    Cat5e Fishing Advise

Welcome Dunn. One idea is to use PVC boards to mount your cameras. "Using Home Depot PVC to install outdoor cameras" I also saw a post where someone fastens the cams to flat stock and slips it into the channel where the soffit sits. You can slide the stock around to find the best camera...

    New PC’s for the office

Licenses could be an issue for Office too. MS may have a deal for Small Business if you buy five licenses etc. Enterprises deploy software in a batch from a server or one source so that may be a better option than loading several discs one by one on each machine. I used to refurb computers...

    Suggestions on ethernet cable

This. Monoprice or Cables Matter have a good rep and some are available on Amazon. Pre-terminated will be harder to run in walls, etc. if that matters. Yes, solid copper, not CCA as @looney2ns posted, especially for in-wall installation. Stranded copper is more flexible and generally used...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

The 5040's and 3050 I bought only have HDMI and Display Port for video out. I forgot to mention, a lot of the OEM manufacturers encoded the OS COA into the hardware (BIOS/mobo) so reinstalling is usually painless. Unfortunately MS has ended the free WIN 10 upgrade period, but you would be...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

Yes, the cost of building a workstation is more than buying one ready to go. Correct, BI does not support H.265 now, but I chose to go with an i5-6500 rather than a 4th gen processor so i won't have to upgrade if/when H.265 is added.

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

Have you read the Wiki linked by @looney2ns ? The newer generation processors use less energy and are coupled with better chipsets. Read the Wiki about about H.265 acceleration. Timing and research has a lot to do with the good deals, if you have that luxury and desire. Some people do not...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

The best deals I've found are eBay, and local classified sources (Craigslist, Offer Up, Let Go). I don't know if HP has an outlet store. Sometimes the Dell Outlet has decent deals on off-lease/returns/refurb computers including workstations, but as posted before the best deals go quick.

Good info, thanks for doing the testing.

Got robbed... looking for ideas to make me more secure

POS thieves. Good it wasn't worse. At least a couple beers for the neighbor! Looks like he scared them off before they had a chance to really snoop through the garage, or find the Accord key.

Good thinking by your neighbor to call for her husband. Hope they catch the SOB.

My Reolink C1 Pro front door camera

I just saw this posted in another thread by @Philip Gonzales :"https://www.amazon.com/Amcrest-Splitter-Adapter-802-3af-compliant/dp/B00CDT7KPO/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref_=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp&tag=ipctk-20" Just what the doctor ordered for this cam. Edit: I see the C1 takes a...

Switching from WiFi to wired, can someone help?

@Philip Gonzales Thanks for posting the POE adapter! I commented on this thread earlier about a Reolink C1 cam with two-way audio that supports RJ-45 but not POE. This adapter opens up some possibilities for front door conversations.

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

Also avoid the T or U suffix processors. The wiki on this forum covers the details on computer specs and will be very helpful. Workstations are designed to run 24/7 in a business environment. Many of the Optiplex workstations I've looked at still have some of the Dell warranty remaining. The...

Thanks. Nice to have the wired option. Too bad it isn't POE capable; looks like it would make a good alternative for a doorbell cam.

How large a drive can I use in my NVR?

Yes. I would install the drive and see what happens. You can reference the conversation with the tech to justify the return. Two 4TB drives are just a bit more than one 6TB.

Looking for a camera security system.

The installers spec'd 4MP cameras because 4 MP is the sweet price point right now, and many consumers go off MP only. MP is not the only characteristic you should look at for cameras. You have the answer from this forum and the Dahua rep - the best camera is what will work for a specific...

Looking for a camera security system.

As shown in the many threads and sample captures on this forum and YouTube- it depends. What is the purpose of the cam, what is the location, how much lighting is in the FOV, etc, etc. The camera portion of your security plan should address specific needs based on your house and surrounding...

Looking for a camera security system.

Hikvision (or Dahua) cams have their name on them. OEM means Hikvision (or Dahua) made the cam for someone else to sell with another name (LTS, etc) or no name (unbranded). The OEM version 'may' differ from the branded model depending on what the reseller specifies. LTS may have their own...

Looking for a camera security system.

Wow, waiting over 3 months to get an updated quote. When did the installer decide he didn't use Dahua products? Searching the forum for LTS will give you a general idea of what folks think of their products and service. LTS uses Hikvision products, and Nelly's Security (a forum vendor) has...

    Wall of shame

Mmmm I like spaghetti. I have seen some places try to order different length patch cables, and the supply folks say 'well the 12' cable is just a bit more, so it's a better deal'. Not such a deal when you have to work in that mess.
