    install related questions

As I read through the forums, a couple of install related questions came up 1) many cams are installed directly in the elements: sun and rain. I understand about coating the connectors with dielectric paste. My question is specifically about the cam lens and image being seen. For example...

Other than some basic settings I changed while playing around, for the most part they are at their default settings. My firmware is dated 2017. As suggested, I'll do a factory reset...

I bought the following wire pull kit from harbor freight. The price is right and the product works really well. They come in two sizes. One for 11ft kit, the other is 33ft kit. OpenVPN on Ubiquiti USG gateway

AWESOME !!! thank you for that confirmation @saltfish I will start that configuration. From my reading, found that, Ubiquiti “accepted” the suggestion of openVPN configuration, to be added natively to their USG GUI over two years ago but have not implemented it as of yet. Very happy to see I...

Need advice between Dahua IPC-HFW1831C-PIR 4k and Dahua IPC-HDW2231RP-ZS Starlight Camera-Varifocal.

just a couple of points of feedback. 1) Yes, BI will give you far greater flexibility than an NVR. Find a low end (3rd gen or greater i5) SFF (small form factor) desktop from dell, hp, or Lenovo to name a few. They are widely available through ebay. They can be had for $185 to $225 US...

    Loud?

From reading the description of the link you provided, I didn't see anything about it having a fan, quite possible I may have missed it. I did search through the posted questions for that product and someone specifically asked if it has a fan and there was a reply of a 'no'. So, based on that...

    Loud?

what are your PoE needs? there are different (in some case, cheaper) solutions. Typically, 8 port (PoE and standard) are fanless, including the one you linked so not quite sure where the noise factor is coming from. Check into BV-Tech brand for their offerings. They are a much better deal than...

Dahua DB11 Summary - is this best doorbell for now?

@silencery - good info, thanks for posting. Most, at one point or another end up having the need for a door cam. There appears to be nothing (PoE, ONVIF) available to be a solid solution. Keep us posted here of your experience, say three months down the road. As for me, I went with HFW1831C as...

agreed. most dell, hp, Lenovo, etc. SFF desktops with a reasonably aged i5 makes a great BI machine. I have access to microcenter PC store and time to time see their sales of refurb machines that range from $185 - $225 which includes windows 10 with i5 cpu.

    NUC pc's

LOL - thanks guys. One of the many things I’ve learned here is to use/get an eBay optiplex for BI. Regarding NUC, It was just an out of curiosity question of how it is configured, internally. It is deployed at our factories where they do a lot of product scanning at our Texas facility. Just...

    NUC pc's

Hey All, Has anyone use of these "NUC" extremely small form factor PCs? They come in i3,i5 and i7 flavors. They are fanless. I've seen one of our vendors deploy these in the factory. The top of the case is a fin style heatsink, which explains why these devices are fanless. Question - so, how...

routing cables thru attic to garage - seeking advice

@bababouy - There is an entry door from garage to the house. I plan on cutting the hole over that door, about a foot below the unfinished ceiling in the garage. @tangent - I will take some pics. The drawings, blueprints are works in progress, I am no where near having a usable picture of my house :p …. but yes, there will only be a POE switch in the garage and one data cable will be routed to the home office to a PC running Blue Iris. I debated for a...
