Brick Wall install and Paint - painting IP security camera to blend in

Hi Hermaninthehood! You've inspired me to try the same sort of thing. One question out of curiosity. Why not use a non-expanding spray foam insulation? Wouldn't it fill the hole better than the duct sealer?

how powerful of an Ethernet switch?

When I look at the ip camera's specs, is the listed power consumption the average consumption or max consumption? For example, I have a couple of Dahua N42BJ62 cameras. The vendor's website says they draw 6.6 watts. Is this on average? Or maximum when its using its IR light?

how powerful of an Ethernet switch?

I have seven ip cameras that I plan to run off of a 8-port Netgear unmanaged switch. It has 83 watts of power total and each port can get up to a maximum of 30 watts. Is this strong enough to power my seven IP cameras? None of them are fancy PTZ cameras. Only one is vari-focus. My sense is that...

Duhua 4MP TiOC Network Eyeball Camera 2.8mm

I agree--it will be difficult to identify at the sidewalk, but recognizing at the sidewalk would be fine. For identifying, I care much more about someone trying to get through the door or windows.

Duhua 4MP TiOC Network Eyeball Camera 2.8mm

Thanks flynreelow and wittaj. I hope this isn't TMI... My house is a brick rowhouse (attached on both sides) about 22 feet wide that sits back from the street about 15 feet and up on a hill about 8 feet above the sidewalk. I've got cat6 for the ip cameras at the left and right sides of the...

Duhua 4MP TiOC Network Eyeball Camera 2.8mm

Thanks wittaj. Will the 2MP version of IPC-T5241H-AS-PV allow me to identify individuals at 15 feet? I just need to be able to identify people that get close to my windows in case one of these punks tries to break in.

Duhua 4MP TiOC Network Eyeball Camera 2.8mm

My house is in a bit of a troubled neighborhood. Sometime teenagers from the neighborhood hangout in my front yard when I'm not around. I want can ip camera with two-way audio and a siren. Is the Dahua N43BU82 a good fit for my needs? It has "RCA audio input and output". Do I need to connect...

DW Spectrum (aka NxWitness) on Ubuntu box?

Yes--the license fees are expensive. But the software is amazing and worth the price in my opinion. Let us know what you think after your try it.

DW Spectrum (aka NxWitness) on Ubuntu box?

Actually, I don't think the DW Spectrum client can run on a Raspberry Pi. The website says the minimum requirements are an AMD or Intel CPU. The Raspberry Pi has neither. https://support.digital-watchdog.com/kb/article/623-dw-spectrum-ipvms-desktop-client-hardware-specs/ The way DW Spectrum is...

DW Spectrum (aka NxWitness) on Ubuntu box?

Hi Lowvoltage. I've never tried to install the DW Spectrum client on a Raspberry Pi. As you probably know, DW Spectrum does not have a client for Raspian (the Raspberry Pi Foundation's OS). However, there is a client for Ubuntu (https://dwspectrum.digital-watchdog.com/download/linux) and Ubuntu...

    DD-WRT anyone?

Hi BruceWayne007, I followed the video and got everything working. So I don't know what to tell you. You've probably already seen this, but just in case... There's WireGuard documentation on the DDWRT forum: DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - WireGuard guides and documentation If you're still having...

    DD-WRT anyone?

To setup Wireguard on my DDWRT router, I followed the steps laid out in a YouTube video by DevbaseMedia. He walks through all the steps you need to do. It is pretty simple. I haven't tried OpenVPN but he has a video on that too.

DW Spectrum (aka NxWitness) on Ubuntu box?

This post explains how I've setup my ip camera system. Like many others here, I think the security concerns associated with the cameras "calling home" is best handled by physically separating them from your trusted devices using "dual NICs". That's just my opinion--if you disagree, that's...

DW Spectrum (aka NxWitness) on Ubuntu box?

I have an update for y'all! I purchased a Minisforum GK41 mini pc. The specs are in the link below, but I'll tell you the best part... this little box has two NICs and draws around 10 watts! Here's the link: Amazon.com: Mini PC Windows 10 Pro 8GB LPDDR4 128GB SSD Intel Celeron J4125 Processor...

DW Spectrum (aka NxWitness) on Ubuntu box?

Does anyone here use DW Spectrum (also known as NxWitness)? I realize that it can be considerably more expensive than Blue Iris (approx. $80 per license for each ip camera versus $60 for BI). However, I am concerned with the memory leakage issues surrounding BI. Asking users not to update...

    DD-WRT anyone?

I did something very similar. I've got an old Linksys router running DD-WRT as a wireless bridge to connect my FLAC music server to my router. Although I'm still learning a lot about networking, I am a big fan of DD-WRT.

    Anyone using VLANs?

Here's the list of supported routers for the latest version of DD-WRT. I'm not sure the exact model number of your ASUS, but there are about 15 of them.

    Anyone using VLANs?

If your old router is compatible with DD-WRT, you could flash your router with it and then set up a vlan. Then you could use iptables to set up rules on what the vlan can access.

    DD-WRT anyone?

Does anyone here run DD-WRT on their router? I'm using a Netgear r7000 that I flashed with a recent version of DD-WRT. It's running a WireGuard VPN server that allows me to access my Blue Iris box when I'm away from home. Just curious if anyone else here has gone down that route (no pun intended).

    Router recommendations

I am using a Netgear r7000 (US$150) with DD-WRT v3.0-r46177 std. DD-WRT allows you to run a WireGuard VPN server on the router which is faster than an OpenVPN server. WireGuard is super easy to setup too. I connect to my router remotely using WireGuard and then I can access my entire home...
