Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

@fergenheimer I take your point - about what the next person makes of the situation when they don't have all the initial information - houses and sites outlive people. That is why there are color assignments, norms, and customary practices. Context is important too. An urban situation might...

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

The construction supervisor for the infrastructure build-out for the neighborhood told me they are supposed to go down 12" for the connection to the house. Service install is a different phase of the overall project, involves different people, and it remains to be seen what they actually do.

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

I may have an opportunity to bury a conduit/sleeve for future ethernet and other runs in my yard. Getting wired up for internet service, and they will trench down around twelve inches to bury their line. If I happen to have a 100-foot section of 1.5 inch plastic pipe at hand, I might just be...

best, long lasting micro SD card in 2021?

Perhaps it's "risk sharing". Given a failure rate, the cost of warranty for that duration would make the product pricier than most people would be willing to pay. Five years warranty signals it is a decent product, and still priced attractively. Will do nicely for my new cams.

Blue Iris Windows 11 or Windows Server?

A fact to add to this discussion, based on personal experience. In 2011 I purchased from Newegg a Windows 7 Pro OEM license, and installed it on a new build. Eventually this build aged out and I set it aside. In mid-2022 I built a new PC. I had read in a forum that an OEM Windows license...

5441F-AS-E2 (aka Boobie cam) - Front door camera - 2.8 mm or 3.6 mm?

Working on increasing the number of cameras, as well as types of cameras (as many of us are doing these days). Ready for a two-lens 5441F-AS-E2 (aka Boobie cam) front door camera, which will also serve as a face-level Identify camera as people walk up six steps to reach the front door six feet...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

Thanks for the suggestion on the HP 9610 PoE+ switch. I ordered it on ebay, just a different listing @$65. Your commentary on the value proposition got me thinking - my current and only PoE switch is not enterprise class, is six times the HP 9610 listing price, is half the power budget, and 16...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

The idea of running fiber is growing on me. Looks like a media converter is needed at either end, which is doable. Have to figure out how to run the physical cable in the existing empty 3/4" conduit already in the ground. Line of sight not feasible. An enterprise class switch is interesting...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

In that case my set up might look like this: - BI switch @wiring center to intermediate switch approx 100 feet (actually lesser) - intermediate switch inside crawl space just before outdoor junction box and around 300 feet of conduit - junction box at other end of said conduit, camera less...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

What amount of power does a PoE port need to be able to supply, to connect a camera with a 500-foot ethernet cable run? Actual run may be 450-500 feet, just planning for some margin because actual cable footage adds up by the time an install is in place. Cable to be pulled in existing in-ground...

Good deal Annke 180 degree dual 1/1.8 for $220?

Edit: this entire post is edited/replaced to increase its utility to the next person who reads it. I am summarizing what I learned in deploying the Annke I91BH/ Hikvision DS-2CD2387G2P-LSU/SL. This camera hit my radar by way of a recent “can’t recommend enough” post, which pointed to this...

Good deal Annke 180 degree dual 1/1.8 for $220?

Just received this turret camera, took it out of the box, and put it to work on test bench on window sill. First impression: like the image I am seeing as overview camera, may get more. If I went looking for it, possible I would find the image stitching, just haven't looked. Image proportions...

    Ryzen 3950x for Blue Iris

Found my way to this thread by way of an extraordinarily well written section of the Wiki, "But what CPU do I actually buy?", under "Choosing Hardware for Blue Iris." It helped me get a meaningful grasp of CPU utilization, which I appreciate in particular because my CPU selection for several PC...

I had shortlisted that unit, reached out to Andy for a price, and he said he does not have any in stock. It's $370 at B&H, which seems high. Good to hear fans are quiet. Thanks. Edit/correction: The model number of the unit I had found "LR2226-24ET-360" is similar but slightly different. It may...

    Vari-focal vs fixed-lens?

We all have a common interest in light since we are making images/video and are deploying cameras for that purpose. I have a growing interest in night images because of my site conditions, and because it has been pointed out in threads here that daytime images are easy, test for night images...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

Need a second PoE switch for my cameras, prompted by the realization that on the network I need to separate cameras and BI PC with a second NIC on the BI PC. Vari-focal vs fixed-lens?

Recently I got advice similar to, "Remember to test the locations both night and day time." from another forum member, and it is right on. Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

I take it that no routing is needed below the BI PC because the cameras are assigned static IPs. From your post in a different thread yesterday (where you provided a link to this thread), NIC#1 in above @samplenhold diagram could be a Wifi NIC connecting to Wireless Access Points which connect...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Great thread, of course will have to re-read. Key realization for me is that it is not just the BI PC that has to be isolated, but the entire eco-system of cameras. The first thing that stood out for me is that I'll need to change how my cameras are physically connected. I have an ISP...

New internet service coming - VPN options

Perfect, thank you. If I can simplify things with a hardware solution, I am for it. Aside: in my (BI PC) case, there is a mini-ITX motherboard which has the solitary PCI slot used for the video card, and a mini-PCI slot used for the Wi-Fi module (came that way). Possibly I could extract the...

New internet service coming - VPN options

If dual NIC moves the cause forward I could go for it, because current hardware will eventually need a re-build (same case and power supply, new mobo, CPU & cooler, memory and perhaps video card, OS license transfers). Would appreciate if someone can point me to a reading on how to deploy dual...
