This works when sent directly to the camera! My cameras are POE connected to the NVR, however, and I can only open a temporary connection via the camera tab and webpage link since they are on a separate network. If you find a way to do this to the NVR that would be amazing.

That’s the problem, it never connects so all those screens are greyed out. It’s possible the nvr doesn’t support it but it has the rs-485 terminals. I was hoping someone would know if it wasn’t supported

My understanding is the dip switches allow you to differentiate between multiple alarm boxes on the same cable but there is no corresponding dip switch on the NVR so any switch setting should work. My green light only blinks once , presumably Since it was not able to connect. Thanks for the ideas.

Your idea worked! thanks. Plugging another camera into that port let me find the ip address. That also seems to "wake up" the NVR as it then auto populated "Port5" and set the protocol to ONVIF. ONVIF has never worked for me so I used the "customized" protocol to get to the camera working.

Device search does show my Dahua poe cameras

It’s not a POE camera but its plugged into one of the poe capable ports in the nvr so it’s on the 10.1.1.* network. I have other cameras plugged into those ports and never have been able to see them with Device search, I add them manually.

Well I finally found the magic to get it to connect! I connected the camera with an ethernet cable and it finally connected with the "private" protocol. Seems crazy. It is still working now that I've disconnected the cable and its connected to WiFi. Thanks for all your ideas.

Dahua has a special “private” protocol for connecting its own cameras to the NVR which presumably passes more detailed information from the camera since they are made by the same company. If I can’t get the NVR to connect the the camera natively then I’ll try RSTP or ONVIF.

My Dahua NVR5208-8p-4k2se natively connected my older IP2m Amcrest with the “private” protocol but the NVR doesn’t see new IP4M I just bought. Any ideas how to connect it?
