    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

This names are set in the camera, and that's where BI gets the names from. My desktop system does no show the camera names, smartPSS Lite on the laptop does. I'll conclude from this that the smartPSS I'm running is old enough that it doesn't show the names. Maybe I should switch to Lite? Is...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

Are you on win11? From what I've read that's the only one where snipping tool does video, and it has great reviews. I'm on 7, so can't use the snipping tool.

Dahua NVR resetting schedule settings for thermal camera

Anybody have a clue for what's causing this? About once a week, very approximately, the 5216-4ks2 NVR changes the record schedule for the 2 thermal camera channels from the first picture to the second picture. Happens only with the thermal camera.

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

You sure get those videos up faster than I do. I'm still in the learning curve, having switched to OBS studio to make the latest one. Why does your smartPSS display the preset names, and mine only the numbers? A setting in the NVR? I can't find a smartPSS setting for it.

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

Another example were I've found UI3 a lot easier to use than smartPSS, centered mostly on PTZ repositioning. I have a road running down a hill from my driveway, across a bridge, then back up the hill to a stop sign. I can track a car the full length, first with a standard camera looking down...

    The official "WTF" thread

These stories are fun. Long ago, for those who remember that far back, I was doing field support for Datapoint and a big customer with a Diablo drive had a problem that their system didn't work. (Diablo cartridge drives were very high end at that time). It sounded like a disc problem. Going...

    The official "WTF" thread

One organization I worked for required everybody in every job description to work the customer support telephone line occasionally. As an engineer in the early days of PCs, it was emotional hell. For fixing "my computer doesn't work", it got down to: Is it plugged in? Did you turn it on? Is...

Everything we're being fed about everything is a bunch of $hit, starting with lies from the government, then spun in some political direction depending on which outlet is doing the reporting. Just this morning, the liberal outlets are reporting that the June CPI numbers are bad and work against...

    is POE++ a reliable option?

It would help if you had included a link so we could find some tech info on this device. From matching the picture: This is a 3 port ethernet switch that needs to be powered. It is not a POE device. Yes, you can use it with an NVR by plugging its "1" network cable into a switch that the...

Waterproof socket end from annke fcd600

As far as finding a new pigtail for the camera goes, even if you find one, getting the old pigtail out of the camera case without destroying anything is pretty difficult. The punchdown jack is probably the most practical way to save the camera. There's also the possibility of cleaning up the...

    Mystery part (SOLVED)

I should have followed up on this so thanks for the reminder. I immediately traveled and personally reinstalled this spillover valve on Hoover Dam, and am pleased to announce that Lake Mead is once again filling. Coincidentally, I have another part that on the surface looks identical, still...

Why can't I purchase Blue Iris

IMO, it's simply a neglected portion of the website. It really looks bad to have the "New..Blue Iris 5 Sale" banner, and when you click on it, it's sold out.

    Mystery part (SOLVED)

A longshot. Does anybody recognize this part or what it fell off of? The red plastic head is a hair over an inch in diameter. The only markings are "on" and "off" on the head for CW and CCW rotation. It had some oil on it, so between that and how it's built, it must be an on/off valve for...

I've never been there to know first hand, but this strikes me as the type of deceptive propaganda I picture happens in Russia. The tax laws changes have nothing whatsoever to do with how social security tax is calculated. It's just a lowering of taxable income from any source, one of which may...

And dated July 4, nothing in this statement is changed by the BBB. Even though Oregon doesn't supposedly tax SS income, it can result in more tax because the SS income is included in AGI then subtracted out later. Oregon has a number of "tax cliffs", not ever adjusted for inflation of course...

I'm moving toward full panic mode over what's happening all around us. When I was a kid it seems like the only big corruption was in the mafia and large democrat run cities (that's redundant I realize). Since then it has spread to corporations, colleges, school systems, banks, and just about...

It's so big and covers so many things that there won't be any normal people who know more than a little bit about it.
