I Ordered an Axis Communications Axis Q1808-LE Camera

Looking good my friend. Are you planning on running the Axis Plate Verifier with this one ? Not cheap for the license BUT it does do a good job. Of course if you're running them through OPENALPR or other Middleware, heck even NVR AI processing then no need.

Exactly the way. Have plate capture set on 1 cam to make sure you get key evidential information then have your secondary and tertiary cams for identifying features (model, color, make etc) then I also advocate for a PTZ (depending on deployment, target requirements, threat model to location...

The great thing about this forum and community we're all part of is that with us all continuing to share settings, configs, deployments etc, we all not only expand our knowledge BUT also find break points, bugs etc that in feeding those back, give us better products like these S3's for example :)

Dahua did do a white paper on a 'Timed Exposure' (or something similar) AI algorithm at one point and how they were looking at a feature they would be implementing around this (about 1 year ago). It basically would go beyond WDR / HDR on steroids. However, that white paper disappeared and...

Well, Steve was kindly sharing that by using that setup you can sometimes get the car details with plate captures too, in other words best of both worlds (not having to compromise just capturing plates and losing vehicle details etc). Which like I said, in certain environments and target...

@wittaj Yes WDR OFF is the better one. As mentioned, unfortunately what Steve kindly shared is VERY situation dependent. Although I've tried this before when testing LPR and never got the desired results for the specific (and challenging) deployments, I did want to revisit too. For example in...

Yes depends on your distance to target for sure. Shame there is no Z12 on 4MP / 8MP. Just move your house closer to the road, sorted ! ;)

Couple of notes: You have to be careful when you're mentioning 5442, remember that series has been around forever. ANPR is NOT supported, NOT implemented on the S1 or S2 models of 5x42 cameras, period. However the new S3 cameras DO support ANPR (I showed how you can check the cam capabilities...

Yes, my goal was to see how far I could push the Z4 variant and like you, initially I thought this was going to be an impossible challenge only due to the sharpening and artifacting / noise seen out of the box. However, I knew I could do something with it so set the task of dialing in over 3...

Hahah, thanks for the kind words as always. It really was an interesting one for me with these cams. As you all know, I dial systems in on a regular basis but these cams DO need a LOT of tweaking in the sharpness, gamma, areas which was the real part of this challenge. I should (could in future)...

All, hope everyone had a great weekend. I wanted to post this video I took using the new S3 cams (EmpireTech B58IR-Z4E-S3 4K Bullet Camera, Dahua HFW5842E-Z4E-S3) I’ve been testing. You can BUT this is doable on these cams and the 5x-XI NVR's it's just not implemented properly yet. The 7xxx have always been phenomenal for VMD + their optics are higher quality (depending on build series etc) As I mentioned, ANPR is supported by the cams, just not fully baked, yet.

One other thing I would like to see done (this is a very little thing but would be nice) is that when cam's are placed into B&W mode, all bets are off for 'real' color. Therefore have it show Unknown (B&W mode used) or something like that rather than the Gray, Black, White etc that you see...

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

Yep and as mentioned, shame the Plate No. while clearly captured (in stream on cam as I showed before) as a plate is not processed on the NVR, instead showing Plate Unknown. Therefore you end up with LPR/NPR, not ALPR/ANPR. With that said you CAN do that with AI By Recorder on XI's etc which...
