nVidia GPUs are you using?

I have a gtx1080ti, which I don’t use for BI, but even though it’s about 13 years old, it’s a beast. You have to get pretty fancy card$ to out perform it. Overkill, unless you run lots of AI cameras, but if you do, it could probably handle the load despite its age.

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

Something like an intel i350 dual nic will work with almost anything. I think these usually take an x4 pcie slot, but you can find other nics that take an x1 slot. I’m surprised your old hp tower doesn’t have a suitable pcie slot. Yes, let us know how it comes together.

    Building my home network

I have been toying with the idea of getting a quad port card for a low power BI install in a vacation house. It really only needs a couple of cameras, so with a quad card, I could eliminate the switch, and put each camera on its own subnet. The cameras would have to be powered by wall adapters...

    Building my home network

Interesting idea about using the fiber sff ports to carry the chicken coop / mailbox signals. Those ports are usually used for uplinks to a main switch or router, but I can’t see why you couldn’t use them for a lateral branch. Your uplink will have to run through a normal port, but your switch...

    Fall detection

This seems live a very valuable ai feature. My inlaws in their 90s really need this. We hire someone to attend them all night largely because of the danger they’ll try to get up and fall. My mother in law broke her hip a few months ago this way.

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

I think that was me. Sometimes they’re less. Sometimes I go to pick stuff up and they offer me things for free if they haven’t sold in a few auctions. They need the space. I usually decline, because I need the space too. Every once in a while they sell a high powered laser, and I think...

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

It’s amazing how low the specs for a BI computer are. Ten year old SFF computers cast off from businesses and governments are what most people use. No graphics card needed unless you want to run some ai functions. To be fair, the nvr is also a switch, and the switch will put out heat, but...

Hello All Im Learning as i Go

A NUC isn’t the best computer for a Blue Iris box. Think a small form factor (SFF) pc, about ten years old. Something like a hp elitedesk 800 g4 or g5. These are good because they’re pretty low power, have space for a couple of hdds, as well as nvme and sata ssds. You can use the ssds for...

Yes, no doubt. I’m surprised he wasn’t wearing his MAGA hat.

    Dude adjusts my doorbell.

No. Unfortunately the City of LA thinks the public sidewalks are an ok place for people to camp. So now we have lots of these friendly folks keeping an eye on the neighborhood for us. Or perhaps he is the Lorex service guy.

    Dude adjusts my doorbell.

All true. I put it in when I knew very little about cameras. I didn’t get a good image of his face. The light coming from above creates glare as well. This is the first time it’s been tested.

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

Yes, BI will not only show a triggered state, but you can set it up to fire an alert to your phone (or other device). There is an excellent browser interface that runs on your phone. So if someone comes up to your house, BI will fire an alert, your phone will ding via a third party app like...

    Dude adjusts my doorbell.

You know, it wouldn’t be that hard to pop off. It doesn’t speak well for this fellow’s determination that he gave up so easily. C for effort.

    Dude adjusts my doorbell.

Friendly neighborhood dude thought my doorbell camera needed adjusting at 1:17 a.m. I guess he had insomnia and thought he might as well do something for the community.

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

Yes, BI does what the nvr did. Rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way makes updating to w11 easy. No tpm, no microsoft account. Download Rufus and the iso, then disconnect from the internet while you update. Takes about 10 minutes.

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

Fanless is also a plus when it comes to switches, especially if it’s going to be in occupied space. Larger, “server” switches, especially if they output poe, are often made to live in server rooms, and the fans scream. Smaller “edge” switches are made to live in offices where they can’t make a...

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

This stuff is all cheap. Buy used poe+ network switches on ebay or local ads made by good companies rather than new off-brand stuff. Businesses and governments upgrade all the time to bigger, faster switches with features you don’t need. An eight or ten port switch with gigabit upload...

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

Generally speaking, a dual network interface card (NIC) for the computer and a power over ethernet (POE) network switch should be your nexy purchases. The dual NIC lets you keep the cameras on their own subnet so they can’t see the internet and get hacked or phone home. The POE switch powers...

    Another Coyote Fox confusion.

Here in Los Angeles that’d be a coyote. Especially if there were a bunch of illegals (new voters, we call them) in the trunk of his car.

Which CCTV systems will interchange with a Dahua system?

The system itself doesn’t need an internet connection, so the low speed will only constrain your ability to receive notifications. If you use a service like Pushover, there isn’t a lot of data flowing, and you’ll at least be able to get a snapshot of what’s happening.

Howdy....new here and hoping to learn about my Lorex System

When you need cameras fast and you don’t know much about them, a Lorex package gets you up and running quick. You can do better when you spend some time learning, but sometimes you don’t have the luxury of time, so no shame for buying the Lorex.
