Looking for a camera security system.

I haven't purchased my TV yet that I'll keep upstairs, for camera monitoring. I noticed this weekend though that there's a 2018 version of the model I wanted to purchase. Considering that I only plan to use this TV for camera monitoring (no TV service; movies; or video games), should I go...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thank you. Ok, so I need a connected device on the network with port forwarding, in order to use the DDNS, once I connect to the VPN. Until then, then the router is the only thing I can connect to, on the VPN. And because I have the VPN set up, then I won't be able to use the DDNS, even if I...

Thanks. Why couldn't I connect via the DDNS address when I wasn't on the VPN?

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Ok, I was at the grocery store and I connected to their Wi-Fi. I was able to connect to my router when I was connected to the VPN, and I wasn't when I disconnected. So that validates that. However, I was unable to connect to my DDNS from the web browser, even after logging into my VPN. Why...

Also, I was able to connect using the Windows VPN client here: Community Downloads I had downloaded the wrong thing a few days ago. I had downloaded the Private Tunnel client.

Also, I tried accessing the DDNS URL on my desktop on my home network, but it doesn't connect. I also tried it on my phone. I set it up on Sunday. EDIT: I followed these steps. The ping worked. How do I check if my DDNS address is working correctly

    20180523 Firmware for DH_IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea

Thanks. I don't have the cameras installed, so that's why I don't know what version is on the cameras. Are you using ConfigTool to see the version? I read about it, but haven't installed it yet.

Ok, I added a VPN connection profile. It is a Windows client. I already had the OpenVPN server credentials configured. I configured a profile for OpenVPN Client. I uploaded the *.ovpn file. How can I access my Tivo or Ooma differently via the VPN, then I would via Wi-Fi or hardwire...

I followed the steps in this guide. I don't have any connected devices like an IP camera, on the network. Randy : OpenVPN on a Asus router * I setup the DDNS. * I set up the VPN Server. * I downloaded OpenVPN Connect to my Android phone, and connected. I didn't do any settings for VPN...

    20180523 Firmware for DH_IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea

Is there also a link to the firmware from Dahua's official website? (With logo). What version of firmware is currently on the IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E I purchased? Do I need the latest firmware to use NTSC?

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Ok, I had been researching what routers to get for the past few days. I had settled in on the Linksys WRT32x, when I noticed that Asus routers have VPN server and client setup, as well as DDNS, in their stock firmware. So then I looked at the Asus AC2900, for a router...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thanks. At some point, after my VPN is set up, do I have to have my PC directly connected to the Netgear? Or will it be sufficient to only have my NVR connected to it (after that is set up too?) Will there be some kind of port forwarding enabled on that VPN, through the Netgear router? See...

So to connect to the VPN, I download OpenVPN client on my Windows PC, then connect, and go to Whatismyip again? So I can get the Netgear WNDR3800 N600, but install Gargoyle to create credentials for each client device? How difficult of a password should I choose for each client device? As...

Ok, let's see if I understand the situation better now. * I cannot set up a openvpn server with the Arris TG862G. * I can get the Netgear WNDR3800 N600, and enable open vpn server. I log into the router and enable VPN server. How do I enable the VPN feature on my NETGEAR router using a...

Ok. I was confusing VLANs with VPN. I re-read about them. Let me try summarizing the situation. Please correct me if I'm wrong. * Can I configure a VPN with my existing Arris Interactive, L.L.C. TG862G router? Or do I have to have a new router for any VPN, because by definition, it needs...

Looking for a camera security system.

Thanks. Right now, I use one network port for my desktop; one for my Tivo; and one for my Ooma VoIP. Just to give you an idea of what my current setup is. What should I do, if the Arris cable modem and router that I have isn't good enough? Get another one, with a lot more ports? My NVR will...

Thanks. I came to this thread, because the wiki said to not forward ports, and to set up a VPN. How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) | IP Cam Talk If setting up a VPN is difficult because it requires hardware that I don't have, then what about the other precaution mentioned, about...

I read through the first page of this thread yesterday. Then I posted a question about setting up a vlan in a thread that I've had running since last year. No one responded yet. I thought I would link to the post with my question in this thread: #186 Can someone help? If possible, try to...

While there are a lot of positive reviews for CyperPower, there's also too many reviews of failures within a few months, or reviews of it catching fire. I don't see any reviews for APC catching fire. I'll go with APC, the BX1500M.

Thanks for the post and pictures. I see my mis-understanding about the 60 lb model. I had linked to one from refurbUPS, but that one was a 60lb. model. This was the APC one I linked to prior, which is the 20 something lb. model, and the one you have...

Looking for a camera security system.

I see. The NVR model I will get has the PoE integrated into it (5464-16P-4KS2). So I won't have a separate switch: NVR5416/5432/5464(-16P)-4KS2 But I think I can expect a similar power consumption to what you posted. Did you think that your APC was too big? When I saw the weight was 60lbs...

Looking for a camera security system.

Thank you. How do you know that it's running at 23.63W? Does your APC tell you that? Would the CyberPower also tell me that? I'd be having 8 cameras. EDIT: I think it tells you that, and that's what the number on the LCD represents. I just wanted confirmation.

Looking for a camera security system.

Thanks. Their runtime graph didn't show increments between 100W and 200W. I called CyberPower 's customer support, and told them what I would be using it for. I also asked them whether I was doing the power consumption calculations correctly. They agreed that I should be adding 150 + 17 W =...
