    Canadian wild fires

Living in the Pacific Northwest, we've been subjected to wildfire smoke regularly almost every summer. Occasionally it's as thick as fairly thick fog. All I know to do is stay inside and run HEPA filters. It would be hell without an air conditioner. There's usually a break for a day every so...

    UNIFI—The Best Option...?

I don't know if you're overall right or not, but you do have a good list of arguments. Pitchforks not needed for valid questions and discussions. The obvious thing that will be pointed out is for the sensor size, a 4MP sensor is probably a better choice.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Interesting how the press releases don't tell you that this largest tax hike was set in place by the republicans a few years ago. I think the cuts back then were good, but I don't like that they were passed thanks to smoke and mirrors accounting.

    EU follies

Without more specificity I have to disagree with you on this one. The education aspect is more complex. Sure, the voters should know how the government really functions instead of it being the R and D teams playing in a sports contest. After basic education, it has more to do with respect...

    EU follies

One description of a democracy is 3 wolves and a lamb voting on who will be dinner tonight. The US constitution is structured to prevent smaller states from being bullied or taken over by larger states. Consider if the EU government was totally taken over by the most populous countries, then...

    World War III

Does anybody have an accurate count of how many nations have been invaded by Russia vs. USA/NATO in the last 50 or so years? If NATO is in Ukraine, then it must be ok for the Russian military to be in Canada and/or Mexico, right? Really a simple comparison.

How about a duel? Maybe ticket sales could pay off the national debt.

I still can't be convinced that Putin should accept NATO at his border. Does that make me a nazi lover?

Watching this is better than any of the crap TV shows. A real modern-day bar fight.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Yes, and that's the problem. They always package good and bad stuff together, brag about the good stuff, and hide the bad stuff. They will never let you have any good stuff unless you agree to accepting more bad stuff. Even when the good and bad isn't in the same bill they find a way to force...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

There are so many "important" people with their own personal agendas that it's difficult to believe any of them. In the political sphere, it seems like no matter who we support we're somehow getting screwed. There are a very, very few exceptions, and they never garner enough followers to have...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I tell the wife and kids that civilizations come and go. We're on the downslope of ours and have to do the best we can for ourselves as the whole thing slides downhill. After seeing a few insurance and car repair quotes the last few days, I can't see how typical working people can make ends meet.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I assume you know this will never happen. With few exceptions the politicians don't want it, and most of the general population cares only about how much can I get, right now. The economy is in an obvious death spiral and it continues to astound me how long they are able to keep the balls in...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I do want to see the Trump tax cuts extended but I'm appalled by the standard DC politician deception. When it was originally passed, they used the budget gimmick of automatic expiration to falsely report its cost. Now they're saying if it isn't extended it's a huge tax increase. That's...

And according to the specs, it's still too dumb for IVS to trigger on animals.

Tips for a successful termination with RJ-45 connector

OK, just like multiple ways of terminating cables, multiple ways of interpreting some sentences. Throwing out my own opinion, unless there's a darned good reason, minimizing connection points is my #1 priority. On a different subject, I've found the "insert" type of RJ45s to be every bit as...

Tips for a successful termination with RJ-45 connector

Seriously? I don't think that would have worked out well for my 100 to 300 foot runs,, plus patch cables aren't intended for permanent wiring. Because of their flexibility they don't work well for horizontal runs with spaced-out supports.

Need camera mounted 100 feet from building.

I don't consider a POE switch to be special, they are pretty common and readily available. You can also use a POE injector that goes between the switch and camera to insert power. Personally I prefer to use a POE switch, it's just simpler. The majority of cameras represented on this forum are...

Need camera mounted 100 feet from building.

I use solid copper 23AWG cable in PVC conduit. Almost all of my cameras are more than 100' from the POE switch, some pushing 300', with no signal problems. If you choose to run 12 volt power instead of using POE, the power cable must be heavier gauge wire because of the higher current at 12...

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Maybe not. But when I walk through it, it triggers. I know right away because I have the camera set to play a barking dog audio when it's triggered.

It's the 4k-x. The rule sensitivity was on 10, but global was on 8. I cranked it up to 10, and while I was in there turned the placebo target filter setting off again. I'm not holding out any hope of it working better. If the target filters were really off, I don't think the overhead view...

Failed experiment. The deer in the picture walked the entire width of the camera view with no triggers. I did get a few triggers from tall blowing grass.

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Well that's a damned if you do, damned if you don't choice! Keep the nicer image, or maybe detect animals while messing up the image, and if you don't like it, can't go back. My instinct is to chicken out, at least for now. I'm using both tripwire and intrusion. For the heck of it, I just...

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Hmmm, your 4k-x firmware is 3 years newer than mine. I'd like to try it, but your version 2.840.0000000.28R is newer than what's on Andy's web site 2.840.0000000.26. Do you remember where you got it from?

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Andy, the cameras I mentioned as well as others will not turn off the target filter. The user interface has a switch to turn it off, it gets turned off in the camera's config file, but the object filters do not get turned off. Animals can walk through the field of view all day long and never...

Are you saying that the new cameras will actually turn off the target filter, unlike the 5442s, 5842s, T180s etc. that won't turn it off?

Would a Properly Wired House for Security Cameras Increase its Value?

IMO this is the answer. When my house was new 16 years ago, the only wiring was 2 telephone outlets and a lot of cable TV coax. Regular people are supposed to use only wifi and cordless phones. I can hardly think of anybody I know who connects their computer with a network cable. Cameras...
