Ip cam for owl nest box

There's some variable lens Dahua cams available like this one for less than $100. I've no experience with them but they have the ability to manually zoom in or out and focus.

    Considering buying Dahua equipment

I have the NVR4116-P and it's great. Although if I was to do it again I'd go for external POE as you can't access the cameras directly. You have to go through the NVR and can't change all of the settings. The cameras are all plug and play with the NVR. I've never had a problem with any of the...

Lets add another Postal carrier Throwing packages

It was actually snot and to spit it somewhere right in someones walk way rather than waiting until you get on the street 5 seconds later is more of a dick move. It wasn't just an ordinary piece of snot. I can imagine what would happen to me if I spat on a customers property at my job.

Lets add another Postal carrier Throwing packages

Here's the clip we sent the company. It's not like he damaged anything or or stole something but you'd at least expect someone to treat your property with respect and not leave a green surprise for you to step in when you get home. It landed inside our covered porch area (this reminds me, I...

Lets add another Postal carrier Throwing packages

I should have been a bit more specific, it's New Zealand and here package deliveries are performed by contractors who get paid by the delivery. He would have missed out on only a few dollars. We complained as no one has the right to come on your property and do that sort of thing in your front...

    Bill from DHL

I don't think it's realistic that a retailer/distributor in China can be responsible for knowing the import laws of hundreds of countries. Every country is different and laws change. If anything it should be Aliexpress who update their site so that if you are shipping to a particular country it...

Lets add another Postal carrier Throwing packages

I came home one day and found a bright green glob of snot on the front step near a package that had been delivered. Check the cams and sure enough it was the driver. Footage was provided to the company and he had his pay docked. I'll see if I can dig out the footage and post will post it.

Please, advice about Dahua 3MP ip camera

Without climbing up to look at it, all I can see is on the order and it says it's a 2014 model.

Please, advice about Dahua 3MP ip camera

Something else to consider too if you have a built in POE switch in the NVR is that you can't access the cameras directly from your network. So if you go for non-dahua cams you may never be able to update the settings from the NVR.

Please, advice about Dahua 3MP ip camera

I have tested some other non branded cheap cameras on my NVR4116 and I haven't really had any problems. As long as they are h.264 compliant they will be ok, but you may run into trouble using motion detect with non Dahua branded cams. Having said that they work my advice would be to stick with...

New Member - Got my Cameras and now onto Home Security~!

In the perfect world, Alarm goes off, security company checks your cameras, calls the police, monitors the cameras and points the police to where the intruder is hiding. But then I guess this probably doesn't come at $10 a month.

What gear is commonly used to put an outdoor wired camera on a wireless network?

    +1 for the Ubiquity - it's fantastic.

Raspberry as storage for my videos

Yeah i plan to install some PIR sensors to email snapshots, and maybe hook up a door bell which emails me a pic of who's at the door.

Raspberry as storage for my videos

I'll post them up later when I get home from work. The Pi does a few other things as well - it monitors my network and alerts me when there are problems.

    Dahua 4mp, 6mm turrets (IPC-HDW4421C)

I've ordered the 4431c-a which I assume is the newer version of this. Chinese Firmware only available. I am a bit worried as the seller is sending it via Swedish Post, but I'm in New Zealand. Couldn't get any further away if it tried!

    Sub forum to post scripts

I'd be interested in a sub forum for scripts - I have a few Python scripts I use on my Raspberry Pi that I use to grab images from my Dahua Cams which are ftped offsite. I'm keen to see what other people have as well.

Raspberry as storage for my videos

I should have added I do actually use one for grabbing images from my 6 cams every minute and ftping them offsite. I use a custom Pythn script to do this and it handles this without a problem.

Raspberry as storage for my videos

There are a few You Tube clips of people using them as NVRs - I can't remember the name of the software but it's definitely not iSpy. I'm not sure how successful they have been. They would probably be ok for recording and storing alerts but I wouldn't think they would be fast enough to write to...

I've just ordered a Dahua 4431c turret which is h.265 so they are definitely offering it in their new cams.

Dahua 4104-P peeps and error HD LED lights up

Did you get this fixed? I have a 4116-p and never have these problems. Have you checked to see that your HD is compatible there is a list of compatible drives that you can find by doing a Google search. I got a 2tb Western Digital Purple drive.

    BI Support Plans

This actually sounds quite reasonable then if it includes the major updates. I went down the NVR route as I could get the whole system for about $US150 with no ongoing costs, as opposed a dedicated PC and Blue Iris at more than 3 times the cost. The problem with the NVR solution is that you are...

    BI Support Plans

I'm a bit confused. Is it $30 for year one two and three, or is it $59 up front, and then $30 for year 2 and 3 making it $119 all up.

    BI Support Plans

It seems like a terrible model to charge an upfront cost, and then ongoing costs to get updates. It seems like a better model to go completely subscription or not. This seems to be double dipping. Perhaps a better model would be to look at a home use and commercial use - eg $59 for a home user...

IPC-HDBW4421R-AS - new model 4mp turret (no pics)

Just ordered a IPC-HDBW4421R-AS from Aliexpress. Seems to be a new model turret with 4mp, built in mic, h.265, poe etc... Haven't managed to find much about it but will hopefully be all good as the 4300c seems to be an excellent camera. Will post some pics and videos when it arrives.

    Wifi Camera recommendations/input

For residential I'd agree that going budget is probably ok, but we have all seen video on Facebook and the news where businesses are trying to identify a thief and all you see is a blocky image that no one is going to recognize. Mini PTZ 2nd Gen: 2016 PTZ Camera of the year!

You would think so, because in reality that's all the web interface is doing - controllng the camera with scripts. There must be some sort of standard for PTZ controls because there you can control multiple different cameras from NVRs, Apps and PC Software.
