HikVision DS-1280ZJ-DM21 correct way for a watertight installation

Cam is Turret Annke I9BH, aka Hikvision NCD800. Pigtail on caliper comes in at 0.84 inch. By way of reference, T5442T pigtail is +/- 0.50 inch. Both being soft plastic, reading is slightly different each time you measure. Let's say that the cam on my "test bench" is how it will install on eaves...

HikVision DS-1280ZJ-DM21 correct way for a watertight installation

I can only use up so much of the stuff for cams, so a roll or two each of 33 and 228 for me. The 35 is handy for color coding. Those glands for the boxes are going to be hard to figure out though, getting a size that the pigtail can go though, and seals up the pigtail cable.

HikVision DS-1280ZJ-DM21 correct way for a watertight installation

Thanks. If the box were mounted on a horizontal surface, such as an eaves soffit, is it reasonable to use a side hole, provide a drip loop, and caulk as above? On a PFA130 box with the gasket in the center, and a center hole and slot to accommodate the pigtail cord, do you suggest adding the...

HikVision DS-1280ZJ-DM21 correct way for a watertight installation

@TonyR Thanks for the definitive description on how to make properly watertight connections. What’s a good way to handle having a cable coming in/out of a junction box from a side hole? For example: I have an Annke NCD800/ Hikvision camera that I’ll mount on an eaves soffit, since there does not...

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

I've seen both flat as well as corrugated yellow plastic gas line. In what is now my existing condtions, I had ended up with 3/4" pipe because I was not specific enough - I told my electrical sub to run me two conduits, and had the trenching guy ditch-witch the trench. The run is about 325'...

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

@fergenheimer I take your point - about what the next person makes of the situation when they don't have all the initial information - houses and sites outlive people. That is why there are color assignments, norms, and customary practices. Context is important too. An urban situation might...

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

The construction supervisor for the infrastructure build-out for the neighborhood told me they are supposed to go down 12" for the connection to the house. Service install is a different phase of the overall project, involves different people, and it remains to be seen what they actually do.

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

I may have an opportunity to bury a conduit/sleeve for future ethernet and other runs in my yard. Getting wired up for internet service, and they will trench down around twelve inches to bury their line. If I happen to have a 100-foot section of 1.5 inch plastic pipe at hand, I might just be...

best, long lasting micro SD card in 2021?

Perhaps it's "risk sharing". Given a failure rate, the cost of warranty for that duration would make the product pricier than most people would be willing to pay. Five years warranty signals it is a decent product, and still priced attractively. Will do nicely for my new cams.

Blue Iris Windows 11 or Windows Server?

A fact to add to this discussion, based on personal experience. In 2011 I purchased from Newegg a Windows 7 Pro OEM license, and installed it on a new build. Eventually this build aged out and I set it aside. In mid-2022 I built a new PC. I had read in a forum that an OEM Windows license...

5441F-AS-E2 (aka Boobie cam) - Front door camera - 2.8 mm or 3.6 mm?

Working on increasing the number of cameras, as well as types of cameras (as many of us are doing these days). Ready for a two-lens 5441F-AS-E2 (aka Boobie cam) front door camera, which will also serve as a face-level Identify camera as people walk up six steps to reach the front door six feet...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

Thanks for the suggestion on the HP 9610 PoE+ switch. I ordered it on ebay, just a different listing @$65. Your commentary on the value proposition got me thinking - my current and only PoE switch is not enterprise class, is six times the HP 9610 listing price, is half the power budget, and 16...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

The idea of running fiber is growing on me. Looks like a media converter is needed at either end, which is doable. Have to figure out how to run the physical cable in the existing empty 3/4" conduit already in the ground. Line of sight not feasible. An enterprise class switch is interesting...

What amount of power does a PoE port need to be able to supply, to connect a camera with a 500-foot ethernet cable run?
