Troubleshooting poor image quality - frustrated.

Viewing cameras in Smart Client via a RDP session is a poor idea unless you have a restricted network limitation (i.e. VPN, proxy RDP over internet, VDI...). Frame skipping is basically a guaranteed sign of something being insufficient performance / bottlenecking the video...

    Corridor mode

I think the gist of it is: Physically rotate the camera 90 degrees so the wide sensor view is up/down. This would make your video look 90 degrees rotated. So you put it in Corridor mode, which changes the resolution i.e. from 1920x1080 to 1080x1920 with actual-up being video-up.

    Corridor mode

Yeah I think it just flips it 90 degrees. The concern I have it that many of the Dahua IR emitter layouts will end up with a emitter up in the circuit board area if it is a dome cam.

    Tariffs and Dahua

fenderman, don't you think it is hypocritical of you to denounce one report as being bought and paid for propaganda, but you have no qualms about claiming the 'Chinese government steals US Intellectual property?' How is the proof of the latter any more trustworthy than the former?

    Nosey neighbor cams

Walrus, I don't think it would, it would just create a little bright spot, and only if the emitter is located within the camera's field of view.

There are more ways to see the video that just the web interface. Many applications can stream video from the camera and display it to you, such as VLC and various Video Management Systems.

    3x2MP Multi-Sensor Network Camera+PTZ Camera PSDW5631S-B360

A screen capture video of someone using the web interface of this camera would answer a lot of questions. Also, will it appear as four cameras to the VMS? 2? 1? Depends on fisheye settings? Is the PTZ sensor used as in a seamless manner to improve the quality when a user digital zooms and...

    Varifocal Lens Change

Curious, are you doing the lens transplant to save money by not purchasing a different model? Or is there no different model that is what you need?

Head up on Dahua's newest firmwares

There was 'new firmware' sometime in early 2018 that also did that annoying change that prevents ConfigTool from configuring a factory default camera.

    Milestone news Feb 2019

XProtect 2019 R1 is available on their portal. According to their document, the big features are 2-way audio support including in the mobile app; secure communication and encryption throughout the entire system; better(?) SmartClient or Exported SmartClient(?).

    PTZ or no PTZ

The other thing to consider is that every PTZ model I've used, from various manufacturers, always has a fairly tight view angle (long focal length) even at its most zoomed out. It's probably equivalent to something like a 6mm minimum focal length, 50 degree horizontal FoV. That makes it tough...

    PTZ or no PTZ

PTZ only ever is a good choice if you have someone manning it on a regular basis. By that I mean, a person is going to log into the camera and operate the PTZ functions to accomplish some special tracking and monitoring task. If you just want cameras to see things and record things, it is...

16:9 is horrendous, please stop buying them

No, because if you mount a 16:9 camera in a 90 degree orientation it results in a 9:16, which is the 'vertical video' fail that was made fun of in the video. 16:9 has the same problem as 9:16, just in the other sense.

    Axis P1343 valuation?

Compared to price and features of a new camera, I would say around $5 each. Most of that value is as a learning tool for stress testing and configuration practice on your VMS.

16:9 is horrendous, please stop buying them

Are you with me or against me? I strongly prefer 5 MP (2592 x 1944) over 8 MP (3840 x 2160), to use current Dahua options as examples of the type. The reason is that the additional vertical field of view angle makes for a more useful CCTV video. And don't get me started on putting a 16:9...

    open http port

The web interface, specifically the page shown in my attachment, is how to configure which port the camera listens for HTTP web interface connections on. If your camera isn't responding to your web interface browser requests at port 80, then it might be set to a different port. And if you don't...

    How to modify "Onvif User"?

I have found that, even if you get locked out of the camera, power cycling it will reset the lock and allow you to try again. I think the idea with the two types of accounts is: -Web Interface access uses the normal accounts. -ONVIF protocol access uses the ONVIF accounts. But there is probably...

PTZ Camera's PT Motor Frozen - Needed a Power Recycle

If what looney says is true about BI 'restart' only reconnecting, then you can do a better restart within the camera's WebUI. Full power cycle is the ultimate, but I think the WebUI forces a soft restart of the internal OS, which includes the PTZ health check process during bootup.

    Anyway to improve image

Comparing the post #1 to #17, I don't see any substantive improvement in the color images. With that considerable amount of ambient light, I don't see any benefit to the B/W mode.

motion blur and unclear image in general

You aren't going to get a highly detailed mugshot with the location and wide field of view of your camera. Can you do the same video test in daylight and compare the quality? I suspect even the daylight image will look like that.

motion blur and unclear image in general

I don't see any substantial motion blur. If you want more detail on a particular portion of the image, you need to zoom in on it to get more pixels on target.
