Google TV (Android TV) app for viewing RTSP streams

Can anyone recommend an app for Google TV (formerly Android TV) so that I can view the rtsp streams from my ip cameras on my smart TV?

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

@mephisto_uk Frigate does require a bit of knowledge about Linux to set up. But I consider myself a newbie and got it working. The discussion forum for Frigate on Github is very active and you can get a lot of help there. Also, I believe version 0.12 will be released soon. From everything I've...

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

I was able to buy two Google Coral TPUs in usb form factor on Amazon from third-party sellers for about $130 each. That's nearly twice the price Google was charging before the pandemic. I hear it is caused by chip shortage too, but this chip shortage has been going on for two years--what is...

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

I agree that the flood light does nothing to deter people. In my case, it is mostly delinquent teenagers. They just ignore it. But the siren gets them moving along.

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

I am a big fan of Frigate NVR and its integration with Home Assistant. The video below was taken by one of my cameras and demonstrates the power of this system. For some context, this camera is on the front of my brownstone which sits about 16 feet back from the sidewalk and up about 10 feet...

I know there are many fans of Blue Iris here. It did not fit my needs. I found the recommendation to turn off Windows updates to get it to run properly something that I could not stomach. Well written software should not force you to compromise on your system's security. Also, the minimum...

@Kevman I use an external housing for a 3.5 inch SATA drive that I connect via USB 3.0--it is a powered housing with a fan. There are actually two two hard drives in the system that I've set up to appear as one on Ubuntu. There is a 6TB drive in the external housing and a 2TB 2.5 inch drive...

This "review" of Frigate by The Hook Up is ridiculous. It is not a review at all. He doesn't even say what version he "reviewed". Frigate is being constantly improved. I suspect he's pushing products that earn him money. As he says, Frigate is free. So there's no money in it for him. What a...

    Your recommendations for a system

I recommend Frigate + Google Coral TPU, I have 7 Dahau ip cameras (or Dahua-clones) connected to a Netgear POE switch, which connects to a Minisforum GK41 with 8TB of storage. The system runs beautifully. Two of my cameras have integrated sirens. Frigate works well with Home Assistant. So when...

I am pretty sure that the current version of Frigate only works with H.264.

    Outdoor POE Camera Recommendations

I recommend getting a mini pc with a dual nic and installing Ubuntu Server. Then install Frigate NVR in a docker container. Both Ubuntu and Frigate are free. Connect one nic to your PoE swtich and the other to your router. Frigate is AMAZING. If you want object detection, like having the...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Hi @isabido I want to control when the camera's siren goes off. My brownstone is currently being renovated and I have a lot of contractors coming in and out the back of the house through the deck. I don't want them to trigger the siren. To prevent them from triggering the siren, I created a...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

With some effort, I have figured out how to get Home Assistant to turn on this camera's siren (or issue any of the other API commands listed in the sources that @TonyR listed above). In case someone else uses Home Assistant and wants to try this out, here's a basic description of what I did...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

@TonyR This is great! Thank you for pointing it out to me. I think I should be able to have Home Assistant run a script that logs into my Ubuntu Server that connects to my ip cameras and execute the curl script to turn on/off the siren.

Okay. I will research IVS rules and figure out how best to do it.

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Is there a way to turn the siren on without being in the camera's web GUI? I'm running Home Assistant and Frigate and it would be ideal if I could turn the siren on if it detects a person.

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Great advice! Thank you again. Also, the siren on the IPC-T5241H-AS-PV is surprisingly loud. I'm sure it will scare away the neighborhood teenagers who congregate on my stoop from time to time.

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Many thank @wittaj Your directions revived my memory. I think when I initialized my other ip cameras, I was using an old Dell computer with two NICs and one of these was attached to my POE which was connected to the ip cameras. Incidentally, do you ever download new firmware for your ip cameras...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

So I plugged these cameras into my router, one at a time. And I pointed my browser to 192.168.1.108, but I get nothing. The router's light for the port which they are connected to doesn't even come on. What am I doing wrong? It's been a while since I initialized an ip camera, but this is what I...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Many thanks @wittaj I will do as you describe. I'll post some photos when I'm finished, hopefully later this week. I had shielded cat6 run throughout my house and now I've been spending my free time putting RJ45 connectors on them. Thank god someone invented passthrough connectors--I can't...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Thanks @wittaj for the fast reply. Just to be clear, this camera still has a microphone and siren functionality using only the RJ45 (i.e., without attaching the additional wires)? Should I cover up these additional wires with some plastic wrap and electrical tape--they are showing bare wire. I'm...

    Alarm input/output on IPC-T5241H-AS-PV ???

Having seen a lot of high praise for the IPC-T5241H-AS-PV, I purchased two of them. When the boxes finally arrived and I opened them up, I was confused to find a cable with 4 wires (brown, green, blue, and gray) in addition to what look an analog audio in/out (plus the RJ45 cable). Has anyone...

    Frigate NVR anyone?

I plan to connect 7 ip cameras to an unmanaged Netgear switch. I'll run an dual NIC mini PC on the 8th switch so the ip cameras will not have direct access to the internet. This is how I had DW Spectrum set up. From what I've read, I think I can do the same thing with Frigate, except I'll plug...

    Frigate NVR anyone?

Yes, you definitely need the Google Coral TPU to do the identification of events, like someone trespassing on your yard as opposed to the tree branch moving in the wind. Otherwise, your CPU will be over taxed.

    Frigate NVR anyone?

I forget what version of BI it was--it was whatever was the most recent as of April 2021. My hardware at the time was an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 with an Intel Core i5-6500 Quad-core processor running at 3.2 GHz with 16GB of DDR4 SDRAM. I had three 4 MP ip cameras and recording both main and sub...

Uisng H.264 is certainly less desirable because it will use more network bandwidth. But if I am only running a handful of ip cameras, will it really be noticeable?

    Frigate NVR anyone?

I think you can run a few ip cameras using a Raspberry Pi 4, but you'll definitely want to have the Google Coral TPU added to it. Here's more: Recommended hardware | Frigate

    Frigate NVR anyone?

I didn't have a good experience with BI. I found it used a lot of power and generated a lot of heat on the old Dell computer. I found DW Spectrum and liked how it split the functions between the server and client. Today I was surfing the web and found Frigate. I'm planning to build out a Home...

Thanks @looney2ns but I already tried that and didn't find much of anything specific. At any rate, there seems to be a useful step-by-step explanation of how to set up Frigate on a dedicated Ubuntu server here: Frigate NVR: Linux Manual Install - digiMoot:

    Frigate NVR anyone?

I've seen a few members (e.g., @Duh987 @hawkeye217) here mention Frigate as an NVR. Does anyone use Frigate for 24/7 recording? If so, what hardware do you use it on? Is it better than some of the expensive commercial systems out there like DW Spectrum/Nx Witness if you're deploying for you home...
