    HOA Approvals for camera installation

Auto tracking is gimmicky and definitely a bit creepy for many people. I bet if the OP's PTZ wasn't auto tracking everybody that walked by they wouldn't have had such a negative reaction. There are many instances where it is useless and will track the wrong thing, causing missed evidence...

R/C vehicle to pull CAT5 cable through crawlspace?

I checked and the RC truck the guy in the video used retails for $200. Sweet way to turn some RC gear into a tax deduction and play with toys at work.

    12 Camera System 2017

Don't go with Ubiquiti cams just because you have some of their other gear. Their network stuff is excellent. Their cams? Not so much. I use their wireless gear to tie in multiple brands of cameras to my BI servers.

Best settings for a more fluid live view ?

Depends on the phone and which software you're using. Try switching to viewing the substream and if the sluggishness goes away then your phone and/or software isn't fast enough. Try Tiny Cam for viewing, it's pretty efficient and can wring more performance out of older phones. Also, check to see...

Replaced 1080p TV with gaming monitor.

My last house was built in the early 60s for folks that grew up in the country and didn't want what passed for city traffic in those days to look in. All you could see looking out were trees and clouds unless you stood close and peered down, and I'm 6'. I like being able to see out when I want...

    Backyard camera orientation suggestion

The HDBW cams are domes. While I don't hate domes outdoors, I only like them when they're sheltered and have external illumination. Internal IR on outdoor domes tends to cause lots of problems. Stick with a turret if possible.

Replaced 1080p TV with gaming monitor.

Exactly- hearing a noise at night and instantly (or almost instantly) being able to see what's going on outside is great. Someone trespassing? See them instantly. Kids doing something they shouldn't? You're on it. Surprise company coming? 30 second headstart.

Replaced 1080p TV with gaming monitor.

Once you get used to seeing what's outside all around you when you're inside you'll never want to go back. My last house had the windows purposely installed a bit higher than normal for "privacy". Drove me nuts when the kids were outside playing until I put in the cameras with a central monitor.

    Bullet Mic Review

The easiest way is to add another cheap IP camera with a built-in mic in close proximity with the existing one and clone the audio from one into the other (Blue Iris does this easily in Camera Properties->Audio->Another camera) and record it along with the video stream. Either that or replace...

Hikvision article in the Wall St. Journal

Thx for the screenshot. Darkfighters _are_ nice, BTW. I have one. I've also mounted one of the IPC-HDW5231R-Z Starlight varifocal domes next to one and compared them for a day or so at more-or-less-stock settings except for being locked at 1/60th exposure rate at night. Given the cost...

    This morning under our carport

I read this and thought "Hey, great idea for my captures!". Nope. Apparently our police force doesn't have one. Shame on us. Something like the Bangor PD's page would be great. If nobody has heard of it, they've got some fantastic posts. The guy that does it is phenomenal. There're some real...

    This morning under our carport

At least it saves the homeowners money. They don't have to turn on THEIR additional lighting until 2:59am... :) Seriously though, when does it get light there? 5:30? 6? I can't imagine they save a ton of money on electricity by shutting them off at 3, especially if they're LED. And apart from...

    Aliexpress 11.11 deals

Gotta love "specials". It says 21% off but in reality it's like 29 cents. Same camera, same store, different listing but shown side by side when you search AliExpress for IPC-HDW4431C-A The $47-ish price is fairly close to what everybody else is selling those cams for anyway. Some are in the...

In Love w/IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 - Same Quality?

+1 on the HDW5231R-Z for that location. No screwing up the lens choice because it'll adjust perfectly to what you want, plus have better night performance than the fixed lens variants. Also, experiment with a different location and orientation, like on the end wall to the left of the current...

Weird intermittent blackouts with dahua starlight 5231's

As far as TinyCam saying they're not hitting anywhere near those rates, if you're hooked up to TinyCam on a less-than-stellar mobile device, particularly with wifi, it's almost certainly the device that's not capable of displaying the full frame rate of the cameras. Instead of just watching the...

Replaced 1080p TV with gaming monitor.

It's hard to beat the clarity of a good monitor that's designed to display text crisply from a distance of two feet all day. I've got a 2560x1440 27" at home that's just perfect for 4mp cams, although most are low-light 2mp stuff. I barely bother trying to judge the picture quality from posts on...

Homeowner shoots thief rummaging through truck

Somebody faking a video for clickbait. As previously said, no muzzle flash. Also fake dive, he goes sideways after being shot without going back first, plus windmilling his flashlight without dropping it? The trenchcoat seals it though. As far as production value goes, he's got zero lighting...

Note the mention of the DORI system in the description on Dahua's site. The 4 zones of visual quality defined in ppf or ppm. Detection, observation, recognition, and identification. Here's a snoozer of a presenter explaining things on YouTube. He presents the zones in decreasing order of...
