Can I change the Native Home position on a cheap Chinese camera?

You might be able to set a schedule in BI to call it to that preset every so often, basically keeping it there.

Where to install cameras and what focal length

Because numbers are dumb and they run together.

Where to install cameras and what focal length

Z4E is too zoomed in, so IR count is not relevant. That is why I suggested the -ZE turret variant of 2.7mm-12mm. Turrets are like eyeballs and can be almost infinitely adjusted. I have them mounted vertically on walls and horizontally under soffits.

Criminal spy camera inside Logitech mouse

Yes. It is all possible. All of it. Every single question. Anyone who wants to manipulate mouse firmware or install a hidden camera will put in the time and effort to do it. Is it plausible? Not at all. There are way more efficient ways of gathering screen information than a camera in a mouse.

    Stupid Question.....

1 good camera is better than 2 less than good cameras. Look at empiretech01.com. They are Dahua cams rebranded for the consumer market. I am not sure if he ships to the UK from his web store, but he does sell on UK Amazon. These are the cameras most here use. T54IR-AS or T54IR-ZE

Where to install cameras and what focal length

He has one, and it does not have a low enough focal length for his use. The ZE is 2.7-12mm, the Z4E is 8-32mm

He just had ZEs on there the other day. You may have been too slow. One thing with the triple lens is they all adjust in unison, so you get what you get and if you want a slightly different tilt or angle adjustment up close or far away, it's not possible.

Here is a neighbor on the path, slower and more in the 53-55' range. I feel the focus is a little past this point though and it would be nice if it were adjustable.

For reference, here is a mower about 40-45' away. It's 55' to the middle of the path behind him. Keep in mind he was moving at a pretty good pace, so that lowered the quality some. 4MP would be much better, but this thing also puts out so much IR compared to what a ZE, Z4E, or Z12E will. I run...

Where to install cameras and what focal length

The -Z4E is a good camera, but you're right, it starts at 8mm. You will want the T54IR-ZE that ranges from 2.7mm-12mm. The -Z4E is a good choice for for distance though; if you wanted to watch over the pool house with a camera mounted on the house. 8ft can be an ok install height depending on...

Same. It's usable, but 4MP is so much better. I made some changes last night but rain kept me from doing too much with it. It would be much easier if I had someone to just walk back and forth for me instead of making a change, walk out, make a pass, walk back in, look at the clip, walk out...

I moved it down, maybe 18" from the ground, to try and shoot the IR up beneath the tree branches. I changed exposure and gain to 16/20. It seems to be better, but not great; definitely the low end of recognize. I'll mess with it some more.

Can I change the Native Home position on a cheap Chinese camera?

My first thought is to move it where you want it via the Monitor screen, and then click Submit to save it as a preset. The question is then how to get it to return to that position by default on start up. Maybe look through the System options?

"I want 2.8mm cameras everywhere to see everything..." - This is why you need specific FOVs with purposeful focal lengths.

A lot of how many comes down to the shape of the house and what you need to cover. If you have a 1960s ranch, you're likely going to need less because of the rectangular shape. If you have a newer truss construction home, it will probably be a random shape and you will need to cover more corners...

Hard to say any more; they multiply like rabbits. Somewhere between 20 and 100 at this point.

Can I change the Native Home position on a cheap Chinese camera?

This would likely be set in the camera's settings and not BI. I had a Foscam PTZ I used as a baby monitor and was able to set presets in the UI, and then call out which one it would go to on start up. Can you post some screenshots of the camera's UI?

Any thoughts on camera settings that could make a difference before I move it down low and try that? Or that could make a difference if I slide it down to around 7' or so. I am hoping down low and shooting up under the tree makes a difference. It will possibly make the Near view useless, but oh...

I have tried 0-16 with 20 gain, and it didn't help much, so I decided to go faster with more gain based on @wittaj 's settings. Exposure comp isn't meant to do anything when you're running Manual settings. It will make changes in some firmware, but all it is doing is adjusting the exposure and...

I hate waiting so long for it to get dark, but not much I can do about it other than complain. Here is what I have so far and I don't know what to do. I trimmed the trees back, but not sure how much more I want to trim them. I know they're a problem, but I also don't want to completely strip...

Ultimately the goal is to have one of these on either side of the gate, covering the approach from both directions of the path. I went ahead and ordered the second one, even though the first one isn't fantastic at night for me. I am attributing the performance to maybe a less than ideal install...
