    Odd looking planes

Here is one for you. Two planes, but with forward and rearward light beams. I could not figure it out, but one of the veterans thought it might be a mid-air refuel. What do you guys think? The video is at 20X speed.

    Morning Aurora (August 4, 2024)

Initially only visible through holes in the clouds, but wait until the clouds clear. The display would have been even more amazing were it not obscured by our Pacific Northwest Clouds.

HDW3849H-AS-PV vs T5442TM-AS for longer distance

Multiple cameras with PTZ's among them give a lot of flexibility and coverage. Some places I use pairs of fixed position cameras. These poles mix in some PTZ's to do the job.

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

Seems the distances are doable without POE extenders. I have 13 of my cameras mounted away from the house. Doing so opens up a lot more coverage possibilities than limiting to just on the house. My absolute best sky cam position for dim sky objects is on a pole behind the house. Your 4KT's...

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

My entrance to house for the ethernet lines is next to my mains panel. I bond the arrestors to the house ground. They won't save your cameras from destruction, but can limit how much other equipment gets affected. I don't think you need that tall of a post. My camera posts are about 7 feet above...

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

I'd be tempted to put a camera post here. Trenching in a couple direct burial ethernet cables there would get you near 360 degree views. I've run the direct burial stuff both wire itself and within underground conduit. Once the wire is in place, it is a joy to have the remote mounting...

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

Seems a nice location for minimal light pollution. You're going to get really nice stars, planets and definitely Andromeda galaxy if you set up a long shutter time

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

It's a 3.6 mm lens (88 degrees horizontal). The leftmost portion of frame is north northwest. The tall tree is due east. I also use a 2.8 mm, but visually the 3.6 is sharper and I prefer the lesser geometry distortion.

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

You're going to have fun with it. It captures sky events that you can't even see with your eyes. Tonight's aurora activity (from near Seattle) was not visible to my eyes, but the Color 4KT got this Ignoring earth curvature, I estimate 460 miles to the aurora last night.

HDW3849H-AS-PV vs T5442TM-AS for longer distance

Two cams is another solution to the narrow vs wide issue. If only single wire there are good poe extender splitters

    Waterproof connector for Dahua cameras

I have used a couple from this kit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CNJMMFP6 BTW if you are doing new ethernet terminations, I absolutely love the new pull-through RJ-45 CAT6 plugs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09CG5XYP5 SO much easier than the standard plugs. Strip a longer length of...

Recommend a PoE Splitter That Can Output 30W+

Were this my camera, I would simply modify its POE board to output DC from its DC power input jack. Some have done this by simply shorting the block diode to permit the reverse power flow. Since the external mics require miniscule amounts of DC power, I use a resistor rather than completely...

    OMG Thermal!

Mind you, despite not being able to see the preview in the web GUI, I can still see the visible and thermal video channels via SecuritySpy. Here is an interesting comparison of hand temperature of the boss's vs mine. Circulation difference is pretty obvious in thermal.

Red Barons and What the Quack?

This was a fun one to put together. I don't understand why ducks went through our intersection. We are NOT near a pond and we've never seen this happen before. Then again, we've had a heron on our back deck. Duck captures are not what the street cameras are set up to catch. So, the cropping was...

    Wildfire Detection On PTZ

One of my cams is probably picking up glow beyond Mount Index (Washington state) that is IR being reflected off high altitude clouds near the Pioneer wildfire (about 80 miles range). I've see this before with our big 2015 Okanagan fire. Here is what the camera is seeing above Mount Index and...

POE Tilt/Pan Mount for Turret - Anyone Know of One?

I would like one of my Color 4K-T cameras to change its tilt up/down near sunset and sunrise. I don't actually need it to pan, just tilt the turret up/down about 30 degrees. Does anyone know of a remote controllable tilt base that one could mount a turret upon? Alternative of a full PTZ camera...

    Two Galaxies and Three Planets

The security cams continue to impress. Three planets and two galaxies in one night. Triangulum galaxy only shows up as a faint smudge, but it is there in the frame. Andromeda was its usual easy to capture. The sky cam managed Jupiter, Uranus and Mars all within frame. Actually, viewing...

    Neptune on 25X PTZ

Grinning here. Managed to see Neptune for the first time with my own eyes and some field glasses. Harder to accomplish than with the camera, but after about 15 minutes, my eyes were sensitive enough to see it.

    crud on lens cover

I think Wittaj is correct in thinking it is a layer of the lens cover itself. Were this water spots or errant paint overspray, it would also appear on the black housing. I don't see it on the housing. I'm afraid you are going to need to do more aggressive cleaning than any of us like performing...

    Neptune on 25X PTZ

I rank this among the most extreme captures I have managed with a security camera. Astonished it was able to pick up Neptune. Many satellites are in the video, but I have no idea what kind of object is in the left side of the third video segment. It was slower than a typical satellite - WAY to...

    Moonrise on 3.6 mm turret

Waning crescent moon was dim enough to not overwhelm camera. Its crescent shape is visible as lens reflection slightly right of actual moon location. Also rising with the Moon is Mars (a bit more to the right of the moon) Look carefully and you will also see some satellites streaking by and...
