Security Notification- Buffer Overflow Vulnerability in Some Hikvision IP Cameras

For what it's worth, it looks like the full technical details of the vulnerability will be released in 90 days: Response to Hikvision’s recent publication regarding a vulnerability found by VDOO researchers This same group has recently found vulnerabilities in Foscam, Axis and other IoT devices.

Good app to view 4MP cameras on Amazon Fire box?

I use iVMS-4500 on my Android devices—is this available on Amazon’s device?

Ghosting; clock feezing then jumping forward

I concur. If they installed the system (and are incompetent) and can’t get it right, send it back.

    IVMS-4500 Defaults to Fluent

Interesting. I have the opposite “issue.” I have limited bandwidth and prefer iVMS-4500 always use Fluent. While I can pick Clear as needed, it will stay on Clear forever until I switch it back—and this is a problem when my cellular bandwidth is insufficient to support a Clear stream.

    Meltdown and Spectre

While this is true, most hacks are related to an attacker exploiting a hole in your system to run his code—so the risk is the same it’s always been and there’s just another avenue for exploit code to get its work done. Yes, your 150USD IP camera is not a high value target, but once this becomes...

Is there an alternative to ivMS-4200

Is the web interface an option? What about something Android-based that runs the iVMS-4500 app?

    5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions

Thank you for taking the time to create this. Does the ML in the file name denote a language? The official firmware uses EN. Also, might I run into any issues if I try to revert to the OEM firmware? How about upgrading to a future updated OEM firmware? Sorry for my ignorance here.

Hikvision ip camera ds-2cd2020f-i rebooting all the time

How do you know it’s rebooting?

    5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions

Any chance of creating a patched 5.5.0 versus 5.4.5? While I fear upgrading Hikvision firmware, I fear Hikvision’s constant security issues more.

    5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions

I still have the issues, which pings resolve. Most of my cameras are R6 and running 5.5.0, so I didn’t bother trying your firmware.

    Hikvision R6 'Cube" DS-2CD2442FWD-IW

FWIW, I have no seemingly related issues here with a few DS-2CD2442FWD-IWs running V5.5.0 build 170725. While my cameras are DHCP, I do have reservations for them, but I don’t use Wi-Fi.

    Sadly, trying pinging every minute.

See 5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions for details—it sounds like you might be experiencing the same issue.

HIKVISION random connection loss (only power reset helps)

If you see nothing in the logs, then your issue is likely different than mine.

HIKVISION random connection loss (only power reset helps)

I'm not certain why. You might want to check the logs of your cameras. You might be experiencing the issue more than you know.

HIKVISION random connection loss (only power reset helps)

As I said, I have had connectivity issues due to this problem—the issues go away when there is constant traffic to the device.
  18. B

HIKVISION random connection loss (only power reset helps)

In my experience, it stops the camera from responding whenever the interface is resetting and this prevents connectivity—I haven’t done enough testing to see how long it takes the interface to reset and how that might also play with Spanning Tree Protocol and related.

HIKVISION random connection loss (only power reset helps)

The newer firmwares are broken—see 5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions for details. Hikvision doesn’t care.

    Hikvision Raspberry Pi?

No issue with IE on Windows 10 (so long as you install their Web Components software if you are accessing the cameras directly).

    5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions

I take this back. Seems the problem still persists, it’s just less consistent. Instead of the network being disconnected every 1-3 minutes, it now happens every five. Guess I still need to ping my cameras, but I won’t have to every minute :/ .

    5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions

Just thought I’d update this thread to say, it appears, 5.5 resolves this issue! Wooohooo! Hikvision didn’t bother to mention it in the “Release Note” though! I’ll reply to this thread again if I’m wrong!

How to enable the CGI functions

I just upgraded one of my cameras (I won’t be updating all of them just yet!)—looks like they added an undocumented tab in Network->Advanced Settings->Integration Protocol for CGI. Check that out.

How to enable the CGI functions

Thanks for the heads up on the recent release of 5.5! While I’m not certain how to resolve your issue, the Release Note mentions the following, which might be of value to you: Default mode of RTSP authentication is Digest in V5.5.0. RTSP authentication would turn to digest when camera is...

    Two passwords for remote playback?

Sounds like a very special requirement—I don’t know of a readily available solution, but one might be out there. You might also have to construct your own. A thought—what about only giving each of these people half of the password?
  27. B

    Two passwords for remote playback?

On the camera itself you can have multiple users—and I believe you can create one that only has “Remote: Playback” access.

Nice sleuthing alastairstevenson! I wonder what the undocumented code for the diagnose item does and it actually appears they might be resetting often as opposed to rebooting, and the flags you noted denote a reboot.

    5.4.5 Network Disconnected Exceptions

For what it’s worth, I just upgraded my DS-2CD2432F-IW to 5.4.5 and it exhibits the same issue—worked without incident prior. I updated the thread title to reflect the firmware version instead of the model of camera... :/
